Tit for Tat!
You steal from me, I steal from you.
You give back what you took, I’ll return your’s.
Easy, right!
Well, not if you want to exchange a woman for lifeless goods.
And not if you begin to realize that she is nothing what you expected.
Then the basis for your righteous anger begins to crumble, and those deliciously deviant games you had planned to get your revenge take on a decidedly different meaning.
As all the Top Shelf Beverages, this one is a scrumptious palate tease and a satisfyingly belly warming treat going down.
I’m new to this series but all books are standalone so I had no trouble with catching up.
This book started with a bang and it grabbed my attention with intriguing characters and interesting enough storyline.
Unfortunately, after a great start, this book started to lose me about half way through.
My biggest complaint is inconsistency and too sudden personality changes, especially from Matthew. Some scenes and dialogue also felt really choppy.
And while there was some kink at the beginning, I was expecting the story to be more dark.
I also missed some suspense or twist to the storyline. I was surprised there was no retaliation for Aria’s kidnapping from her father. The ending also seemed completely rushed and sloppy, and it fell flat for me.
Overall, it was good but I’m kind of disappointed that it ended up being only okay after such a promising start.

Part of the Top shelf series, but can be read as a stand-alone book. There is much less of Spiked Roses, instead following Matthew’s need for revenge on the mafia boss who stole from him. I thought this book had great potential but honestly didn’t quite do it for me. This is still an enjoyable read but I found the transitioning from enemies to lovers a little clunky and a lighter shade of dark than I was expecting. The elements are all there, there is a good level of heat but not much suspense or plot twists. If you prefer just dipping your toe into dark romance then this could be the one for you.

I see the potential and some readers will rave about this book
I did enjoy the book. The book had a good heat level and an interesting enough premise (although in no way unique) There was no surprise or slight twist and execution was average.
There are a couple of things that grated a bit. Least was 3 or 4 points of discontinuity. A personal pet peeve and possibly not something that other readers will find annoying or even pick up. More of an issue was the whiplash I got from the 2 characters – especially the h. Yes, I understand ambivalent feelings given a kidnap situation, but I felt that she had more of a personality change than a a change of feelings between some scenes. Even the ending was lackluster and needed a final moment of “Oh shit, what will my father think and do we really want this?” It is not as if they haven’t already had this discussion and was supposed to be on “honeymoon” stage. I felt this was contrived and the author was just making up word count.
In the end, although I enjoyed the book, I am less inclined to believe the emotional connection between the characters and didn’t much like the h’s ambivalent feelings.

I thought this book was very different to the others in the series as so little was about Spiked Roses and yet it was every bit a compelling as all the others. It was interesting that there was no violence since the dispute was between a Mafia Kingpin and one of the owners of Spiked Roses, but it was a nice change and right for the storyline. Matthew and Aria were like chalk and cheese but the passion between them was powerful. Tennessee was as delightful as he always is and provided some light relief from the tension. The ending was a pleasant surprise given the start and made this a unique book full of sex and passion and fulfillment.
Sinners & Gin is a great addition to the Top Shelf series.
I loved and enjoyed every minute of reading this treat.
Read it in one go and wanted more.
Mathew is a strict businessman who doesn’t change his ways.
He has a structured life.
He’s no nonsense and doesn’t tolerate deviation.
So when Mathew has something valuable stolen from him.
Well what’s a man to do except steal what’s valuable from the thief.
Aria is the daughter of a powerful mafia boss.
She has everything money can buy.
But being the daughter of a notorious gangster comes with a price.
And it’s more than meets the eye.
Their story is turbulent and comes at a cost.
But it’s also sexy and sizzling hot.
How can it not be.
When Ms. Hensley gives the reader one hot alpha dominant man and a beautiful headstrong princess!
This is a good dark romance in a crime lord/mafia world
The hero is a strict dominant who kidnaps a mafia princess to trade her for a shipment her father stole
It’s a cabin romance with lots of hot scenes.
There is not much action and conflict outside the couple’s budding relationship and road to HEA

I am in LOVE with this series.
Aria’s father took something from Matthew so he takes something from her father. Her.
Matthew and Aria aren’t meant to be together. They come from opposite sides almost. Enemies. But, love and hate, fear and lust are like two sides of the coin. Aria has no reason to trust anything Matthew says, but the same could be said about her father. Difference between the two is she somewhat admires Matthew. Definitely admires what he can do to her.
Matthew should hate her by her blood alone. Her father stole from him so he takes her for revenge. Some things are hardwired into Matthew and protecting women is one of them. While he may not want to want her, he does. That doesn’t change his mind that she’s a means to an end.
While they aren’t supposed to be, they’re meant to be. You can’t change what you want. Who you want. But Matthew is a business man and he has his own way. Ruthless in almost everything. But her father being who he is, they can’t be anything to the other and all things end. But as we’ve learned from these Spiked Roses guys, things hardly turn out how you first expected them to. And this is one connection you can’t break.
I am in love with this series. Alta weaves a tale of dark, kidnap, revenge, hot, intense, mind blowing goodness. How do you exact revenge on a thief? You steal something of value to them. Just don’t let your heart get in the way. Love, love, loved this book.
If you’ve read the others, you know you’re in for a treat. I read this in one sitting, it’s a quick read and more than worth the time.
Matthew is everything you’d expect from the Spiked Roses guys and Aria is a force in her own right, that not even Matthew was completely ready for.
As the time the spend together lengthens, their relationship starts to change. What started out as a means to an end takes on a whole new dynamic. And we all know it wouldn’t be a Top Shelf book without a little defiance and a whole lot of steam, add in the genius that is Tennessee and you have it all.
Sinners and Gin by Alta Hensley is Unadulterated Debauchery at it’s highest level!
The story is raw, and filled to the brim with dysfunction, with a clear case of Stockholm Syndrome as it’s core.
The H, Matthew, is a true Dominant, and the h, Aria, is a headstrong, undercover Submissive.
The premise of the story at times seemed unrealistic, cringe worthy, and irrational; However, the Author has a strong voice, that pulls the reader in, well done!
