SITA- WARRIOR OF MITHILA:-
So I just recently finished reading an amazing novel SITA- WARRIOR OF MITHILA written by Amish. The novel is very well written keeping all the mythological and traditional aspects in mind. However at the beginning the reader do gets confused whether the given information regarding Lady Sita is correct or not. As a reader I have witnessed many situations in the novel which were totally different from the actual story. For instance King Janak and his wife Sunaina finding their future child Sita, being protected by a vulture from a pack of wolves , Sita being a warrior princess , Prince Ram shooting an arrow from Pinaka without breaking it at Sita’s swayamvar , Prince Ram shooting the eye of fish with the legendary bow Pinaka at swayamvar, mention of Samichi as sita’s acquaintance , mention of technologies and town planning methods which were practically impossible to implement in that era. However on the other hand the novel is really interesting and gripping. Actually mythology is a subject which does not appear interesting or appealing to a large section of Indian people especially to it’s youth. As a teenager I took interest in reading this novel because the author has used some of his fictional creativity to mould the actual story so that Indian youth can take interest in their country’s great mythological history.
Description of Sita as a warrior princess is suggestive of all qualities of today’s woman. Sita being pragmatic , brave , independent , logical and intelligent woman gives inspiration to all those women who are not aware of their inner strength or capabilities. The narrative structure gives description of a society in which parents are proud to conceive a daughter , they support her in all aspects , become her backbone. Role of King Janak and his wife Sunaina in their adopted daughter’s life holds a great importance. Character of Prince Ram is suggestive of today’s society’s expectations from it’s men folk. Description of Ram’s simplicity and his respect for rules is truly commendable. Sita’s feelings for Ram has been beautifully delivered. There are various turning points in the story which keeps reader’s interest in it. For instance Sita being chosen as a Vishnu , rivalry between Malayputras and Vayuputras , story of Jatayu’s past , Raavan participating in Sita’s swayamvar , Sita having strong feelings for Ram , Ram using the daivi astra , Lakshman marrying Sita’s sister Urmila , Samichi’s betrayal , Sita attacked by Lankan princess Shurpanakha and so on.
The novel has been successful in delivering a crystal clear image of of all temples and places of Sapt Sindhu. Stories of Lord Rudra (previous Mahadev) and Lord Parshu Ram(previous Vishnu) are source of interest in the story. Strained relations between Guru Vishwamitra and Guru Vashishtha adds thrill in the story. In the midst of all the ‘Vishnu’ chaos; Ram and Sita’s blooming relationship is a source of relief
On the other hand the novel has also described a series of contrasting images like:- Wealth and Poverty, Cowardice and Bravery , Friendship and Rivalry , Love and Hatred. These images gives an idea about the psychological reasoning of the characters.
The author has also given a vivid description of sorrowful events in novel. For instance Death of Sunaina (Sita’s mother) , Radhika loosing her love (Bharat) , Banishment of Ram , Sita , Lakshman and so on.
Concluding my review I can say that SITA- WARRIOR OF MITHILA is an amazing novel. It is a true piece of thrill and adventure. It can be further said that it is a marvelous piece of mythological fiction.
