Reeling from the painful rejection of a man he thought he loved, Asher is left holding the baby.
Ash wants a family, and is determined to continue with a surrogacy he’d begun with his ex. Bringing baby Mia home, he vows that he will be the best father he can be. Nothing in this world matters more to him than caring for his daughter, not even accidentally falling in lust with the doctor next … doctor next door. Challenged by his growing attraction to Sean, and confronted by painful memories of his family, Ash has to learn that love is all that matters.
When ER doctor Sean moves in with his friends next door to sexy single father Ash, he falls so quickly it takes his breath away. The sex they have is hot, but Ash is adamant his heart is too full with love for his daughter to let anyone else in. Why is Sean the only one who sees how scared Ash is, and how can he prove to his new lover that he desperately wants the three of them to become a family?

As usual, Sean Crisden delivered a fantastic audio performance of another great story by RJ Scott. It was a couple of months ago that I read this book. Listening to the audio made me love it even more. My original review of the ebook follows below.

I loved it!
Single is a great book with all the feels and a nice amount of sexy time. I’m a sucker for stories involving single dads, especially if they are struggling a bit.
Ash followed through with surrogacy plans after his cheating ex left him because he really wanted to be a dad. He’s planned for everything but real life doesn’t always go according to plan. Thank goodness he has a wonderful sister who’s willing to help him out. What he isn’t looking for is another dad for Mia. But Ash never expected to meet someone like the hot ER doctor next door.
Sean is instantly attracted to Ash and Mia; he loves kids. He has a hard time getting Ash to even agree to have coffee. He knows that he must take things slow if he’s ever going to win Ash over.
This book, like most of RJ’s do for me, read as smooth as glass and I couldn’t put it down once I started. There was just the right blend of sweet, angst and sexy. I loved the interesting cast of secondary characters and look forward to reading the next book in this series.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

Ash is willing to do thing on his on but it doesn’t make life easy. The guys next door are willing to help. But Dr. Sean seems to hold the top billing. I like how these two fit in each other’s lives so easily and become a family.

Single dad, hot doctor and an adorable newborn! What more could you want!!!
I had heard great things about this new series by RJ and it is just as good as described!
I loved Ash and baby Mia and felt for him just like every other new parent as they try and figure out what the hell to do with a newborn! I found the mishaps and truths comforting and really enjoyed RJ authenticity on new parenting, especially single parenting.
I found Sean totally endearing and loved that he wasn’t afraid to face his feelings and desires even though he hasn’t really had a relationship or deeper connection before. I enjoyed their back and forth between Sean and Ash and loved that they balanced each other out and always took Mia into everything they did and Sean always treated Ash and Mia as a unit. I loved the first responder’s trio; Sean, Eric, and Leo and can’t wait for their stories.
I loved Ash and Sean and my only other comment is that I wanted more! I wanted more background, especially with Sean and felt like to book/story was wrapped up really quickly and those last few chapters felt a little rush, in comparison to the rest of the book. All in all, its still a great story and I’m loving the collection of characters (and kids) RJ has created.
Sean Crisden did a fantastic job narrating this one and I love when the narrator has differing nuances for each character. I look forward to seeing what he will do with the rest of the characters in the series!
A really enjoyable story with great narration, I recommend it!!

Ash’s dream was to have a family, he wanted a supporting partner and a baby. When the partner part of that equation left him, it was just him and a baby. One that he wanted desperately and he was going to be the best father he could be to his little girl. When he starts to fall for Sean, the hot doctor next door, Ash feels that he would be best just focusing on Mia and everything that she needs. So he tries to maintain his distance, what he doesn’t count on is that Sean is willing to take things slow in order for the two of them to be something more. When Ash’s ex pops up, will all Sean’s hard work be for nothing?
This was such a cute story. Anyone that is a parent can totally relate to all of Ash’s fears and how those first couple of weeks go. I can’t wait to see how Eric’s story plays out. I give this 4 stars.
Single fathers books are my favorites. There’s just something about a man cooing over a baby that gets me all swoony…know what I mean? And let me tell you, RJ Scott’s character Asher is one of the most adorable single father I’ve ever read about: freaking out for the littlest mishap and anxious about doing everything wrong. In a few words, just like every other new parent out there that has to learn through trial and error.
Ash is scared of messing up but he’s determined to be the best father for his baby Mia. He’s also convinced that he has to give up dating for a long time because his daughter is his priority. That’s why it’s hard to allow himself to get involved with his neighbor Sean.
Sean is amazing. An ER doctor, he’s sensitive, compassionate, caring and most importantly, he’s patient. He doesn’t rush things between himself and Ash,although he’s slowly falling for Mia and her father. He’s ready to wait and do whatever it takes to convince Ash that his little family of two could be so much better with Sean in it,becoming a family of three.
What I appreciate most about RJ Scott’s books is how real the characters and their feelings are. In Single, I easily related to Ash’s fears and to Sean’s insecurities. Nothing is taken for granted, each step forward in their relationship is hard earned and considered. By the end of the book I was left with feeling included in the warm embrace of family and love.
I absolutely recommend it.
I’ve read this author before. This is a mm contemporary romance set in the USA. Main characters are Ash and new baby Mia and his new next door neighbour Sean the ER doctor. This story is just beautiful. Can’t wait to read more from this series. Told from duel POV.
Goes around in a few circles, but a good plot.
4 1/2 Stars
Good, sweet read. Interesting characters. Believable storyline. Nice romance and spicy sexy times. The ending was a bit rushed but all in all, a lovely way to while away a few hours.
Single by RJ Scott – A firefighter, a surgeon, and a cop move in next door to a computer geek with a newborn daughter. It really does feel like the start of a joke, but this is a really sweet series starter! Happy Reading!

Man, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved how Ash doted on Mia to the point of exhaustion but that’s new parents for you and that they try and be perfect. Ash and his ex-partner Darius were going down the surrogacy route, Darius talked Ash into being the biological father which he was totally okay but should’ve seen the warning signs way before then. Darius leaves as he got a job offer in England but Ash decides to keep going with the process and he’ll be a single dad.
I loved the connection between Ash and Sean who lives next door to Ash and Mia and met when his roommate and best friend Eric got drunk after not being able to save heaps of people from a fire and ended up banging on Ash’s door in the middle of the night scaring the sh*t out of him and waking Mia. The next day Sean goes over with a bottle of wine, some flowers and a toy for the baby to appologies for Eric and explain the situation as best as he could. Ash is bleeding so Sean being a doctor ends up patching Ash up, even though Ash says that he’s okay they then sit down for coffee but Mia wakes up and Ash leaves the room saying that he’ll be back in a minute so Sean decides to clean up the shards of pottery, then he cleans the kitchen and Ash still isn’t back downstairs so he leaves but since he can’t lock the door he keeps an eye out for anyone going up to Ash’s house. Ash and Sean slowly get closer and Ash slowly starts to let go a wee bit and try’s not to be so perfect.
I loved how you can see that Ash starts to trust Sean with Mia as he doesn’t mind him holding her. Eric and Leo, slowly fall in love with wee Mia and become her honorary uncles but Sean becomes her other daddy. I love the friendship/brother type relationship between Sean, Eric and Leo. The Story Eric told Ash that he wanted to be a dr when he was little as he got a toy medical kit but Sean demanded the kit and swapped it with a dress up firefighter and the rest is history. I loved how when Darius showed back up Ash didn’t even think about it and passed her to Sean knowing that he’d protect her and keep her safe. Darius is a complete wa*ker and only wanted Ash and Mia for a ready made family so he could have a better chance at getting funding for a new job in Scotland, instead of actually loving them. I’m looking forward to reading Eric and Leo’s stories next. I’d recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
Single is the first book in RJ Scott’s Single Dads series and was another good addition to my low-angst week. This is a short, sweet, and slightly sexy audio featuring Ash the wounded and worrying single dad and Sean the genial and hot doctor who lives next door.
I love how realistically Scott portrays Ash as the sleep deprived but deeply devoted father to infant Mia. I appreciated that Mia was not some prop who conveniently slept most of the time and only made an appearance when a funny dirty diaper scene was needed. (Though, yes, there is a dirty diaper scene anyone spending time with a new baby can relate to.) Ash is committed, yet slightly unprepared (who isn’t?!?) for new parenthood, especially going at it all alone. Fortunately he discovers he doesn’t have to be as alone as he thought.
I like that Sean was interested, yet respectful of Ash’s hesitancy and that Sean fell in love with Mia as much as Ash. Sean’s housemates, Eric and Leo, are a fun but multi-dimensional group of guys. I’m looking forward to more of Eric as he meets Ash’s elusive friend, Brady in book 2, Today.
Narration:
Sean Crisden is a great fit for this book. Smooth and calm for Sean, a little anxious for Ash. He gives all the characters unique voices and they’re consistent throughout the book. I’m happy that he’s performing the whole series.
This single dad romance put new-time dad Asher, next door to his very own rescue team that included ER doctor Sean. While their first meet cute was delirium at its best, their subsequent meetings kept getting better as Asher got more rest and more comfortable with Sean. I cannot wait to read Eric and Bradley’s story next!
Really loved this read. Ash is a wonderful father and oh Mia is adorable. Sean is a surprise but they click and work. Book 1 in a new series by RJ Scott. Looking forward to Brady’s story.
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This book, this just shy of 200 pages?? So bloody sweet, I broke a tooth!
I mean it’s so bloody good, so cute, warm and fuzzies too!
Ash is left, quite literally, holding the baby, and the idiot banging on his door at 3am is gonna get it if he wakes Mia up! Sean comes to rescue his friend, who just moved in next door to Ash, and is smitten, immediately, and totally with Ash, but equally, with Mia. Once Sean knows Ash is single, he wages an all out war to make him see that just because he has a baby, he doesn’t have to be a monk.
Like I said, so bloody good!
Both Ash and Sean have a say, in the first person. Both voices are clearly headed, and happen as the chapter changes. Both men’s voices are well defined and they tell their story well. I loved the marked differences between them too.
Ash is trying, bless him, to be the best dad he can, and is a little overwhelmed by that new dad feeling, especially now he bought Mia home, and he is alone. He thinks he won’t have a life til she leaves home, and holds steadfast to that, till Sean makes him see that he doesn’t need to give up on life. Ash’s sister will help, his mother is a bit on the dodgy side. Their relationship is rocky at the best of times, but she tries to make amends here, she really does.
Eric and Leo are Sean best friends and house mates. Sean is an Emergency Room doctor; Eric, a fireman and Leo is a cop. They three guys are great together, and once Sean admits Ash is HIS, they look out for Ash and Mia.
There are some characters who hint at their stories, Eric and Leo included, and I can’t wait to meet Brady properly: he has some tale to tell, I’m sure!
This is the first full length book I’ve read of Scott’s that was just written by her. I’ve read the Owattonna U Hockey series she wrote with VL Locey. I want to read more. I really enjoyed this!
4 sickly sweet but oh so GOOD stars!

Great story potential, but it was disappointing, to be kind
A gorgeous sweet romantic story, with adorable characters 🙂
I love a good single dad romance. Asher just grabs at your heart. He’s a single dad whose boyfriend left him when they were supposed to be a family unit. You can tell what a great dad he is even though he may not feel it himself at times. His new neighbors are going to help this single dad in more ways then one. Sean, Eric, and Leo are all first responders and yummy. Sean is adorable with Asher and Mia. You root for him to get the guy. He’s such a calming presence for Asher. The characters in this one truly make the book. I got so invested in their story and I just wanted to see where their journey took them. This book just packs in the feels. It’s a make you feel good book. It’s a first in the series and I really can’t wait for the next book.
I loved this story about Ash and Sean. The way the author portrays the MC’s with so much heart and I really enjoyed this book especially regarding Baby Mia. Sean and his flatmates were amazing friend to have and I highly recommend this book and so looking forward to more in this series.
I enjoyed this story, which is the first book of a new RJ Scott series. Sean the ER doctor was the perfect man, and I was a little frustrated with the hot and cold treatment Ash gave him. Other than his indecision regarding Sean and his fear of letting anyone besides his sister close to his baby, I did like Ash, though. I thought he was a good dad to infant Mia, and I think with some rest, he was a really good guy. Of course, Doctor Perfect (Sean) was kind and generous with or without sleep, but I won’t hold that against Ash!
I liked the secondary characters, and I look forward to Eric and Leo hopefully finding love as the series progresses. I also want to learn what makes Ash’s online friend Brady keep himself so isolated, and what it will take to make him and the kids he’s raising find happiness. I think this is going to be a great emotional series, and I can’t wait for more!
