I love all of Leigh Bardugo’s work, but the Six of Crows is undoubtedly my favourite. Barduo wrote the Dregs in a way that made them feel like family, not just to each other, but to us. A diverse crew of fun and fearsome characters that I only wish I could spend more time with. I highly recommend picking up Leigh Bardugos books.
Hands down one of my favorite series, with Leigh Bardugo being one of the best authors out there.
My fav book for now. I love characters so much!! It’s funny!! I was amazed by it!
I could not get enough of this book; I had trouble putting it down for even a minute. The characters are charming, the tension is perfect, you’re hooked from the first page.
Fantastic series. I wish there were more in this series. I could not put it down.
Six of Crows is a funny, action-packed book. I loved all the characters, but I’ve got to say that Kaz is the one that has definitely captured my attention the most. He’a a boy that lost his brother, always wear gloved because he can’t bear the memories human touch brings him, and a mastermind of a criminal gang. In Six of Crows, there is definitely something playing off between him and Inej, and I find that so unbelievably sweet because we see him opening up, we see him show love and kindness underneath his tough exterior, and we hear his thoughts about Inej, about how much he cares for her, but doesn’t tell her. All the characters in this book have their own flair, and I love each and every single one of them (except some which aren’t meant to be liked), but Kaz is just so interesting and the fantastic plot brings all of these incredible people together in one amazing adventure.
How do I even begin to write a review for the perfection that is Six of Crows?
If you’re into YA fantasy, you’ve probably heard of the name Kaz Brekker. It’s hard not to. There is so much hype surrounding that name and Six of Crows. But now that I’ve finally read the book, I definitely understand why.
Kaz is unlike any character I’ve ever read. He is greedy, selfish, and cruel when he wants to be. But despite that, he is also clever and strong. Kaz did not have an easy childhood. Certain events made him who he is — a boy bent on revenge. I know this book is not only about Kaz but to me, he was the most fascinating character.
This book is written in multiple POVs and at first, it was certainly confusing. I think this is probably the most number of POVs I’ve read in a book. But once I got used to it, it was easy. Everything smoothly transitioned to get the plot moving.
Having six different main characters (Kaz, Inej, Nina, Matthias, Jesper, Wylan) doesn’t mean having to choose who to love. Honestly, I liked all of them. They had different personalities that you can’t help but love.

I only discovered this book, and its sequel (Crooked Kingdom), relatively recently. Both are fantastic, and I highly recommend them. They feature an ensemble cast that is simply fascinating, filled with richly developed characters who I feel like I know.
I’ve heard nothing but great things about Bardugo’s writing, so I skipped this one to the top of my TBR pile. So glad I did! Six of Crows sucked me in, starting with a bang and delivering nonstop action throughout. I didn’t love Kaz, but I actually enjoyed reading about a not-noblebright MC. He was still intriguing, and Bardugo stayed true to his character even when it let the reader down a little. That’s good writing right there, folks.
The Barrel is a fantastically fleshed-out melting pot of sin, with ruthless gangs battling for territory. Above them sits the corrupt and power-hungry merchant class, whose motivations are left largely open-ended in this first installment. Instead, we dive deep into the slums with Kaz and his cohorts, getting a taste of the brutal world that formed them before taking a heart-pumping heist ride into enemy territory with a whole lot going wrong along the way.
Inej was the most interesting to me, given her dark history, but I enjoyed every last one of the characters. Jesper’s sarcasm, Wylan’s hidden strength, Nina and Mathias’ smoldering tension… All of it kept the pages turning, and I highly recommend the second half of this duology as well, Crooked Kingdom, even if I wasn’t thrilled with the ending…
OMG I really did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. But at the same time I’m not at the 5 stars hype mode as everyone else and here is my reason:
When I first start reading it it just thrust me into the world and I was confused for some time until I’m able to get what is going on and I don’t like being confused!!!!!!
But you can still read this book before the Grisha trilogy because I also have not read it (yet), and it was an enjoyable read!!!!!
I SHIP KAZ AND INEJ AND I NEED THEM TO BE CANON DO YOU HEAR ME LEIGH BARDUGO!!!!!!
I loved the atmosphere and getting to know each of the six main characters. I honestly did not care for the heist and the reason may be because the book is character driven more than plot driven but I’m excited to see what happens next and terrified.
This is really just going to be a rave, go read this. I was really REALLY hesitant, it took two friends recommending it for me to finally give it a shot and I’m so happy I did it because this book delivered much more than I was hoping for. I think it’s hard to impress when walking in with so many negative assumptions already. The first Leigh Bardugo book I had the ahem, pleasure, of reading was Ninth House. Now, I don’t think Ninth House was horrible but let’s just say Leigh Bardugo didn’t make it to the top of my list of author who’s works I want to devour. But! This is EXACTLY why I give authors a second and sometimes third chance. Now this didn’t win me over at the synopsis, it didn’t win me over with introductions or fantastic action scenes, no, no, no…Bardugo can write a sub plot. A sub plot so deep it eventually turns into the breaking point of the main plot and you have no idea WHICH sub plot the whole time. I felt so much anticipation while reading this but due to it’s YA audience, there’s enough semblance of hope with each character’s narrative and I loved it. It was an amazing change of pace considering it holds real feelings of loss and devastation but gives you a bitter sweet feeling of rebirth as you move on. Bardugo keeps you flipping the pages, wondering where loyalties lie, who’s honest, or if any of them are. In a real band of misfits style. I really enjoyed this story for it’s fast pace and ability to creep in with darkness but maintaining a bright undertone that keeps you coming back for more.
I could see this being a Sword and Sorcery retake of Oceans Eleven, but instead of stealing jewels they need to kidnap a scientist who was producing a deadly drug. This style of plot feels morally wrong unless much humor is involved, which I can’t say there was. The story is built on extensive background stories of the characters and the cities built, but struggles to fill it out with enough sentiment. Although I did find the entire tale interesting as a whole with the six friends who were all morally grey and had their own agendas at heart. People came together when there was a lot of money at stake, but that could also lead to backstabbing and double-crossing. It was thrilling to read in places and the subtle hint of magic possessed by one type of people made them stand out. My favourite part to read was about Matthias and Nina, of how they met and how they bickered as they tried to find their way back to each other and the love that they once shared.
This book was making, and was constantly turning the page to see what would happen next. The characters are really my favorite part, because they were built up so perfectly! This book is truly a masterpiece, and the second on (crooked kingdom) is even better!!
LITERALLY THE BEST BOOK I’VE EVER READ! The whole concept is unique!!
I thought this book had many amazing characters and unexpected plot twists!Crooked Kingdom , the sequel is also amazing
*Actual rating: 4.5*
Let’s start with Kaz frickin’ BREKKER! I absolutely love how smart and strategic he is. How street smart he is blows my not so street smart mind haha. I LOVE IT! I need more. I also can’t believe Kaz and his band of misfits are all around my age, and are looking to make so much money. The things they can do makes me wish I could do all of that while I’m still young.
We get a hate to love romance and a friend to love romance, which I find to be really cool! When the book is written in one perspective, you might not notice the romance for other characters. Bardugo wrote in multiple perspectives. We get to read the romance in the two people it involves, and the characters that get to watch it unfold. So watching the romance play out for multiple people added a special spark to it for me.
Inej and Kaz. I love them. They broke my heart. I love how their romance isn’t central for them. It’s an extra little something on the side. It’s very realistic, which I don’t think we get enough of in this genre. Nina and her drüskelle. I *really* like them. I think Bardugo did a great job with them. And near the end of the book, with all those events… you know how I feel if you’ve read the book…
I love how each character is good at something and not everything. They are all needed for their specific skills and they make up for where the others lack. It’s truly a group effort and cannot be done as a one man show. I really liked seeing characters that weren’t overpowered and had weaknesses or lack of skill. I also love how each character has their own dreams that drives them, and a past that still haunts, but leads them. They are more than just the main heist and story. They are each their own individual person and it added a realistic touch.
Six of crows is a great book. All about a group of criminals, my favourite character has to be Inej the wraith. A wonderful dark fantasy book
One of my favorites so far, and I mean the whole series. All the quirks and personalities of the characters are so complex and well thought, with such different backstories to each and everyone of them.
This whole series is one of the few I can say I loved from beginning to end.
One of my all time favorites. I love this world and the characters!
I love everything about the Grishaverse and Kaz Brekker is KING.
