Wow….just wow. Sixth Sin was one twisted, dark and wild ride of deceit, corruption, manipulation and betrayal, but with a love story all wrapped up in one story. This book follows Dominic McCallum on his quest to find Alexandra Romanov, the lone survivor of a horrific crime. When he meets Angel Smith in a bar and she agrees to come forward as Alexandra, it sets a ball in motion that neither of them are really prepared for.
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and the twists and turns this story took were endless. I had no idea where the story was going to lead or what to expect even up until the very end. Cora Kenborn is a master storyteller and I cannot wait to read more of her work in the future. Both narrators did a fantastic job with the narration of this story. The emotion they brought forth with their voices and their words truly enhanced the story line from beginning to end and I would highly recommend them both.
Sixth Sin
By: Cora Kenborn
Narrated by: Mollie Stark, Tanner DeBruyne
Cora Kenborn is one of the authors that pushes all the right buttons for me. She is dark, she is suspenseful, and always has that romance thread that I love. Sixth Sin hits the ball right out of the park. I am a fan of the story of Anastasia, and Kenborn’s retelling of this is spine tingling suspense and a never ending love. Dominic needs a story, and finding the missing Alexandra Romanov would bring him back into the graces of Hollywood,as well as help him out financially. Angel is a fallen actress and this role of a lifetime, playing Romanov would be the push she needs. But can this couple, who cannot stand each other really pull off the greatest hoax of all time? Yes, it says enemies to lovers, but this love is so deep, and their story so strangely beautiful, it is hard to fathom they were ever enemies. Secrets and deception is so prevalent, and the twists and turns in this story so unpredictable yet totally believable. The supporting cast of Luciano, Violet and Dominic’s mother all add depth and complexity to this dark book. I couldn’t stop listening! It’s amazing and you will definitely want to listen to it.
A book like this needs a good cast and the choices of Mollie Stark and Tanner DeBruyne were fantastic. Stark plays the intricate role of Angel. Angel has more than she realizes going on in that head and Stark handles each scene spot on! I loved her. Dominic is also extremely complex. DeBruyne understands each facet of his personality and brings out the perfect inflections and nuances to give Dominic the edginess and loving person he is. This is the perfect team for this story.

Sixth Sin by Cora Kenborn is a dark Hollywood mafia romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Mollie Stark and Tanner DeBruyne.
The book does come with a caution/warning: “Please be aware this book contains dark themes and sensitive subject matter that are essential to the storyline but may bother some readers.”
This is the third book of Cora’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The book had a lot of twists and turns that kept me hooked until the very end. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Angel and Dominic. I really enjoyed getting Angel, Dominic, and Luciano’s points of view. It really brought the story to life.
Mollie and Tanner did an amazing job on the narration. They both really know how to bring a story to life. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, mafia romances, romantic suspense, or psychological thrillers.

Sixth Sin

Wow, this book not only blew me away, it blew my mind too! Cora Kenborn is a gifted author with a brilliant mind and that brilliance is reflected in this novel. The story, a retelling of Anastasia in Cora Kenborn style, grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it the entire book, this is one of those books that once you pick up you can not put down because you need to know what happens next. The characters are complex and well developed, they are easy to relate to and connect with, so much so they get in your head and you start to feel for them. Dominic McCallum did not have an easy life, when he was younger his Mother had stars in her eyes and wanted to make it big in Hollywood, unfortunately that did not work out for her, it actually ruined her leaving Dominic not only fending for himself but for his Mother too. His life forever changes after crossing the wrong person, Luciano, an underworld crime boss. An older Dominic is in the media business he has plans to take down those responsible for breaking his mother, only it backfires and almost ruins him. He has a plan to bring Alexandra Romanov to life, the Romanov family was massacred years ago, but her body was not discovered, she is believed to be alive and there is a reward for her return. Dominic has a plan and that include a waitress in Chula Vista. Angel Smith an inspiring actress was not exactly on board with Dominic’s plan but her friend Violet helped with making it happen. Cora Kenborn masterminded an intricate plot, there is plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, some thrilling and suspenseful moments, mystery, twists and turns, just went you think you have something figured out she pulls the rug out from under you. In addition to all that we have an amazing enemies to lovers romance, but were they really ever enemies. Cora Kenborn, thank you for another awesome story and emotional rollercoaster ride, I love, love, loved that mind-blowing ending and how you placed all the pieces together, wow, just wow! Loved Nonny Moose too!
And for the wonderful narration, Mollie Star and Tanner DeBruyne are the perfect cast to bring these characters and their story to life. They did an awesome job portraying the characters, humanizing them, giving each their own distinct voice and personality. They had a complete understanding of the roles they played, sounding believable and just as I pictured each character to sound. Tanner DeBruyne nailed the role as Dominic, Mollie Star did the same for Angel/Alexandria. Both were great playing the secondary roles as well. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all of the characters emotions and projected them into their performance. Both are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen, I am looking forward to hearing more of your work soon.

Cora’s writing is dark and twisted with the perfect amount of romance. Starlet is the perfect twisted retelling of the story of “Anastasia”. Starlet is main reason Cora is one of my top 5 authors. This book is one that you can read multiple times and learn somthing you didn’t catch the first time around. Take a chance and go read Starlet! You won’t be disappointed, I promise.
I loved this book. There was magic in every word and it totally fit the fairy tale vibe of this series. Dominic and Angel were the perfect leading characters. Rhe plot was so twisted and full of secrets I was kept guessing until the very last page. I will definitely be recommending this book to everyone!
This came incredibly close to being a DNF for me. It just took far too long to get into the actual meat of the story and pick up pace. In fact I must have skim read/totally skipped at least a third of this book, and probably getting on for more like 40% of it. And I didn’t really miss anything important. It was only cat killing curiosity and a couple of 3 star reviews mentioning the great ending, that had me bothering to read the last third. And that last third was amazing.
Brutal honesty says that this book needed a lot trimming from it, in order to improve the pace. I also couldn’t give it 3 stars because, whilst the ending was jam-packed action with more twisty turns than a world-class roller coaster ride, it was a little overdone. Plus the whole “Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, he walks into mine. That was just far too big a coincidence/stretch of the imagination.
Each character was somehow connected to everyone else, and some of those connections were either too convenient, a little unbelievable or were just plain unnecessary (view spoiler). It was like a game of Six Degree’s of Separation and a visual showing the links would look somewhat like a spiders web. Definitely a case of where less would have been more.
The overall writing and story flow was good, with me able to follow and understand what was happening. Dialogue feels realistic and descriptions are nicely detailed. However the pace is just too slow, the story is too dragged out and for a long time reading this felt like hard work.
I have read the author previously and really enjoyed that book but this one simply didn’t offer me the ability to bond with the characters and believe in their emotions. Others have loved it so whilst it’s clearly not for me, you may well enjoy it.
Diving head first in The Sinister Fairy Tales Collection, this retelling of Anastasia is my first read in the series and it was better than I had anticipated. It had all the great elements that made it a classic with an added dark romance, murder and other triggering topics.
This new to me author kept me engaged with the characters and instant page turner storyline. Alongside plot twists and turns throughout had me on the edge of my seat and the tense drama that unfolded got me going oh shit a few times.
Though there are praises for this novel, there were notable failings with this retelling that could’ve been edited or tweaked to win my complete favor. First example, the pace and length. The long never ending plot dragged on and on, and there were times during the course of my read I found myself checking to see if I even made a dent. The slow pace made me feel like I wasn’t really going anywhere and that put a damper in my reading experience. Lastly, though more of a personal preference, I wished the author included a tad bit more detail about Alexandra Romanov family and her relationship with them
After everything, I would still highly encourage readers to pick this up and take a peek at what this author has to offer with this classic retelling of Anastasia.
