Sins of the Father – As the fallout from J.R. Simmons death begins to settle, some of the victims are still dealing with the results of that deadly night. Rose mourns the changes in her life and struggles to move on. Neely Kate is devastated when Joe leaves Henryetta two weeks after his father’s death and refuses to speak to her. Joe is left dealing with his father’s business and the consequent … consequent FBI investigation, while he wonders where he belongs. But when Rose’s former neighbor’s family dog runs away, Neely Kate convinces Rose to look for the pet and both discover a few things about themselves in the process.

I so love that we have Joe’s Point of View, it allows us to understand why he is behaving the way he is and handling the aftermath of his Dad and sister.
Of course this shows Rose and Neely Kate’s as well to continue the story but was very excited to see Joe’s. Then Neely Kate’s POV started and oh boy I loved every minute of it!
Between sadness, laughter, heartwarming, it was a great novella. A break from the suspense they have all been dealing with. Great end to this series and beginning of Rose Investigations!
This series is amazing! Start with, 28 and 1/2 Wishes!
I loved that this book tied up the old story and is starting the new Rose story. I was so happy to get some Nelly Kate story with her and Joe. It is nice that MAYBE she will have some family now after all she has been through. I’m sure we are not done hearing her awesome story. Rose has grown so much in such a short amount of time that the novellas help me bring a better perspective of the story. This was a great ending and opening to The Rose Gardner series. I read this from the Newsletter
This book follows up on the aftermath that entails after Thirty-Six and a Half Motives. While the last book was full of action, this book was full of answers and calm. While Neely Kate and Rose added to their case resume, there were also new characters introduced that I think we will see more of. The end of this book leaves it open to be able to start the next book, starting in the Investigation series, Family Jewels. I love that the novellas in this Rose Gardner series do from different POV. It really lets you get into each of the characters heads and understand why they do what they do! Now onto Family Jewels!
The dust has settled in Fenton County and everyone who made it out alive is trying to move past that fateful night in this novella. Once again, I thoroughly enjoy reading all of the different character points of view. Joe is left in the midst of an FBI investigation involving his father, while Rose and Neely Kate deal with struggles of their own. Denise does a great job setting up the continuation of the Rose Gardner mystery series and segues into her new investigation books. Rose and Neely Kate realize they want to become private investigators after helping a neighbor find their lost dog. I’m so happy Rose and her story will continue to live on. It’s been one heck of a ride!
Awesome series!!
OMG – we learned so much in this amazing Novella. If you are considering this series, don’t forget the Novellas. I love that Denise makes these Novellas for us when we are having Rose withdraws.
We see the fallout after the JR “situation” was wrapped up. We witness the tumultuous beginnings of NK and Joe’s relationship as brother and sister. This book, as well as the other novellas, give us insight into the workings of the other characters’ minds. I just have to say Maeve in this book is just amazing! I love reading the novellas! Do not skip them!!
Sins of the Father is a short follow up to the final book in the Rose Gardner Mystery series and also helps introduce the Rose Gardner Investigation series. In this novella, we get the perspectives of Rose, Joe, Neely Kate, and Skeeter. I really did like reading the other character’s point of views and feelings. This book did bring some closure and gave some answers to events that occurred in the 9th book while also leaving more questions that I am sure will be answered in the next series. I felt that this was a nice bridge from the mystery series to the investigation series and I am excited to read more Rose Gardner books!
I was able to read Sins of the Father on Denise’s author page and I loved it. Denise did a great job finishing the story lines with some of the main characters. I love how they all interacted with each other after the whole JR Simmons fiasco.
I love this follow up to Thirty-Six and a half Motives! I love that the book provides more insight and details into the aftermath of the fallout from taking down JR Simmons. The insight and perspectives from the different characters strengthens the connection to each character. Sins of the Father helps tie up the Rose Gardner Mystery novels and provides a great introduction to the Rose Gardner Investigations series.
