Kirkus said of Marked, “Overall, Baker’s prose is sharp and vivid, and she manages to immediately plunge her readers into the world of the novel. The story is swiftly paced and features some surprising twists and intriguing characters, and its combination of sci-fi, mystery, and teen romance makes for a compelling adventure. Marked is a promising YA debut about a girl’s search for a future in the wreckage of the past.”

Suppressed: A blood-borne virus requires a blood-born cure, but can Ruby survive saving everyone else?
The last few weeks sent Ruby Behl’s world into even more of a tailspin than when the Tercera virus first broke out. Her boyfriend might be dead, her best friend isn’t dead, and the man she knew as her father may have kidnapped her at birth. Worse, the virus suppressant suddenly stopped working, accelerating the deaths of thousands. Finding a cure just went from important to critical.
Unfortunately, an essential piece of the puzzle fell into the hands of David Solomon, a zealous cult leader planning to massacre the remaining Marked—unless Ruby gives him what he wants: her blood, possibly all of it. Ruby must decide. Should she stay and help the Marked who rescued her or gamble on saving the entire world? As she grapples with the meaning of family and the value of a legacy, Ruby must decide who to trust—and who’s worth saving in the first place.
Redeemed: No matter what happens…the end is near.
Seventeen year old Ruby Behl never expected to be thrust into a position of power. But so much has changed in the past few months, she’s prepared to accept the responsibility. Her best friend Wesley was Marked with the Tercera virus. Her boyfriend Sam was shot to death. She found her father’s journal with the key to a cure. But the leaders of the port cities have assembled with a threat of their own: to Cleanse the world of the remaining Marked.
When a vicious attack accelerates the virus, Ruby and her friends have less than a week to find the cure, prevent the Cleanse, and rescue her aunt from execution. Ruby is convinced her father’s old partner stole the antidote, but she has no clue to his identity. Torn between saving her family or hundreds of thousands of Marked, she must figure out who he is and find him before time runs out—for everyone.

Post-apocalyptic has never been my thing, but I’m glad I read this collection. While the story itself is compelling, the descriptive writing is absolutely stunning. I found myself being drawn in right from the start to the exclusion of everything else in my life (including sleep!)
Now, on to the story itself. Ruby has always felt like an outsider, both her parents are dead and she was raised by her aunt and uncle. In a world turned upside down by a deadly virus, Ruby’s story isn’t unique where almost all of the adults have perished. Living in a small, heavily-armed community of people who haven’t contracted the virus has left Ruby feeling isolated and torn about what to do with her future which needs to be decided in the next few days after she turns 17.
I hate reviews which give away the best parts of the story, so I won’t be “one of those!” Needless to say, the victims of the virus have taken a turn for the worst and the status quo has to change. Ruby believes she can make a difference and she begins to take steps toward that end. Luckily, she has a great group of friends, family, and supporters to help her along the way.
Even though this story covers a serious topic, the relationships between the characters keep the story light-hearted with their witty banter, realistic knowledge, and love for one another. Even the villains are portrayed perfectly evil with their strengths and flaws on full display.
If you love a great adventure, then this series is for you. Best of all, this is a clean story which can also be shared with younger audiences. I love Baker’s writing style and I highly recommend this series!
The first 3 books in this series unfold the gripping story of Ruby, a young girl who finds out that her past holds a lot of secrets– and she may be the only person who can stop the virus ravaging the world. You won’t be able to put it down.
Awesome collection of books! This series kept getting better and better. Just when I thought everything was getting better, a new twist entered the plot. Very unpredictable and suspenseful. I read this whole series in a matter of days. I am not usually a reader of this genre, but I still loved these stories! I highly recommend!
Love this series. The Characters made me like them and care about them.
This was a fantastic series! I laughed, I cried, I cheered, I cringed, I swooned. I love Bridget E. Baker writing!
This whole series kept me on the edge of my seat! Lots of unexpected twists and turns! I love all the science behind Bridget’s books!! I hope we will get more to this story!
Three books in one
My review of Marked:
Ruby is a feisty girl just coming into her society’s “adulthood” when her life is turned upside down with something as simple as a kiss from a guy she’s been crushing on for a while. It sets her on a journey of discovery about her past that poses questions she hasn’t considered (including her feelings for her friend Sam), all while being chased by a bunch of Marked (people with a terrible disease that will kill them quickly).
This dystopian tale has an interesting assortment of characters, a sweet romance (I mean Sam!), and some fun twists at the end.
Review of Suppressed:
Another compelling read in this series. What an emotional rollercoaster! Lots going on between the background of dying kids and Ruby having the ability to save some of them. Maybe. Always with the time clicking down. Some great twists again.
Review of Redeemed:
An action-packed conclusion to a compelling series. Full of twist and turns and some seriously messed up family connections, the bittersweet tale manages to be positive with a strong stress on “family” that goes beyond blood ties.
