Sinners Series: Book One There’s a dead man in Miki St. John’s vintage Pontiac GTO, and he has no idea how it got there. After Miki survives the tragic accident that killed his best friend and the other members of their band, Sinner’s Gin, all he wants is to hide from the world in the refurbished warehouse he bought before their last tour. But when the man who sexually abused him as a boy is … sexually abused him as a boy is killed and his remains are dumped in Miki’s car, Miki fears Death isn’t done with him yet.
Kane Morgan, the SFPD inspector renting space in the art co-op next door, initially suspects Miki had a hand in the man’s murder, but Kane soon realizes Miki is as much a victim as the man splattered inside the GTO. As the murderer’s body count rises, the attraction between Miki and Kane heats up. Neither man knows if they can make a relationship work, but despite Miki’s emotional damage, Kane is determined to teach him how to love and be loved — provided, of course, Kane can catch the killer before Miki becomes the murderer’s final victim.

I can safely say that any book by Rhys Ford is a winner for me. She has such a knack for writing troubled hurt characters, fast paced suspenseful plots and satisfying HEAs. I usually avoid singer/rock star romances, but I am glad that I didn’t this time. It was so good!
I like Miki and Kane equally. Miki’s past is just tragic in a way I can’t even put into words. Despite everything he is such a strong and resilient man, I can’t help but admire him. Kane is just what Miki needs: accepting, protective, caring and fierce. The relationship is a whirlwind: the intensity of their feelings and the chemistry between them are amazing. I adore everything about the Morgan clan: their close bonds, acceptance and they way they take Miki into their fold. Brigid Morgan is one wonderful mama.
The case is in parts gruesome and scary as well as slightly convoluted. I loved it. All the gross and investigative parts of it made for fun read. I enjoyed this story and the tidbit Ms Ford threw in the end was just wicked! So good!
The first book I read by Rhys Ford. this is one of my favorite stories and I cannot praise it enough. Must read.
Fans in a Facebook writer’s group made so much noise about this series, I felt ashamed that I hadn’t yet read the first book–something I rectified IMMEDIATELY. And I’m so very glad I did! Sinner’s Gin is the beginning of one AWESOME series. At the beginning of the book, we see that Miki St. John is celebrating a music award with band member friends only to have the night end in a horrible accident with Miki being severely injured and the group’s only survivor. All alone save an abandoned dog, Miki is hurting in more than one way. A run-in with a ‘neighbor’ results in Miki acquiring a much-needed friend, lover, and champion in the form of San Francisco Police Department Inspector Kane Morgan. His relationship with Inspector Morgan is fortunate as the dead body of a pedophile that had abused him in the past is discovered in Miki’s vintage Pontiac GTO and it becomes obvious that Miki is in grave danger. The author of this series is no wimp, being willing to wade into the dark stuff of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse of children. Miki becomes vulnerable to these things because of parental neglect–he was found wandering around St. John Street in a dirty diaper when he was about two years old. The book is awesome but may serve as a trigger for some. For others that love a story of triumph over adversity, there is NO finer book to read. It exists in audiobook format narrated by the simply incredible Tristan James. That reader is able to do Irish accents for multiple characters including women–all so different and beautifully rendered.
Absolutely loved this book. It was an all-in-one-session read for me…couldn’t put it down.
The author does a great job of creating and developing these characters so that they crawl right under your skin. You feel for Miki and oh admire Kane and you so want them to get their happy ever after.
The suspense story is tense and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The crisis moment is exciting and fulfilling. A little more detail in the final chapter would have been nice (why administrative leave, did Kane move in etc) but it’s a minor complaint.
I had read the blurb for book two before I read this book. In fact it was what got me interested and I always have to read in order so I downloaded this book first. Since I knew what was coming that ending wasn’t a shock for me and I kept waiting to see how it was going to play in. I’ll be quickly moving on to that book as I’m anxious to see how this all plays out. I can already feel the hatred developing for a couple of people I know I’m going to want to throat punch!
I love this series. it’s high paced, packed with action, bit of drama but also lots of fun, amazing characters and so much happening. I’ve re-read it many times and I still am finding new things I’ve missed before.
Great beginning to a series. Loved it. The series is finished so now is the perfect time to binge read.
