I didn’t read the Grisha Trilogy before Six of Crows, mostly because I didn’t knew I should have read it first and I regretted not reading it but I couldn’t put Six of Crows down not even for a second so I didn’t wait for the Grisha Trilogy to arrive (yes, I ordered it while I was 50 pages in SoC), so there were some parts about the Grisha universe that I found confusing which was entirely my fault. Anyway, I did eventually understand those details, probably by the 40%-50% mark.
Even though I struggled with some world details, I loved these characters! Their stories, their voices, their thoughts and needs and wants… EVERYTHING. At first I was a little worried about the multi POVs however every character had a very distinct voice and the change of perspectives just flowed seamless. Leigh Bardugo is a queen when it comes to writing a story with multi POVs, honestly I’m very impressed with how she managed to make every character stand out. I was hooked from the first POV!
Six of Crows is addictive, it got to the point that I had dreams about the plot, the characters and their world. The plot is unique with lots of secrets, corruption, chess moves, the characters are dark, captivating, complex and lovable, with rich backstories that will make you root for this crew of criminals. Six of Crows is an epic action-packed story with adventure, criminals, romance and magic. The hype is real! Highly recommended.
One of the best books I have read!!
My teenage daughter is obsessed with this series, so I decided to dig in myself. It took me a little while to get into it—I don’t read a lot of fantasy because I have trouble settling into new worlds. But then… wow. BIG wow. This novel is simply stunning in its originality, complexity and character development. One of those books that makes me think I should quit writing. Leigh Bardugo is a certified genius. The end.
I had it on my TBR list for quite some time. BUT when I finally picked it up “bam” it just blew me away. The number of five star ratings given to by readers says it all. Still I want to write a few words. This book devoured me instead. Fiction, fantasy, thriller, action, drama, romance, whatever you expect from a good book, this one is sure to deliver. I want to congratulate Leigh Bardugo on writing this book, you have done a marvelous job. I have not read such an amazing book for quite some time. This is a novel you will not forget for years to come. Super highly recommended.
I absolutely loved this book. I read this around two years after it was first released because I started hearing a lot about it. I had not read any of Bardugo’s past works so I had no idea what I was expecting. Nevertheless, I was blown away. The author constantly built up this messed up, corrupt society in my head while also keeping a sense of morality in it. This book and its sequel is set in the world known as the Grishaverse but it isn’t necessary to read the previous books set in the world to understand it, so it really does not matter whether you read the shadow and bone trilogy or the six of crows duology first (shadow and bone is the series that came first that was set in the grishaverse.) If someone were to ask me to summarize six of crows, I would say it is the perfect combination of mystery, action, and thrilling suspense. There is romance and a bunch of ships (that you cant help but love), but the plot and vibe of the story is not overwhelmed by it and it does not become something for the author to clutch onto if the plot goes awry. I also enjoyed how carefully constructed the characters are. You can tell how much time and thought Bardugo put into creating her characters and their origins. She really created this chaotic harmony between the crew and did an amazing job at establishing relationships and broken ties. Enjoy!
It was really a good book. I find almost all fantasy novels the same but this was different.
It had magic but also interesting heist they attempt.
Totally awesome book!! Second fav book boyfriend Kaz Brekker!!!
A heist adventure with great characters set in a beautiful world!
Six of Crows is book one in the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Burdago. It takes you back to the Grishaverse world. No need to have read the Grishaverse trilogy before reading this since its not the same characters.
I really loved all the new main characters and the differents point of view we follow for this books.
I loved it to death. Read at least three times and recomend to anyone who likes a good fantasy, heist story, or a little gun violence.
There are few ways to truly describe how I feel about six. I think I have to start and just say Kaz Brekker. Flawless. The world of Ketterdam is something out of a fantasy lovers dream. The characters are unique and fun, caring and loathsome all at the same time. The plot…..oh the plot. It really is something that keeps you going a 100 pages at a time without any breaks. Couldn’t recommend this enough. Have a blast.
This book really kept my interest from beginning to end I love it.
Love:
Character development

Word Choice
This is my favorite book. I reread it like people reread HP
Just amazing, a book i would read over and over again.
Warning: This review MAY contain spoilers.
Well, what can I say about this transcendental book that hasn’t already been voiced? Not much I know, but allow me to unload the mountain of feels that I have garnered from this book. This is my second time reading this book and the effect on me is not much changed from the first time. I first read this book a few months after it was first released and fell head over heels in love with everything about this book. Rereading the book has only strengthened my obsession with this amazing story. This book slammed into me full force, knocked me off my axis, and gut-kicked me for good measure. An assault I loved every moment of.
I fell in love with Bardugo’s Grishaverse when I read the Shadow and Bone series. Then I read this and was so in awe of this world. I loved being able to see another part of this incredible world that she has created. There are many elements from the Shadow and Bone trilogy included in Six of Crows but we see a different view, a different way of life, and a few different countries within the Grishaverse. Bardugo is so skilled in differentiating each culture and creating a perfect image of them in the readers’ heads. She accounts for political viewpoints, weather, traditions, day to day life, dress, and how these different cultures view the rest of the world. The world building is truly brilliant.
You can tell how much Bardugo has grown as an author with the plot of this story. Simply put, it is damn incredible. Each plot point is intricately woven into the overall story to create a masterpiece that is truly grand. The way that the pieces of the story fit so immaculately makes my little fangirl heart cheer like mad. It’s just so impressive. The twists and reveals in the story are ones that you won’t expect and they all have such a big impact.
Equally impressive are the characters. Never in my life have I read about a more deliciously malicious yet morally gray set of characters, and I love each and every one! I really loved the progression of each character’s backstory throughout the novel and how it affects their actions in the present. I love how fierce each of these characters is, yet vulnerable at the same time. What makes them vulnerable also makes them fierce. These characters all have tragic pasts that haunt them and/or addictions and inner demons to fight. They haven’t had the best hand dealt to them, but they have used this to make them stronger. To make them survivors. While I love each personal journey, I also love the camaraderie and relationships that are formed.
The romantic aspects of this book are very subtle. There are definite feelings between certain characters but it isn’t told so much in a physical way. It is told in the concise words of the characters and their actions. I really found the budding romance between certain characters incredibly beautiful. I certainly have a soft spot for tortured souls finding love and this book is a menagerie for that trope.
Overall, this is a book that I will always cherish. I will come back to this story again and again for these characters that have imprinted on my soul, this harsh world that is displayed so vividly, and a story that will always stick with me. If you have not experienced Bardugo’s Grishaverse then you are missing out on a truly exceptional world. These stories are soul-shattering and it is a hurt that you will beg for more of.
I’m not feeling well, but let’s see if I can get through this review!
I picked up Six of Crows by recommendation. I’ve seen the covers everywhere, and like all forms of the book lover’s peer pressure, I gave in and snagged my audible copy from amazon. Crows are badass, right?
Here’s my review.
I’m giving this five stars because the story is well-written and well-plotted. I could tell Leigh put much thought into her characters and the story line. Each character truly had their own uniqueness, enjoyably bold personalities, and the storyline was cunning, clever, AND a tad predictable (not a flaw, but instead, felt more like a gamble).
But, believe it or not, I didn’t enjoy the book.
While it was excellent writing and probably an intriguing story for most, I didn’t like the story at all. This is a personal preference, and in no way will it have any sway on my review nor completely avoiding the author’s other books altogether. This is a solid novel, and well worth the money. Leigh Bardugo is a gifted author and I do plan to try out more of her books, but not the next in this series.
Here’s what turned me off about the story:
With the audio version, each character had their own audio actor. While the actors are insanely talented, almost tailored to fit the character, it threw me off at each character swap. It took me a good few minutes just to concentrate on what was happening in the story because of this. It also prevented me from truly connecting with a character. My fault – I should have looked to make sure it was one voice before purchasing, because I don’t like several actors for one book. It’s just too much, like a sensory overload. However, if this is your thing then go for it. The actors are really gifted.
I also found myself not enjoying the fantasy aspect of it.
Hold your horses – there’s nothing wrong with what Six of Crow has, but I tend to be more on the side of a lot of power and magic wielders than just the few this book provides. I did like that there was at least one power wielder as a main lead, but it wasn’t enough for this fantasy-loving freak. The story felt like a fantasy version of Oliver Twist, and while Oliver Twist is a legend, I never was a fan of it either. Again, this is personal preference.
All in all, the book is full of action. Whenever I found myself getting a tad bored of the book, Leigh seemed to just ‘know’ and threw in a good action scene or drama of some sort. There are many twists the author was clever enough to include, not plot twists, but schemes. That was neat! Leigh has a gifted mind for such things, and I admit, I wouldn’t have thought of using half the stuff she had her characters do to get their job done.
One of the best books I’ve ever read. I could not put it down. So much action and anticipation. Made my eyes burn because I could not look away.
The characters in this book are phenomenal and you never see what’s coming
This was certainly an interesting read and I would give it four out of five stars! Here’s why:
The beginning pulled me in quickly, and by the end of the rooftop scene, I was completely hooked. The characters felt dynamic, it was fast-paced, and it was certainly gritty. I was totally prepared for this grand adventure and this near-impossible heist. However, the pacing slowed dramatically after the set up as we were introduced to the backstories of each character. The information you learn from the backstories is vital to understanding the characters, but I felt like it brought the action to a stop at some points. Eventually, the action picked back up, and I was drawn in once more!
I loved the variety when it came to the characters. They all have such different backgrounds and struggles, yet here they are working towards this cause. I thought the way she used the various perspectives to redirect your attention was brilliant! There were more twists and turns than a maze, and I think Bardugo is certainly every bit as cunning and clever a Kaz to have pulled this off so beautifully!
The end left me begging for more! I have to find out what happens now, and I can’t believe I didn’t see this coming. I will definitely be reading the next book!
Many of you, are already read this book. Weeell I always be the last person who read famous books First. I loved the cover. I do not know why, but for me its important. Then I wanted to look inside! Annnddd…This story are awesome. I started to enjoy it immediately, and did not want it to be finished. Characters written so great, as the whole plot. What will be next? Now I need to read all author’s books. Defo MustRead book series! 5/5
