“McCarthy perfectly weaves together suspense, dangers, and an intriguing storyline that will compel readers from start to finish…an enthralling and energetic writing style that is sure to enrapture any reader.” –The Red-headed Book Lover
Charlene Butler, a.k.a. Charlie, is beautiful, independent, and a successful pub owner in downtown Montreal, but prefers not to discuss her past, or the main … discuss her past, or the main reason for her success. When she anonymously receives strange letters and the police don’t show an interest in the case, she is convinced by Frank, her best friend, to hire a private investigator to help her solve the mystery. However, PI Simm seems to have a few secrets of his own.
Charlie and Simm join forces when the harassment escalates from letters to explicit threats. Their investigation leads them from the safety of her home, through Montreal’s underworld, to organized crime in Dublin, Ireland. What they discover contradicts Charlie’s most fundamental beliefs in herself and ultimately makes her doubt her own character.

First book I read from this author, liked it so much I read the other two. I’m from Montreal so I related really well. The plot has plenty of twists and I read it in no time.
Page turner, could not put down until I finished it.
A good read.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and glad I read it. Keep ’em coming!
I really enjoyed this book but there were some issues I had with their trip to Ireland. If she had a fake birth certificate how did she get a passport. Sorry I’m a stickler for details even in my fiction books
Nice character development. Interesting plot twists. Fun read.
Very enjoyable
Great story. Exciting from beginning to the end.
I liked it very much
I found this story pleasant to read. The story moves along as a good pace, easy to relate to the characters. The lives they live are very believable and the lesson learned is some thing you really need to drop it and mind your own business.
Great read
Good writing, moves well, interesting characters.
Well researched book. Great characters. Whilst there is a bit of rough stuff, not excessive. A great read.
It was interesting and different. The author did a good job of concealing the bad guy.
Who I found annoying was Charlie. I appreciate strong women yet, her best friend hires a private detective and instead of helping him she holds back information that he might use.
The biggest thing I found irritating was he insistence that Simm go to his father’s funeral. How is that her business.
2nd biggest thing~ how the men in her life can’t say “no” to her.
It was a good read ~ I actually read it all the way through ~ yet I’d like to see a strong female lead who helps and appreciates someone helping her than someone who plays a hard-ass and hinders them.
Just when I thought I’d figured out the mystery, here came another twist. Great writing.
Finally….a book with a solid storyline and not a lot of fill in sex! He is hired as a PI to find out who is sending her weird letters. She inherited a bar from a family friend of her fathers. After a break in and a situation with her dog, they go off to Ireland to follow a lead concerning the Irish Mafia and the person threatening her. There is excitement and I would have liked a little more of an attraction discussed between them.
This is outside of my preferred genre, which is Christian fiction, but the suspense/crime element drew me in.
The author did an amazing job keeping me on edge, wondering what would happen next and how things would escalate. I never expected the ending.
Charlie, the main character, is a strong-willed, independent woman, and I enjoyed the unfolding relationship between her and Simm.
The author did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life!
Not realistic, too much time on unimportant & unrelated detail. Slow read, I was unable to finish.
