This is a new author for me, and I absolutely loved her writing technique. She really managed to take me on an emotional rollercoaster along with the main female character, Mikala. This is a wonderful story of hope and the courage to continue to move forward after being completely betrayed by the person you love. A wonderful read!

Six Months is the story of four friends who throughout their life’s starting in college form a family of sorts. Their family worked as such Mikala Cummings = lover for all of them, Rena Henderson = nurtured all of them, Jake Cardona =protected all of them and David Jacobson= the child of the other three, that never grew up. Mikala and David got married and the group still worked the same until David made a mistake that caused the death of their daughter. Mikala needs David but he does the unthinkable and commits suicide. It takes two years before Mikala can start to put her life together and just one night to destroy it again. Will she have the strength this time to recover? I have not done this in a long time but I had to read this book twice to make sure I had not missed something the first time. Grab your tissues because you will need them. David, Mikala, Jake and Rena had a unique friendship that could be seen as a family. All throughout college they were each others buffers that got them through college and all of life’s drama but Jake and Mikala were really close. David knew if he wanted a relationship with Mikala, he had to accept her close friendship with Jake as well. The four bridged a friendship that covered over twenty years and when tragedy strikes it will take this close friendship to get them through all of the lies, deception and betrayals that are uncovered before true healing comes.

This is one of those books that leave you emotionally drained after reading. The author brings a heartbreaking story dealing with a mother’s worst nightmares with the loss of a child. This is a story of grief and pain and showing in detail the healing process in vivid detail. She takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride reading Mikala’s heart wrenching pain and finding peace and love in the end. It’s a highly emotional story with the author pulling you in , tearing at your heartstrings and feeling all her emotions along the way. It’s a story that sticks with you long after you finish reading. Well done Mona Sedrak.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
This was a tough one one; not funny or suspenseful but a really good book. Tragic loss has been expressed in such a way that this is not especially a tearjerker but a journey from loss to healing. Losing a spouse or older loved one is heartbreaking but to bury your child taken from you is gut wrenching. Mikala has buried her five year old daughter Molly killed in a car accident with her father. She is inconsolable and her husband David has isolated himself with his grief and blame. She has her two close friends Jake and Rena from college days 20 years ago that have stuck by her side. Sometimes you find you really didn’t know someone until after they die and the secrets slowly start to spill out. You look back and realize the signs were there but you chose not to see them. You never forget but you find a way back and survive to begin again. Very well written and worthy of a read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book

This is a heartbreaking story about Mikala losing her daughter Molly in a accident and then the loss of her husband due to his own hands. She has suffered both loss and betrayal and how she works through those things and comes out on the other side to find romance.

You Need A Few Tissues With This Lovely Book
I received this book from the author for an honest review, I was not required to give a favorable review. But with the first few chapters you feel like you are living each of the feelings of the characters of this story. Make sure you have a tissue box close because you will need it. Mikala met the people who would make up her adult life her first year in college. She met Jake first “Superman”, her best friend Rana “funny Red Head” and then she met the man she would marry Daniel. The formed a family and finished college together. Jake, Daniel & Mikala became lawyers and Rana the nurse and each had a part of their little family. Daniel & Mikala married had a beautiful little girl, Molly “Butterfly” and Jake and Rana were her godparents. She was going to be starting kindergarten when her life was cut short in an automobile accident. And Mikala had to live her life again, and her husband was never the same, beside injury he couldn’t forgive himself for his part of the accident. Mikala also loss Dan on the anniversary of the death of Molly three years later. She had to learn to just breath again, but between Jake, Rana and Lester her father in law they will help her survive. This story tells the strength of friendship, love, loss and forgiving. It is a beautiful read.
First, I want to thank Mona Sedrak, Wild Rose Press Inc, and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.
Mona Sedrak’s breathtaking cover captured my interest in this book originally in Six Months. The book’s cover has a sweet little girl with laughing as a butterfly sits on her nose. Flowers surround her and, in the background, you see a silhouette of a couple. I am a huge butterfly fan and this cover just melted my heart. Kudos to the graphic designer. When I did read the synopsis of the book I knew it was a must read book-I was right!
I feel that I must warn readers ahead of time that this book deals with a loss of a child at a young age. It also deals with the tremendous grief afterword’s and how each individual deals with it. If this is a trigger for you then this may not be a good book for you.
This book is dedicated to Mona’s husband Samy. He has always supported her and believed in her even when she lost faith in herself.
WOW! Mona had me hooked on page one and feeling all sorts of emotions. Warning you will need tissues! If you are a parent or like me a proud Auntie you will want to be holding them tight after reading this book. It was incredibly powerful.
You could tell that this book was very near and dear to Mona’s heart. You could tell by the way Mikala’s character and storyline was so passionately portrayed. It was a beautiful storyline that totally tugged on my heart strings. So many times I wanted to reach out and hug her for so many reasons.
I am a huge fan of butterflies for so many reasons. Not only are they on the front cover but they are mentioned in the book. The reader gets a little bit of education about butterflies which I thought was a cool idea. However, they are symbolism for Molly as well. I thought that was beautiful.
This tale is a trying one on the reader. Dealing with horrific loss is something no one wants to face but many of us sadly do. Micky deals with one major loss after another and her trials are beautifully portrayed here.
One can gain strength just by reading how Micky is able to battle through that which could have destroyed her. The depth of the relationship between Jake and Micky is what carries this book.
A moving book that shows the power of the human spirit and the power of forgiveness.
For me, something concrete in terms of negative consequences for Leslie would have made this a better read. Further, a bit more fleshing out of Jake and Micky would have been nice too.
Still a powerful book that takes on loss without any holds barred and shows the power of one person to deal with and survive.
Warning: Harsh Language
Disclaimer: I received a copy from the author in the hopes I’d review it.

Mona Sedrak has crafted a captivating, beautiful and poignant story that pulls at the heart strings and gives readers a rollercoaster ride of emotion and incredible passion. In this dramatic piece of fiction, the premise is original and extraordinary. While the main character, Mikala, struggles to heal and regain her life, I was moved to tears on many occasions. It felt so real to me that I cried, smiled and felt the struggle and pain myself. This is due to the exemplary descriptive writing style of author Mona Sedrak. I was impressed by how she wrote the dialogue between the characters. The characters are well developed and fleshed out with personalities that readers will love and relate to.
For readers looking for a journey filled with beauty, drama and emotion, Six Months is the book for you. You will smile, cry, and root for Mikala as she suffers and goes through more losses and grief than any person should ever have to endure. Then we see her inspiring recovery. From the very first chapter of Six Months, I was hooked, fully engaged and didn’t want to put the book down. Towards the end, I was strongly desiring to see that Mikala would get the gratifying happy ending she so deserved. Life can be difficult and many people go through these very things. Six Months is rich in detail and filled with emotion, hope and inspiration. This book does not let the reader down. It is a worthy read written by an insightful writer with a unique lyrical voice. This is the best book that I have read in a long time.

This book starts off as a story about the lives of Mikala, Molly, and David. Mikala and David are married, Molly is their daughter, and David is the somewhat-spoiled heir-apparent to his father’s law firm, but he’s not really happy or fulfilled at work. Jake and Rena are their best friends. They all met on the first day of law school at Yale. Jake Cardona has the drive and motivation to succeed, but has never crossed the line with Mikala, preferring to stay friends, instead of risking more. Plus, she fell in love with David, and so she was off-limits. Rena is a strong supporting friend who goes above and beyond when Mikala really needs her.
After the tragic loss of her daughter, Molly, in a car accident, she is dealt an especially difficult hand when her husband deals with his grief by drinking and sinking into a depression. He’s not present for Mikala anymore, and both partners are dealing with their grief separately and alone. In her grief, she lashes out at Jake, and asks him to leave her alone. He figures she needs space, and he does as she requests. They spend some time apart as they each experience the healing process, and as they come to accept the loss.
The characters are all fully fleshed out, and their motivations are clearly defined. There are so many emotions that feel very real in this book. The mark of a talented author is the way they can make the reader experience and feel the things that the main characters are going through. This author succeeds in spades! The title is slightly misleading, because the book spans 2.5 years, but is broken up into 6-month chunks of time, and follows the growth and the struggles of our two main protagonists. There are some beautiful scenes in this book. The closing chapters are especially beautiful, with the way Jake and Mikala both become vulnerable to each other and to the ones who are gone from their lives.
This was a very emotional read, have a box of tissues handy. You get all the feels. Love happiness sadness guilt betrayal… and more emotional and tragedies that a mother and wife ever should have to deal with.
Received this ARC and am leaving an honest review.
There are emotional roller coasters and then there are gut wrenching stories that make you question everything you’ve ever known and felt. This book takes you on journey that starts at what I feel would be the most desolate point in a person’s life, the death of a child. The journey continues with more losses, loss of a spouse, loss of one’s self and one’s will to live ending with how a small belief can bring you a total roundabout and makes one rediscover life.
A very good if a very heavy read.

This book touched my heart In so many ways. I had a great loss someone I loved very much at age 13, and I’m now 56 I still cry about that loss. She was my heart my soul. The characters in this book come alive they will reach out and touch your heart. Tears will be shed, you will want to wrap your protective arms around Mikala and help her cope with it all. This is a great read it is the first book I have read by this author it’s seldom you find a book like this that takes you from smiles to tears…
Thank You NetGalley and The world rose press for a ARC of this book in excerpt my honest review.
The first time I read anything by her but I really enjoyed it. I think you might too if you give it a chance
The unthinkable happens to Mikala and David – the loss of their child in a car accident. They drift apart, each into their own pit of grief. Then David commits suicide, unable to deal with his secrets and his part in Molly’s death. Mikala retreats further, trying to push away everyone who loves her. Her long-time friend Jake stays for a while, then retreats when she sends him away. Her friend Rena and David’s father never give up on her, pushing her back to Jake. It took so long for Mikala to let go of the past, but she was headed for a wonderful future when she did. This was not an easy book to read – the story drew me in, but the emotions are just overwhelming at times. It was well-written, with wonderfully developed characters, and I enjoyed the journey.

Six months is a story of love, loss and learning to live. It was a difficult read because of the content. Mikala takes one devastating blow after the other. She has to learn to do more than breathe or she will not survive. She has Jake and Rena, her college friends turned family, to help love her through the heartache, but will it be enough?
Though this book is outside of my norm, I was drawn in by the synopsis. I could relate to some of Mikala’s hurts and was interested in the author’s choices of working through the storm. The story is written in dual pov, which I thought worked well for the book. I enjoyed Molly, though each scene with her brought a sadness with it.
I felt like there were a few places that I felt could have been a little more detailed for a clearer picture, like David. I still don’t feel as though I know him well though we are told that he is the “child” of the family.
Overall, this is a tissue soaking, heart hurting, hopeful read about loving every precious moment with those we hold dear because we are not promised tomorrow, was a 4 star book for me.
There is adult language and things that may be triggers for people (though not detailed explicitly). There is kissng, but no sex scenes.
I received a free copy of this book from Booksprout. My opinions are my own, given freely.
Six months is an emotional read. It will pull you in it kept my instrest. It was well written. I truly enjoyed reading this story.
