Will devour any and all things Flynn
I found the SINS series after reading Wrecked & Ruin by the same author (great book btw, you should read it).
The SINS world is an epic roller coaster that begins with Barrett falling victim to her brothers sins. From there, her life is irrecoverably changed.
This series aligns with a couple tropes (mafia, dark, forced-ish relationship), but somehow stands alone among all others.
Barrett has the wool pulled from her eyes and although she’s new to the sins of the underground, she adapts quickly and captivates more than just Flynn with her strength and will.
“..I used to see nothing but a beautiful woman. Smart, yes. But I didn’t understand what Igor and Campbell saw in you. They knew you were special. It took me longer to see it, but once I did… I’m grateful you’re my friend. And you shouldn’t be afraid of who you are, who you’re becoming.”
And Flynn, ooooooweee. Flynn is the epitome of a book boyfriend and the heartbreaking feeling you get knowing he’s not real.
“…Barrett. I can’t lose you.”
“What if I’m already lost?” Flynn turned to look at me, his face harsh in the moonlight, like the wild beauty surrounding us.
“If you’re lost, then I’ll find you.”
Gahhh
He’s dangerous, demanding, and powerful, yet it’s not overly done and cringeworthy. Hes 100% these things in his business, but when it comes to Barrett.. he’s just the right amount of everything. He pushes her when she needs to be pushed & pulls at the exact moment she’s begins to unravel. And let’s not forget the sexy accent . There’s no way you can read this series and not feel these characters and their connection on a deeper level.
Barrett & Flynn’s story is packed full of action, danger, really REALLY close calls, & sexyness all wrapped up with a big ol love bow on top.
I dare you to read it and not fall in love
I have read the whole Sins Series along with Wreck & Ruin by Emma Slate. Non of them disappoint. I could not put any of the books down. I’ve read most of them more then once. I cannot wait for more Barrett & Flynn.
This is one if my all time favorite series!!!!! Emma’s writing literally pulls you into the SINS world and trust me you won’t want to leave!!!! Obsessed with the couples and the twists and action. You have to read this series!!
This whole series had me unable to put it down! The twists and turns. The love and devotion are just heart melting!! This series is a MUST read.
This series is one of my favorites!!!
The action & romance kept me always wanting to read more!
I’d definitely recommend this series to anyone looking for an interesting, HOT read!!
This was my first book by Emma Slate and I immediately went down the rabbit hole; reading all 4 books of Flynn and Barrett in a single weekend. I loved everything about this, I could not stop turning the pages. No boring moments, action-packed and seeing Barrett become a queen was amazing! I definitely recommend this series for anyone who likes strong heroines and steamy, action packed reads
This series has the perfect mix of romance, sass, action and suspense. Who doesn’t love a man that loves and respects our heroine and it’s a bonus that you’ll hear his Scottish accent in your head while you read! Barrett is witty and truly a lovable character. I look forward to reading more of her and Flynn’s adventures.
This whole series is fantastic. The way it’s written leaves you wondering when you finish the books, what the characters are doing now. I love how the characters develop and their strengths grow.
Barrett and Flynn are in love in a way that not many ever achieve. It conquers all.
Once you start reading, you can’t put it down.
It’s four and a half stars from me!
Summary:
Our heroine, Barrett, is introduced to Flynn Campbell—our hero—in the beginning of the book by her brother—who emotionally abused her in the past—and the story kicks off from there.
Eventually, the two strike a deal, and Barrett agrees to work for Flynn in his club to pay off what her brother owes him. Flynn and Barrett are instantly attracted to each other, but don’t act on that lust for a while.
The reason Flynn wants Barrett working in his club is so he can find out who exactly is smuggling in the drugs into people’s drinks. Some time later, the offender is discovered, and Flynn and Barrett make their dating public.
Soon, they’re confessing their love for each other, then flying to—guess where?!—Vegas to get married so he can protect her from a Russian mob leader named Igor Dolinsky.
Igor ends up kidnapping Barrett, keeping her “hostage” for a little over a month, trying to get her to fall in love with him and turn against Flynn. She acts like she wants Flynn dead, and that helps her survive her time with the Russians. She comes up with a plan with Igor’s right-hand man, Sasha, and she kills Dolinsky, finding her way back into the safety of Flynn’s arms (not literally since he’s distant for a bit).
After a small bump (pun intended) in their relationship, Barrett finds out she’s pregnant with a child she’s been telling herself she’d never have for her whole life, yet decides to keep it when Flynn himself discovers the pregnancy.
The book ends when they find a new apartment to call home, and they choose to move their story forward, since they can’t start fresh with all the baggage Flynn comes with.
My thoughts:
Their love developed way too quickly. The relationship they had was built on attraction and lust and pent-up sexual tension, yet when they confessed their love for each other I had a hard time pushing through the shock of it. I guess, like Twilight, I didn’t see it coming this quickly. That part of the book really threw me off, and yet when Barrett began to develop feelings for Igor, I did see it as believable and realistic because of the way their relationship sprouted and bloomed.
When Barrett and Sasha teamed up to kill Igor…it just didn’t make much sense to me. We don’t get a hint through Barrett’s thoughts that she’s up to something, and Sasha acted very nonchalant about the fact that his boss was dead because of him.
The romance between Barrett and Flynn, however, was a whole other story…it was freaking hot.
“He claimed me and I let him.”
Oh, jeez. That had my toes curling and the pages flipping faster.
Flynn is my favorite character in this entire story. His humor is dry and hilarious.
“Then I’d be honored to be the trophy on your other arm.”
Well, I can’t say that didn’t have me laughing out loud. While he has a funny side, he’s also very logical. I found that while there were some things (concerning his relationship with Barrett) he didn’t like to happen, he granted them for her.

Page 148 (Kindle edition):
I shook my head. “I need some time.”
Flynn’s face went blank, his eyes steely. “Fine. I’ll call you later.” He briefly
kissed my cheek and then left.
…
Sometime in the middle of the night, I rolled over, encountering warm skin and
a solid body. I snuggled close to him, put my hand on his chest, and went
back to sleep.

Now, many other men, when asked for time from the girl/woman, would either break it off completely or make such a big fuss—but not Flynn. He knows what Barrett needs and what’s best for their relationship even though he hates staying away, which is why hours later he returned to her. I really like that about him.
Overall, the book was a really fun adventure, and I can’t wait to start re-reading the second and third!
The whole series is 5 stars!
Loved reading this every minute of its story…
I suggest you join N0velStar’s writing competition this April.
Sins of a King was my first Emma Slate book (but not my last) and it did not disappoint. The character and plot development are top notch. The reader is drawn into the world of SINS and it does not release you. A word of caution, I would suggest that you consider what you plan to accomplish in a day before beginning this series. From Sins of a King to Ashes, I could not put it down. There were days when the only thing I accomplished was finishing a book. Excellent job Miss Slate. I bow to your genius.
I was super excited to start this series since I read Wreck and Ruin before hand. I cried I laughed and I super loved Flynn. I adored Barrett. Such an amazing couple and the crap they go through makes it even better.
I absolutely love love love all of the books from this series. Couldn’t put them down.
This was the first book by Emma Slate that I had read and I have now read everything by her. You really get pulled into Barrett and Flynn’s world and can’t put the books down. I have re-read these books over and over again and never tire of them. Do yourself a favour and give this book ago, I promise… you won’t regret it!
Love the whole series. I read this awhile ago and never posted my review. And just recently reread the series for who knows what time(yes I know that’s crazy) but it’s a great series. On the edge of you’re seat throughout the series and each of the books on their own. I originally read the first 4 individually then reread them as the 1-4 set. These books suck you in until the last page. This book starts with her estranged sibling essentially ‘selling’ her to Flynn for a debt he can’t pay. This begun their relationship where she helps him search for someone out to harm his club and his employees. Barest is drawn into the crazy work of The Rex and Flynn and the SINS. She knows nothing good can come of falling for him but is powerless to his draw. He you learn is similar in obsession of Barrett and her brilliance and beauty. This book and the whole series is full of twists, turns, edge of your seat moments, SINS, secrets and steam!! Must read!!
YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK.
Its just simply amazing, JUST GO READ IT. Your thank me later.
This is the start of a story that will get you hooked onto the rest of the series.
In the first book you meet Flynn and Barrett, both come from very different worlds but they have a connection that no one can break, no matter how hard they try.
Flynn is a sexy alpha Scotsman and Barrett is a historian, their meeting is down to her brother double crossing her and paying back a debt.
As I said, this book got me hooked and I couldn’t help but read the rest of the series.
This is one of the best books I have ever read. This is the book that introduced me to Emma Slate and I have now read everything by her. You really get immersed into Barrett and Flynn’s universe and can’t wait for the next instalment. These are my go to for re reads, no matter how many times I read- they are still excellent!
Let the journey begin…as you meet Barrett, and then Flynn- you are drawn in and realize that are about to join them on a journey. I am here to tell you, having been on that journey through several books- it’s incredible and Emma Slate has the imagination and writing skills of no other. You become part of the SINS, you plot, you feel, you are enraged, turned on, horrified, stumped, the gamet of emotions. This is a journey you will thoroughly enjoy-often wonder what will be next, but stay on course. It’s worth every word.
