As the summer ends, friendship begins… When single mom Joy Lee abandoned her old life to take a job at a lakeside resort, she found something that her family’s wealth and influence could never buy: peace of mind. Not easy to come by for the once-burned divorcée who keeps everyone at a distance. But when her new friend, Maris, dares her to take a chance with the drive-in’s charismatic new … charismatic new owner, everything changes for Joy and her young son.
A difficult childhood has left Maris Kennedy with definite priorities. Her job running Summer’s End, the camp store and café, comes first. Always. Nothing could ever make her risk that hard-won security–especially not her free-spirited colleague. But the more she encourages Joy to open herself up to new experiences, the more Maris begins to wonder what she, too, might be missing.
Learning how to trust will bring Joy and Maris together. And soon they form a friendship that leaves them as close as sisters–and open to love where they least expect it…in Summer’s End.

I love that Sisters of Summer’s End centers around Maris and Joy’s growing friendship, plus has the added bonus of two love stories. Royce is perfect for Joy and Jack, and he easily fits in with the tight-knit group of friends in this fun and flirty series. Ever since meeting Maris and Daron in Cooper’s Charm, I was curious to see what would happen between them, and I love how their story turned out.
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary Advance Reader Copy from NetGalley.
I love a book that has beginnings, and endings, and surprises somewhere in the middle. This book has hurts, and loves, and healings, and happiness, and sadness, and oh my look out for the karma. It is funny and quirky and even sometimes sad and painful. You can identify with a character whether you are single, married, divorced, parenting, a wannabe parent, rich, poor, outdoorsy, or sophisticated. Most of all it is a feel good, feel good all over again, and feel good one more time book as Ms. Foster ties all the threads up in a nice little bow. I never wanted the book to end.
*I received a free copy of Sisters of Summer’s End. This has in not way influenced my review which is honest and unbiased.*
Sisters of Summer’s End was a solid story, with romance, friendship, family we choose, and two couples who deserved a HEA. I enjoyed getting to know Joy and Maris, as they got to know each other. Foster did well with Jack, too – as it’s not always children in romances have a real role, and are well-rounded characters.
I found the ending to be a little ‘too easy’ but I still had a good time with this novel.
This is the second book at this lovely RV resort. The book has two stories going on with the main focus on Joy, Royce, and her 5 year old son Jack. Joy works as the planner for the park and she puts her life’s focus on ensuring Jack has a happy home life filled with unconditional love. This was something she didn’t get while growing up. Royce is the new owner of the drive in movie theater and is working on rebuilding his life, new house, and repairing the theater. These two don’t have time for romance especially when Jack is involved and the only men he’s known in his life are the ones that work at the RV resort. Then there is Maris and Darin that share this undeniable attraction. Maris fights him at every turn because her loyalty is to herself and her business. She doesn’t have time for a younger playboy. Darin is frustrated because he really has true feelings for her and she just cuts him down. This was a wonderful journey about two woman finding true friendship that grows to the equivalent of a sister. They both fight their issues together to hopefully get past the past and move forward. The men have their work cut out for themselves and Royce also has to get past his issues as well. The book had romance, some hot scenes, yet it is a lovely heartwarming story that will have you laughing out loud, smiling, and maybe even leak out a few tears. Well at least I did. I reviewed an advance copy and my review is solely my option.
I was lucky enough to be able to read it and I can tell you that I’m so glad I could! Loved Cooper’s Charm and this is the next in the series! Following Joy and Maris’ friendship was fantastic, and Daron is such a nut! They were just small parts of the first book, so it’s great that they got their own time! Jack, Joy’s little boy is so adorable and brought me to tears and laughter as well! You will not be disappointed with this book! Lori Foster never disappoints!
SISTERS OF SUMMER’S END
Sisters of Summer’s End is the second book in the Summer Resort series. Like most of Lori Foster’s books, this one does not disappoint. Lori has the ability to totally enmesh her readers into the lives of her characters. Joy Lee is a single mother of 5 year old Jack, divorced and comes from a privileged background. But when her parents disowned her, a very pregnant Joy found the job of Recreation Director at Cooper’s Charm RV resort park. Since then, her life has centered around Jack and her job, leaving no time for dating.
Royce Nakirk, the new owner of the drive-in, is very handsome and catches Joy’s eye. Upon meeting each other, the attraction was instantaneous, though neither had the time for a relationship.
This story is filled with true, lasting friendships, humor, and romance. I received this ARC from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
HEA all around
Sisters of Summers End is the second book in Lori Foster’s RV vacation setting of Cooper’s Charm. While there are crossovers of the characters this book reads well as a stand alone story.
I loved this book for so many different reasons. The friendships built between Joy and Maris, two women from very different backgrounds, the family of choice the employees of Cooper Charm made, adorable Jake, and the 2 romances between Joy and Royce and Maris and Daron. It was satisfying to watch as the 4 main characters evolved into stronger multi faceted versions of themselves. This book was a joy to read from the very first page to the final sentence of the book.
I received an advance reader copy via Netgalley.
I adored this book! Joy and Maris come from such different backgrounds and neither ever allowed friendships into their lives for their own reasons. Watching these two women take a chance on a friendship and seeing it flourish into a real sisterhood was so great to see.
Joy is a single mom and it has always been just her and Jack. When Royce enters the picture, it really gets good. These two aren’t looking for anything serious but can they keep it uncomplicated? Then there is Maris and Daron. Maris isn’t looking for a relationship with anyone much less a young flirt like Daron. Daron has had his eye on Maris for awhile now and he has a big job on his hands if he is going to break down her walls.
I love that this book has the friendship aspect between Joy and Maris, then the separate romances of Maris and Daron and also Joy and Royce. The characters are well written and the dialogue is spot on.
I received an ARC from netgalley, and this is my honest review.
I LOVE THIS BOOK! I loved it so much I was not ready for it to end, so I immediately had to go back a read Cooper’s Charm again. Connecting stories are my favorite stories, I get very attached to the characters and love to see them show up in new stories and Sister’s does not disappoint. It is a great story of showing family does not always mean blood born, family is people who love and care for one another. I highly recommend this series and hope maybe another resort book might sneak in there. I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
What a fun book. I loved that we didn’t get just one HEA or one relationship in this book-we got four! Royce has recently purchased the local movie theater with the sole purpose of making it a success and staying free of burdens. Joy is the recreational director at Cooper’s Charm campground and the single mother of adorable Jack. Joy wants to be a great mother to Jack, a successful director and has no time for men or romance. Maris runs the store, Summer’s End, at Cooper’s Charm. Maris provides coffee, cookies and guards her heart closely. Daron works as a groundskeeper at Cooper’s Charm who is carefree, charming and determined to get Maris’ attention. This story gives us wonderful, playful, heart-felt romances, endearing friendships (both male and female), family drama and a boy’s youthful exuberance. There is nothing not to like about this book—way to go, Lori Foster!!
I absolutely love the Summer Resorts series by Lori Foster. This story focuses on Joy and Royce as the primary couple and Maris and Daron as the secondary couple. The fact that there are two romantic relationships is wonderful enough in a shorter length novel, but the friendships that are focused on, the building of unconventional family units out of friends, building support systems that see you through good times and hard times, that was beautiful to read. These characters all have different backgrounds and histories, yet they manage to become a family for each other, and an extended family that Joy’s son, Jack, knows he can depend on.
“Sisters of Summer’s End” by Lori Foster is book two of her Summer Resort series.
In book one, we met Joy Lee (recreation director) and Maris Kennedy (camp store owner) and in book two, not only do they become the best of friends, they also find their happily-ever-afters. Though, neither of the women claim they have time when it comes to matters of the heart.
For Joy, she is a single mom whose main focus is on her son. The attraction she feels when she meets the new owner of the drive-in, Royce Nakirk, renders her speechless.
Royce, on the other hand, is on board with pursuing their attraction, but it can’t be more than that.
Maris is bold enough to tell Joy to follow her heart, but unable to take her own advice when it comes to handyman, Daron Hardy. Daron, who’s waited for her for a long time, is patient and eager to help her change her mind.
In “Sisters of Summer’s End”, Ms. Foster brings us a contemporary romance with a touch of women’s fiction.
I received an ARC of Sisters of Summer’s End from NetGalley and this is my honest review. I don’t like to read reviews that tell all about the story. To learn that read the synopsis or download a sample, then if you liked what you read, buy the book. To me a review is: (response to each item is after the —–)
(1) how well it was written, —– great story line.
(2) How it flows from introduction to ending, —– was easy to follow the story line and characters.
(3) If it grabs your attention early, so that you cannot put it down, —– definitely did.
(4) if it has too many or too few romantic areas or is just right, —— for me, perfect.
(5) if it has enough mystery or suspense to make you read to the last work plus want more, —— I personally would have like a little more mystery and suspense, but for this story line, it was adequate.
(6) how well it was edited, such as any glaring grammatical errors, —— no comment as it was ARC.
This book was one of the better books that Ms. Foster has written and grabbed my attention after the first few chapters, so that I did not want to put it down. It had enough action, but for me, I would have like a little more. The grammar cannot be reviewed as this was an ARC. I give it 5* and definitely do recommend this book.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I loved visiting Cooper’s Charm again. Joy Lee has been building a life with her son Jack determined to make it on her own. Little did she know meeting Royce Nakirk the new owner of the drive-in would change both of their lives for the better. We also got a litter of Maria and Daron’s story so double the pleasure! Lori Foster doesn’t disappoint. I can’t wait for more from this series!!
Joy Lee and Maris Kennedy both work at “Copper’s Charm” RV park. Both come from vastly different childhoods and yet here at the “Summer’s End” camp store they forge a bond of sisterhood from the heart and not of blood.
Joy is a divorced mother of five year old Jack and she walked away from her family and their money because she had too in order to have Jack. He is her whole world and while she now has to pinch pennies and budget she and Jack are very happy living and working in the RV park. Joy is the recreation director. She is smart, beautiful, put together and well a wonderful mom. Jack is shy around new people and he is an amazing 5 year old who has the soul of an artist. Everyone who works at the park loves him and watches out for him. Joy has worked hard to forge a life for herself and for her son at the expense of finding love, she just doesn’t have time as she is a mom first and foremost.
Maris Kennedy runs the camp store and she has for as long as Joy has known her. Maris keeps busy and she rarely ever stops. She is also pinching pennies and longs to buy a house of her own one day. She works to hard as she runs from memories of her past. Her childhood wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either, but it is what made her who she is. She would do anything for her friends and offers meals, coffee, and cookies to the staff and campers alike. She takes pride in her work but she also leaves no room for love.
Maris and Joy have known each other for years but neither really took the time to chat. Once they start they both realize what they were missing out on. They become like sisters, supporting each other, advising each other, sharing secrets and learning to trust in each other and in men.
This story was very heartwarming and had some familiar faces from “Cooper’s Charm”. Jack is a wonderful character and he steals the show well that is unless Chaos is around and then well, they both steal the show. Chaos is adorable and aptly named!
This book is a love story but it’s not just a love story between two men and two women. It’s also about the love and friendship two sisters, not born of the same blood, share as the learn to try new experiences and let love into their lives. It’s a sweet heart warming story that at time was humorous and at times a little sad. Family doesn’t have to be blood, it’s what we make of it and this story manages to capture that while capturing your heart. I hope we get so see more stories from Cooper’s Charm RV park.
Sisters of Summer’s End is a wonderful, heartwarming and sweet story. This was definitely a love story between Joy and Royce but it was so much more. The friendship that develops between Joy and Maris added so much to this book. Joy is a single mother to little Jack, she’s had a rough few years and has some trust issues. Maris’ past was difficult and she has built a new life in Cooper’s Charm. But now six years later, their working relationship has changed to a true friendship, a sisterhood. And with this new found friendship, Maris gives Joy the push she needs to give Royce, the hot new owner of the drive-in next door, a chance. I loved watching these two trying to figure out what they really wanted. Both were so against, for different reasons, anything permanent. But as their story progresses you see deeper feelings also progressing and having little Jack and puppy Chaos involved was just too sweet.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book, not just the awesome love story, but also the sense of family and true friendship. Joy’s past returns and creates a bit of a bump, but this too is resolved beautifully. Another wonderful story by Lori Foster.
I received an ARC of Sisters of Summer’s End from Netgalley, and this is my honest review.
