In the sequel to Six Degrees of Lust, F.B.I. team leader Samuel Shaughnessy and bar manager Machlan O’Bannon are exploring a new phase in their non-relationship. The intention is to take it slowly but power plays are still their favorite activity, and it isn’t long before lines begin blurring. After ending their friends with benefits agreement no rules are left in place to guide them, and soon … enough the only thing that’s clear is that neither man is fighting hard enough to reestablish the boundaries.
Their particular situations haven’t improved in the three months since their first encounter. Sam is still focused on his immediate family issues, and everything indicates Mac will have to go to war with his own family before he can reclaim his freedom. The last thing they need is additional complications.
But when the opening of a night club brings Mac to New York City and a break in the Leviticus investigation leads Sam to Houston, they discover how closely their worlds have been connected from the very beginning. Hiding from the life-altering collision is not an option. Will they take the easier road and go their separate ways, or will they come to terms with their past and take a chance on each other?

Suspense and steam 😉
This mystery/romance/suspense continuation did not disappoint. I love Mac and Sam. The secondary characters are fun too. I expect they’ll all be back for the next book. I’m hoping Logan and the Houston sheriff hook up in the next book 😉 I feel this book had more of the mystery and story than just what was going on between Sam and Mac. I think I liked this one better than the first. Eep! Great story!
This is the second book in the series, and it cannot be read alone. There’s way to many things that would be confusing. This books picks up where the first book left off. Sam and Mac are still working on their new ‘relationship’, and there’s still a serial killer targeting the gay community.
It was nice getting to see more of all of the characters, and to get to know everyone even better. Just like the first book, this one packs a lot into every page. Also, just like the first book, this one ends in a cliffhanger as well. It makes me wanna pull my hair because I want a resolution as much as they do!
This book was as well written as the first one, and I definitely recommend it.

Holy crap part 2!! Book two is just as thrilling and gut clenching as book one! Donovan maintains the tension, both romantic and suspense, throughout the book and ends on yet another cliffhanger. Except this time I don’t have a book three to jump right into and it’s going to kill me waiting!!!
Book two picks up about ten seconds after book one ends. Mac and Sam have made a breakthrough in their relationship but there is yet to be a real breakthrough in the serial killer case. More puzzle pieces come together making the title of this book perfect. But the tension of the suspense story is still that continually tightening rubber band in my gut.
Mac and Sam’s story has some very interesting twists and turns, some of which I expected, others I didn’t. The relationship crisis moments make you hold your breath but are ultimately satisfying, though still in HFN range as there are some big personal hurdles ahead to be dealt with. I didn’t know there was yet another book to come so the closer I got to 90% without significant movement the more nervous I became. By 95% I realized that the story arc isn’t done and I’d be anxiously awaiting a book three damnit!
I was personally pleased to see that some of my guesses from book one re the suspense story were on the nose and am pretty sure others will be confirmed in book three. Still lots of great red herrings (or clues) scattered in this book as well. Donovan writes a hell of a suspense story and great relationships. Not just romantic relationships either. The friendships in this book are wonderfully done as well. And I am hoping we’ve also seen the groundwork laid for some future romantic relationships to be explored.
The suspense story works along a great arc, though man I wish it moved faster because I’m dying to get to the end of it! There are some interesting developments that tie some things from book one in. I’m intrigued as to how things will spin out into the third book as the FBI seems to be closing in on the killer. I can’t wait to read that book. Strongly recommend.

Wow! This a great continuation from the first story. There were so many twists and turns to this story. I loved the “Love story” between Sam and Mac. Loved all the twist with the side characters, how they all seem to no one another without knowing they do. I kept thinking I had the serial killer figured out but yeah, I was wrong again! Taylor Donovan did an awesome job with character and story development. Fantastic job!!

Let me start by saying.. THIS IS NOT A STANDALONE SERIES… please read Six Degrees of Lust before reading this book!!
This series just gets better and better. I love the complexity of Sam and Mac.
There are lot of things that become clearer in this book, but I was still on the edge of my seat throughout the entire read!
Character lives become more entangled and the plot thickens!!
This book is well written and twist and turns will have any who dunnit fan panting for more!!
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!!!
Promises
What an amazing series! I don’t want to wait for the next book and this one was heavy with emotion. There were (and still are) so many moments of anger and frustration with some of the characters but there were also lots of moments that made me proud for them, teary, happy, hopeful and full of love.
“Well played, kitten… well played.” Love the byplay between Mac and Sam, so sexy and smart. It will never be a dull moment with them. BTW Sam’s mom is a hoot and I love her. You couldn’t ask for a better mom. “Because I love you with all my heart, and the idea of not having you in my life turns my stomach like nothing else.” These two squeezed my heart. I adore them and their thoughtful and incredible gifts to each other. They leave me in awe of their love. I really enjoyed the connections that are blooming in this series but there are still unanswered questions. Hopefully we will find the answers soon.
