A rare chance to know Jesus as his first disciples knew him.
What would it be like to journey back to the first century and sit at the feet of Rabbi Jesus as one of his Jewish disciples? How would your understanding of the gospel have been shaped by the customs, beliefs, and traditions of the Jewish culture in which you lived?
Sitting at the Feet of Rabbi Jesus takes you on a fascinating tour … fascinating tour of the Jewish world of Jesus, offering inspirational insights that can transform your faith. Ann Spangler and Lois Tverberg paint powerful scenes from Jesus’ ministry, immersing you in the prayers, feasts, history, culture, and customs that shaped Jesus and those who followed him.
You will hear the parables as they must have sounded to first-century Jews, powerful and surprising. You will join the conversations that were already going on among the rabbis of his day. This book is such a help to Christians in understanding the Bible (both Old and New Testaments). It enables the reader to grasp a deeper meaning from the things that Jesus taught, as well as to correct the assumptions many (like me) have made about the culture in which Jesus lived. I highly recommend both this book and Walking in the Dust of Rabbi Jesus, the book that follows it (although I read them out of order).
This book was fantastic for gaining an understanding of the life and culture in which Jesus lived. I learned much about the parables and scriptures that Jesus spoke and the relevance of why He used them. I enjoyed this book so much that I also purchased another Tverberg book with a similar topic.
This book makes sense of the various Bible topics discussed within the culture of the time in which the Bible was written. Often one has that A-HA moment of new understanding.
great information. a must read.
Fabulous Read! I learned SO MUCH about how understanding the culture and language of Jesus’ time is often the key in understanding nuances in the things that He said. I will be reading EVERYTHING by this author!
I love the perspective this book provides, and gained knowledge that wasn’t available to me before. It was so informative that I now visit the website daily.
A great book to read before any study of any of the New Testament Gospels. It will increase your understanding & enjoyment 100%. You don’t have to be studying one of the NT Gospels to enjoy this book, but this is why I read this book, and it certainly did help me. Just sayin’.
Liked this book. Got a lot of insights to Jesus’ life and times.
I haven’t finished reading this book yet, but I am really enjoying it. It gives wonderful insights into discipleship in Jesus’ time and how it applies to life today.
It helped me develop a greater understanding of my faith.
This book offers a deeper understanding of the connections between the Old and New Testaments. It explains more eloquently than I have ever read how Jesus is the fulfillment of the Scriptures. The significance of the references that Jesus uses to establish who he is by leaning into the Old Testament is now understandable, as is the shock and outrage of the religious establishment. They were so unprepared to believe in him because of all the agendas of their time. I am going to read this again to fully absorb all that it explains. This truly enriched my understanding of Jesus time, his culture, religion and the significance of his claims.
This book has an eye-opening examination of Christianity and its teaching through the historical context in which it was formed. We too often forget that Jesus was not a Baptist or aMethodist, but was an observant, practicing, first-century Jew, and as such, wore tzitzit and phylacteries, and recited the Shema and Aliyah daily.
This book looks into the religious practices, prayers and rites that Jesus and His disciples performed in their daily life, and are often included in the gospels, but are overlooked and ignored due to our ignorance of historical context. This book belongs on the shelf of every Christian who desires to understand the Bible.
This is a great read.
If you want to take steps closer to Christ, read Lois Tverberg. This book is a jewel among other treasures!
A culturally informative .
I have always wondered what it would be like to live in Jesus’s time. Now I have a much better idea.
I like this book because it explained much about Jesus’ live and words. It was relevant in understanding the life of the Jewish people during the time that he was with us.
Tremendous insight into the hidden gems of the Bible. I was fascinated by the details of Jesus’ life and teaching as a rabbi.
I loved her simple explanation of the life of Jesus and first century beliefs of Judaism. It certainly puts a clearer picture of the Bible.
This was an eye opening explanation of what Jewish life and thought was like in biblical times. The authors ability to convey deep meamings with ordinary language is truly inspiring.
