When parents can send their children to jail to serve time in their place, corruption gets a free pass.
Arlanna’s life quickly turns upside-down when her father, the feared and revered mafia boss, finally gets caught in one of his many schemes and elects to send her to prison in his stead.
The broken system was never more than a frustration for her, but now that her freedom has been stolen … now that her freedom has been stolen away, Arlanna makes it her life’s mission to force the parents of the world to see the error of their ways.
Arlanna knows she can’t endure a life sentence behind bars, paying for a crime she didn’t commit. If she has to take matters into her own hands, she knows she won’t hesitate to find a way to escape her doomed life—no matter who she has to cross.

This story is awesome!
The premise is curious – a society of fae and shifters ruled by a king that allows for the people offspring to pay for their parents crimes.
This is really unfair, so when our heroine gets locked up with a bunch of others unlucky “kids”, we know who to blame.
The thing is… maybe things are not so black & white.
Arianna meets in prison 3 other inmates that will become her friends and more.
I loved all the characters and the story is perfectly crafted. You will find yourself totally hooked, just like me. Beware!
This wonderful but messed up future that Arly lives in where parents can pay to make their children take the penalty for their crimes was such a great read. Gray, Cass, and Charlotte along with Arly are in prison serving time for their parents crimes. Charlotte sees Arly coming as the one who is going to free them all. The characters are strong and well rounded and the story line is fun and intriguing

This is a very messed up way to pay for the sins of your father. I loved how the book played out and I really enjoyed the character development. I would recommend it to others!

The dark, seedy underside of the rich and powerful. Behind every beautiful facade in this book lies a horribly broken soul. The protected children of the elite, used like pawns in their parents’ games. A government that has sanctioned and legalized the selling one’s children into forced labor prisons to atone for their sins. And a group of unlikely friends who are determined to destroy the system.
This book explores many dark topics in a visceral way as the characters deal with the litany of offenses they have been dealt. They are shaped and changed through their experiences, friendship and evolving magic. The one thing they all refuse is to become victims. They may be prisoners at the whim of their families, but they are in control and the system is going down.
My biggest complaint about this book is that the characters were all supposed to be between 20 and 40, but they acted much more like teenagers. In many ways it felt more like a reform academy than a prison. I suppose part of that could be explained by the fact that these are supposed to be the coddled, spoiled children of the rich and elite. Many of the injustices seen in the book were based on real tragedies that are occurring today. The sewing parts too seemed written by someone who is not familiar with industrial machines and piecework, but that is me being picky – the concept worked, the details just threw me out of the story.
This is the first book in a trilogy so don’t expect any type of resolution in this book. It does end in a good spot, not some crazy mid-scene cliff hanger. This book is all about setting the stage though – and I’m looking for some serious action in book 2!
When the daddy gets caught, his daughter gets sent to jail. Sins of the Father indeed.
This is book one of a paranormal fantasy series. The story is well written, easy to read and mixes in a rather dystopian setting as well, making for a very interesting read. The plot is somewhat complex, with lots of twists, turns and revelations along the way which help to keep things very, very interesting. The characters are also well done with unique personalities and quirks, both good and bad. Overall, it was a very engaging read and I am definitely looking forward to seeing what comes next.
Highly recommended.

An original and interesting read thats for sure. This story is built around a world where the law allows a person to send their child to gaol for the parents crimes….. This book is very engaging and it’s certainly a complex read. There is lots of politics, drama and some romance it actually takes a while for the story to build up and the next book is bound to be awesome.

I’m enjoying that the author has aged up her characters, and the magical element is always fun. Hoping there’s not a “which guy do i choose” in the next book or more that Aly gets to have both men. 😉

This was a completely enjoyable read! The idea of children serving a prison sentence in place of their parents is the main idea of this book. Throw in some Fae and a shifter and the result is an intriguing story of what it’s like to be in a prison but not really! There is some drama that unfolds along with magic rediscovered, and alas, a cliffhanger that makes you want to move right on to the next book. Unlikely pairings, some emotional moments and a little bit of clean romance make this book a good read. It was a little slow in places, and there are probably a couple of parts that could have been left out as they don’t really add to the story, but overall, a good read. I’m looking forward to starting the next book shortly!

I’ve never read this author before, and wasn’t sure what to expect. This book was fantastic! So many YA Urban Fantasy books seem so similar. This storyline is like nothing I’ve read yet. The characters are deep and relatable. The storyline left me guessing from beginning to end. The idea of physically paying for the sins of our father’s has been woven into an amazing story. I couldn’t put it down, and find myself desperate for the next book.

This is a great new premise for a series. The author has really went in a different direction than the last few series and I am happy to be part of the adventure.
I am enjoying the new characters and the intrigues that you can already see developing. There are some interesting characters and relationships building.
Arlanna really is building strong bonds and those relationships give them all the strength they need to survive and change these practices.

The concept of this series is epic! The main heroine Arlanna is the daughter of a mafia boss who was finally caught for one of his crimes. However, not only can criminals who have enough money pay for their children to take the sentence and serve their time, but they can also continue to commit crimes and tack the sentence on their children. Arlanna is now stuck serving time for a crime she had no part in. I loved Arlanna. She was fierce! Her friends that she meets in prison are all so interesting and I can’t wait to learn more about all of them. I can’t wait for book 2!
I really loved this particular book. It was a very thrilling experience to be right there in prison with Arly! I felt her pain and anxiety and being heartbroken. Her life just ripped away from her in a instant. Her mistrust for others that led to her true friends and new tasks await her in the next book!! I really hope to explore more about the other characters in the future.

I am a huge fan of this author and was so excited to know that a new series was coming out and I am thrilled that I signed up to read it because this book enthralled me from start to finish. The characters are flawlessly crafted, the world building is second to none and the story itself… pure excellence. To think of a society where a criminal can pay to have their child serve their prison time while they carry on committing crimes is unthinkable but unfortunately for Arlanna a lot of the people in prison are their because their parents were part of her father’s criminal empire or they hate her on principle being a mafia princess whose public profile is very, very different from who she actually is. She soon becomes a target but lucky for her she gains a couple of allies, three to be exact and her bodyguard, who is more a father to her than her actual father, is also doing whatever he can to help her out. Her allies are Charlotte, who refuses to speak until she can find a way to get the “sins of the father” law repealed, Cass (Charlotte’s partner), a snarky, strong woman who can come across as unfriendly but who is loyal to a fault and Gray, a wolf shifter, who is just trying to keep his head down and do his time but Arlanna needs him and the two soon build a really strong connection. These three very quickly realise that Arlanna’s “princess” label isn’t all its cracked up to be and they stand by her while she fights her demons. What is Charlotte’s plan and how will she get it accomplished. When they come up with a plan, things don’t necessarily go exactly to plan. Cannot wait for the next book.

Started out reasonably strong but too much psychological details to move the story along. Found it difficult to maintain interest.

The King’s Law, Sins of the Father allows wealthy parents to send their children to prison to serve their time for a substantial fee. Arlanna is a Fae Mafia Princess, and she has been sent to prison to serve her father’s sentence. With her magic and all of the prisoners taken away, Arlanna must now learn to pay for her keep by working and trying to stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, her family has made many enemies, and there are many at the prison who want to seek revenge for what has befallen them and their families. Will Arlanna and her new friends find a way to break the retched law and free themselves or will they be stuck in prison forever?
I highly enjoy this book. The characters are well developed and I love how not everyone gets along. Many of the backstories are heartbreaking, but all of the good and bad characters flow together nicely. The plot kept me guessing and trying to figure out what had happened to each person at the prison. The way Ms. Twomey weaves the tale of magic and love with betrayal, revenge, and friendships is captivating. I look forward to finding out if Arlanna and the crew succeed or if they are forced to serve more time than necessary. I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy paranormal with a splash of chaotic and romance.

I’m enjoying the story so far it’s well written and the characters! Mary always delivers strong characters and I cannt wait to see what she comes up with next!
I felt really bad for Arlanna. She was a good daughter, kept her nose out of trouble but now she’s being sent to prison for the next 5 years to pay for her fathers crimes. She suddenly realizes that she’s been duped and she begins to make plans to escape her fate. This is a paranormal story that’s intriguing, has magic, shifters, fae, betrayals, lies, hatred, and a blend of disparate personalities with plenty of twists and turns. Wow. Will she and the other children ever be able to get out of jail and change the laws. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
