The grass is always greener on your sister’s side of the fence… like Lucas, the annoying playboy cop who claims he hangs around for Harper’s fresh-baked cookies.
Spending half her life in school hasn’t prepared Dr. Stacey Bloom for her most daunting challenge—motherhood. She didn’t inherit the nurturing gene like Harper and is in deep denial that a baby is coming. Worse, her mother will be horrified to learn that Stacey’s husband plans to be a stay-at-home dad…assuming Stacey can first find the courage to tell Mom she’s already six months pregnant.
Separately they may be a mess, but together Harper and Stacey can survive anything—their indomitable mother, overwhelming maternity stores and ex’s weddings. Sisters Like Us is a delightful look at sisters, mothers and daughters in today’s fast-paced world, told with Susan Mallery’s trademark warmth and humor.

I enjoyed all the characters in this book. The women and the men (except, of course, the obvious very flawed ones, who had no desire to change). Even loved the dogs. This book was just a good story. The women were not like anyone I have ever known, so it was interesting to see their fears and how they were overcoming them.
This series is Susan Mallery’s best so far!
I loved this book. The relationship between the sisters was very loving and I liked how they would unite against their mother.
Sisters Like Us by Susan Mallery
Harper Szymanski and Stacey Bloom are the two sisters in this book.
Harper has a teenage daughter Becca that she is raising. There are lots of issues with them due to her home business and with Becca being a teenager. Stacey is married to Kit and is pregnant and is afraid that she isn’t bonding with baby. She is a super smart scientist, and with Kit you see her more human side. I really liked the way the two sisters interacted with each other was very happy with the way the book was written. I was so happy to see that Harper and Lucas got together. They fit together so well. I thought it was a wonderful book and think that anyone looking for a book that shows true reactions among sisters and moms and daughter this is a must read book.
I enjoyed the variety of characters and the relationship between them. It was full humor and romance.
It WAS easy to read. Ihad just finished a biography for a book club, and I wanted a fun book.
I really enjoyed it
“Sister Like Us” is the 4th book in the Mischief Bay Series. This book can be read alone, without any knowledge of the other 3 books. Of course, being a huge fan of Susan Mallery’s work, I would recommend that you read all of her books.
I usually do not write much about the plots of the book in my reviews, since you can readily find that out from many sources. I write about my feelings toward the book.
I think the family relationships were written excellent. There are so many levels of dealing with one’s family. You love them, they drive you crazy, you would lay down your life for them, and other times – you want to plan how to make them disappear. This book shows all those emotions. Love is the root of all people’s connections, your “real” family and the people that you make your family.
This book deals with so many issues. Families that are broken, but can be healed by others that want to step in and make a family. Adults that seem so self-assured on the outside that are filled with doubt, guilt and indecision. Teenagers that want to fit in and have no idea how that is supposed to happen. Words of parents still haunting characters at the adult stage of their lives.
Susan usually has sex scenes described in detail in her romance books. This book being a “Women’s Fiction” has a different model. While sex is alluded to, the description is kept to a minimum. I personally like that. I have a great imagination and do not necessarily need everything spelled out for me.
I have read many of Susan Mallery’s books and I believe “Sisters Like Us” is my favorite by far. It has her wonderful gift of creating characters that are so life-like, lovable and flawed. The plots drew me in immediately. She brings so much happiness and sadness into the world of her story. It cared so much about the characters and what happens to them. I read in all the spare time I could manage, to find out the full story and was not disappointed in a totally believable ending.
Susan Mallery books are the best. I’ve read everything she has written and have never been disappointed. Now I have to wait for the next one.
I enjoyed reading this
Sometimes being sisters can mean always having someone you can go to even when you are different, but are you? Sisters Harper Symanski and Dr. Stacey Bloom have taken different paths in adult life but still remain close sisters. Harper, dealing with the shock of divorce is trying to build her own business and still have time for her teenage daughter. Stacey now pregnant is trying to come to terms with preferring to go back to work and allow her husband to stay home and take care of the baby. Along with a dominating mother, teen angst, divorce issues, and with help from great friends and family the sisters succeed in being who they were meant to be.
This was such a fun and quirky book full of fun and quirky characters. Harper is a divorced mom who is having a crazy time trying to make her business work even if her clients are taking up too much of her time, especially Lucas. Oh, Lucas… Then there is the other sister, Dr. Stacy who is hiding her pregnancy from her mother. She doesn’t think she has the maternal instinct but her husband has decided to be the stay-at-home dad. Oh joy, wait until mom finds out! Mom…Bunny…she is a trip (and a half). She is the overbearing mom who thinks she knows it all and her way is the only way and that is an old fashioned way and oh boy is she is a hoot! This is full of quirky characters and witty banter and was so much fun the pages turned so fast it was over way too soon. Definitely a recommended read.
5 SISTERS LIKE US STARS!! Another beautiful story with all the feels from crying, to laughing, mad and smiling. Susan Mallery is a master with her words to give us beautiful characters, family issues, love and touching stories, here is another one. I highly recommend this book, you can’t go wrong with this authors books. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
ARC – I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
Harper was at the end of her rope.
Always trying to find ways to make ends meet was exhausting.
Don’t forget to add a disappointing ex + a teenager daughter + a disapproving mother.
What else can go wrong ?
Stacey is having a baby, but she still have not told her mother.
I think that she is still a little bit in denial.
She still have not bought any baby things. Not even a crib.
I loved Kit. He was such an understating husband.
He loved Stacey as she was. Neurosis and all.
This was such a sweet story about family.
I have to be honest. I total envied Harper’s craft room.
I so wished I had her kind of a craft room.
However, like Harper, I don’t think that I would have that kind of time to be that committed as well.
Loved the storytelling + the characters!
I always look forward to this authors books because I know that she will take me on an emotional journey. In this new book she delves into the complexities of family relationships; mothers and daughters, daughters and fathers, sisters, and those who may come with them. I loved the relationships between all the different characters and how each problem that popped up could be looked at in many ways. As I read the tears flowed, the laughter echoed, and in the end the smiles came. It showed me that no matter how hard life can be you just need to stop, look at the situation, and take a chance. I can’t wait for the authors next words so that I can take another emotional ride and come out the end with things a little bit clearer.
Favorite Quotes:
It’s like Beetlejuice. If you say her name too many times, she’ll rise up with horrific powers and do unspeakable things. I’m being cautious.
Stacey met the gaze of the pregnant dog. The animal looked calm and kind of sweet, in a very large, I could eat you in a hot minute kind of way.
His shirt was barely wrinkled, he was rested and tanned, while she was a hot mess. No, she thought, thinking of her mom jeans and stained T-shirt. Even her messiness wasn’t the least bit hot. She was a cold mess.
You need a date for your ex’s wedding. Showing up by yourself will make you feel awful… What about Lucas? He’s very handsome and I’m sure he knows how to behave. You could ask him to bring his gun and shoot the groom… Or the bride. Your choice.
My Review:
I adored this book start to finish, I’ve read a handful of Susan Mallery books and after each one, I declare it to be my favorite. Deftly written with bold strokes of levity, thoughtful and insightful observations, witty banter, endearing characters, and clever use of animals for the uptight characters to bare their private fears with, this was an easy read that squeezed my heart while it also made me smile. The plot was relevant and realistic, the storyline was well-crafted and entertaining, and the writing was crisp, yet thoughtful and sensitive. The characters were wildly flawed, singularly quirky, and fascinating. I favored Lucas most of all and had a mad crush on him until he pulled a dick move and broke my heart.
