Be still my foolish heart . What an extraordinary and dynamic duo of creative genius Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca are! As the pages turn and the story unfolds the visualization and excellent imagery transports you to Scotland 1286. It’s like having a front row seat. Well researched and well written this series is off to a fantastic start.
When I knew Cecelia was a part of this series I was in for sure. Julie is new to me but definitely a new favorite on my list. The two are brilliant, both individually and together.
Our hero Rhys is everything you could want in the hero. He’s intelligent, noble and honorable, brave yet gentle and loving, a good man. I’m in love with the figment of another woman’s imagination.
Our heroine Maggie as a young woman willing to sacrifice her happiness to save her family. She’s intelligent, bold, feisty, has lots of spunk and yet she’s gentle and good. A true heroine.
This is an enchanting story of adventure, mystery, romance and love woven beautifully with the magical threads of fate by the hands of two amazing authors. An absolute must read! I can’t wait for “The Sexy Scot”!
Thank you so much Julie and Cecelia for your collaboration, for your research, and for your extraordinary talent in penning this exciting, spellbinding story.

This is the first in a four book series about the four McCaim brothers & oh what a starter – totally engrossing I couldn’t put it down & read it in two sittings. I was hooked from the Author’s note at the beginning & left wanting the next book immediately when I finished it. A fast paced plot that at times had me at the edge of my seat, wonderful characters & a lovely romance. I loved both Rhys & Maggie, especially how they protected each other whilst all the time falling in love. A highlight of the book, for me, was the differences in the language used. Thank goodness it’s not long to wait until the next book
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This journey in time was unlike any you have ever read. A modern day billionaire is trapped in medieval Scotland with the love of his life and no hope to return to present day New Orleans, La. Rhys fate was sealed when he kissed Maggie and it would be forever with his sweet wife. He didn’t care where they were as long as they were together. A magical story with a beautiful love full of passion and family ties. I’m so ready for the next story and new adventure.
Captivating Story! I could not put it down! The story is well written and has many amazing characters that travel through time looking for answers. From page one, I fell in love with the story and how it developed into a search for the truth and finding your destiny. The characters will have to adapt and accept the impossible to be able to find love and help their loved ones. I can not wait for the next book of the series! A must read!
Rhys never believed his dad when he said his mother was pulled back in time years ago but he finds it hard to deny when all of a sudden the same thing happens to him. Now he has to try and find his missing mother and then figure out how to get back to the future. Maggie is stunned when Rhys just appears before her and does not believe his story about coming from the future. What she does know is that he needs her help and since she does not want to marry her violent betrothed decides to help him find his mother. The two find themselves with several obstacles to overcome not limited to Rhys trying to fit in and Maggie on the run from her intended. The chemistry between the two continues to grow during their search and Rhys becomes very protective of Maggie.
I just love travel travel adventures. This is just the first book in the series and it was fantastic. The excitement and anticipation had me on the edge of my seat and I could not wait to see what was going to happen next. I look forward to the next book in the series and read about what Greyson’s story will be.

Rhys McCaim is a billionaire in modern day New Orleans and his Mother went missing years ago, but he doesn’t believe for one minute that she is or ever was a time traveler. His father believes otherwise and insists that she never left them willingly, but was pulled back through time to medieval Scotland. But then when Rhys and his three brothers test out and ancient time traveling spell never expecting anything to happen Rhys is unbelievably dragged back through time right to medieval Scotland. Suddenly he is amongst some of the strongest men and history and rather shocked at having to become one himself. What he really needs is to get back home to modern day New Orleans, but first he’s got to find his Mother although he has no idea where to start. Luckily fate being as fickle as she is has dropped him right into the lap of the perfect guide. She’s feisty, brilliant, bold and oh so beautiful and he’s drawn to her like a moth to flame. But can he really afford to have a human distraction of this magnitude?
Maggie Irvine is betrothed to an evil man in 1286 medieval Scotland. Maggie knows marrying him will restore her family’s reputation and has resigned herself to that fact. However when a mysterious stranger magically appears in front of her, her plan, and the strangers life are in jeopardy. The only way to save him is to walk out on everything she has ever known and as she comes to learn the shocking truth of what he hides, Maggie will discover what is the truth and what are lies.
With the knowledge of the future, Rhys possesses the ability to alter history, but to do that he’s got to let Maggie past the defenses he’s spent his life building and maintaining. Now, an alliance that started out because of desperation becomes as necessary as breathing is to live.
Will they be able to overcome the problems that will present themselves along the way and change history or will it become way too dangerous for the both of them?
Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca are absolutely brilliant. This book was adorable. I felt like I was invited and given a special seat to watch a great love unfold that never would have happened if it wasn’t for fate and the fae. Maggie and Rhys were so adorable. She’s pert, sweet, and feisty, and he’s strong, rough, and loving. This book had me from the get go and I was utterly enchanted with the lives of these precious people. It’s seems Ms. Johnstone and Ms. Mecca have broken into a new genre with one heck of a bang. Congratulations ladies. I can’t wait to read the next book.
Incredible beginning to the series!
Wow, this is a riveting story! A time travel romance that you can’t out down. Love, scandal, confusion, and lots of action. Book one of four, one brother ends up time traveling to see if he can find his mother. He finds much more than he ever expected.
This is a page turner you don’t want to miss!
Billionaire shipping magnate Rhys McCaim and his three younger brothers think their father is losing his mind from grief since their mother’s sudden disappearance five years ago. There’s no way she could actually be a displaced time traveler, snatched back to her own time in medieval Scotland. But when their father winds up in a coma, Rhys and his brothers start looking into their dad’s time travel theories and notes more seriously, even testing out a chant themselves. When Rhys suddenly finds himself in 13th century Scotland, he can’t deny the truth of his father’s ramblings any longer. Now he’s an oddball highlander in a country on the edge of war and he knows he must return to his own time with all due haste, but first his must find his mom. Rhys finds the perfect guide in the beautiful Maggie, but he knows he can’t lower his guard or allow himself to be distracted, despite the exceptionally new draw he feels toward her.
Lady Margaret Irvine is betrothed to a rather despicable English baron who only wants her castle. Though she doesn’t wish to, Maggie must marry him to restore some of her family’s good name and ensure better lives for her brother and sister. She’s resigned herself to a life of loneliness and an unhappy marriage, but when a handsome stranger literally pops up out of thin air, all her plans are thrown awry. To save his life, Maggie must risk everything and take a path that will render her future very uncertain. This risk becomes even more real as she begins to fall for Rhys and dream of a new future with him, only to learn that the truth of him is even more complicated than she could’ve ever dreamed. With Rhys’ knowledge they could potentially rewrite Scotland’s bloody history, but only if he can bring himself to let Maggie in and doing so will leave him even more torn between his family and his heart’s desire.
I couldn’t put this book down. This was great writing and the pace was very fast, with enough stress to keep me invested (maybe too much so at times!). Rhys was a fantastic hero and I think Maggie was a great compliment to him. I can’t wait for the other brothers’ stories.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Sinful Scot is book one in the new time travel series Highlanders Through Time by Julie Johnstone. I think this book was very well written. It held my attention from the first chapter. The author managed to infuse quite a bit of history in her story without it coming across dry and stale. I think I have a crush on the hero Rhys McCain. Handsome, brave and yet gentle, Rhys is the man we all long for in our lives. I also liked the heroine Maggie Irvine. She is spunky without being cruel or sarcastic. “The sun was battling the thick, snow-laden clouds to break through the sky, and every once in awhile a slash of light would glow from above and shine down on Rhys. Her breath would catch all over again at how captivating he was, even in slumber. The dark shadow of the stubble he’d had when she’d met him a week ago had grown thicker, lending a more rugged appearance to his face. His cheekbones were more prominent than before, and she bit her lip the knowledge that he was likely not getting enough to eat. His ebony hair needed a washing, but she still wanted to plunge her fingers into it just to see what it felt like. She denied the urge, for one thing remained completely unchanged, even in sleep: he exuded dangerous power. And one did not awaken a wolf.” There are several steamy sex scenes expertly written by Johnstone. My only negative in the story is I found myself wondering about setting in a few scenes. Other than that, I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I was given a copy of this book.
Rhys McCaim and his brothers are very worried over their father’s health. So they search his study to find out what he has been doing. The truth will astound them and could change history. When our hero discovers that truth will he be able to do what he wants????
Maggie Irving has resigned herself to marriage to a man she doesn’t want. It’s the only way to provide for her family. The last thing she needs is to be caught alone with a stranger. But she doesn’t want him to die either.
This is the first book in the series and I’m already well and truely hooked. We get four sexy brothers to discover and enjoy their adventures.
I loved every page.
THIS. BOOK. IS. AWESOME!!! What a way to start a new series. Sinful Scot by Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca is book 1in the Highlanders Through Time series. This is a time travel story from Medieval Scotland to present. Both Julie & Cecelia are two of my favorite authors and if you asked which is my favorite I couldn’t say but put these two dynamic duo together and WOW…I am speechless. I can’t say enough about this book. What an amazing team they make and this book has me so excited for the the rest of this series. The characters are wonderful, the storyline original, it gives you the true feeling of being back in the 1200 Scotland. This story has a king’s death, traitors, innocents, a dying father, a love for a parent, believing, kidnapping, a forced marriage, kindness, never giving up, a hanging, protectiveness, a flogging and love. YOU HAVE TO READ THIS STORY!!! I highly recommend that you do!!!

My review :
When the present collide with a past, how can a woman and a man with centuries hanging between them find a way together.
This is my introduction read to Mrs Julie Johnstone’s work, and wow, why did I not read anything by her before…
I loved how she mixed past and present, the modern words incomprehensible for a medieval ear and how our own society’s rules do not apply in far away time.
And the switch of the heroine being swept in time to a man was a good change.
The prologue had me instantly on edge, I was sucked in the story and wondering at every twist and turn how hey will extricate themselves of the web of deceits and treason lurking around them.
Rhys is a modern man, son of a successful business owner and now managing it.
Still he was not exactly prepared to land in the XIIIth century, and while he had granted his mother’s wishes to learn Gaelic and medieval history, he never understood the why of her requests.
He is such an honorable man, why his dilemma during the whole story weighted on him so much. He can’t abandon his family back in 2020 but he is also torn about his growing attachment to Maggie, she moves something in him and he can’t find a way to go back to his time and be with her at the same time.
Maggie is a historical heroine as I love them, no badass woman but a woman of her time, weaker because of her lack of physical strength and the society’s limitations embedded since birth but also able to defend herself in her own way and at time refusing to allow the choices made for her to define her.
She is also clever and kind, accepting her mistakes and trying to right them but also able to listen and grab when she is facing a life changing moment.
I loved them together, each learning from each other, jointly they ride to a decisive experience.
This first book in a series while standing alone leaves me with the urge to read the next, to see what journey the McCaim siblings will embark in.
I was granted an advance copy of this book and preordered my own. Here is my true and unbiased opinion.

Sinful Scot
By Julie Johnstone
“She’d never thought she’d find such unimaginable love, but that was one confession she’d wait to whisper to Rhys when they were alone tonight lost in their own time.”
“He lowered his lips and pressed the whisper of a kiss to her neck. “There was never a chance it could be anything but forever with us, sweet wife of mine.” (Sigh……..) Every woman dreams of such a love.
Such an exciting Scottish tale by Julie Johnstone! Sinful Scot is a captivating Scottish historical time travel romance readers will love from beginning to end.
Ms. Johnstone has a magical way with words and descriptive detail. A great writer makes the reader jump inside the story and travel every step with the characters. That is exactly what I did with this story. I really loved this story. Beautifully written, it is a journey back in time. Such a beautiful love story. This is the kind of story you’ll want to read many times. I highly recommend Sinful Scot by Julie Johnstone.
I love time travel stories and I really enjoyed this one, especially since it’s the hero that comes from the future instead of the heroine which is the usual. Julie Johnstone does an excellent job of writing Rhys and Maggie’s story, using true historical facts and blending in her imagination with them. Imagine having a chance to alter history AND meet your ancestors!!
Rhys and his brothers have always thought their father’s brain was addled with his stories of their mother being from the past until they discover a spell and Rhys finds out the hard way that his father’s stories were true after all! When he finds himself in the year 1286 and not only does he come upon a beautiful woman, he also finds himself captured, flogged and thrown in a dungeon.
Maggie doesn’t know what to make of this man who suddenly appears next to her in the water as she’s taking a swim! When the evil Baron she’s betrothed to comes upon them, she’s horrified to see Rhys being dragged away. Blaming herself for that, she will do anything to free him and so their adventure begins….
Very well written and your thoughts will go from one way to another, thinking of what will happen if history gets altered and the consequences of it. Rhys needs to find his mother, needs to go back to his own time but yet he doesn’t want to leave Maggie behind. A must read and I’m now looking forward to the rest of this series!!
Wow!! What a Awesome story! I haven’t read a Time Travel novel for years but I Love Julie Johnston and Cecelia Mecca and thought to give it a try. I am so glad I did! Sinful Scot brings you through the dark and turbelent time between Scotland and England. It comes to life with all the danger, vengeance and strife as a web of deceit and deception is weaved in this action-packed adventure that will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat until the very end! It’s an unforgettable historical romance with a strong plot remarkable emotions, unforgettable characters, with setting descriptions and action sequences are wonderfully vivid which brings this read together perfectly. Rhys who is swoon worthy sexy is sent back in time to thirteenth-century Scotland looking for his mother when he meets Maggie who is bold and beautiful and with Maggie’s help he hopes to find his mother. With time running out, an evil fiance after Maggie and a violent situation developing for the Scottish throne Rhys and Maggie have to fight for their lives. It’s heart pounding story filled with sensual awakenings, drama, lies, heartbreak, secrets, trials and tribulations, turmoil and while the suspense builds and tensions escalate with the twist and turns abound that makes this one outstanding story! This is a great start to a fabulous series and cannot wait to continue reading the series about the other three!
This is my first time reading a time travel story and I was not disappointed. I usually skip this genre, but I love these authors. I downloaded the book through the free time on Kindle Unlimited and thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The plot was well-conceived. A lot of research on Scottish history was done and made the story more real. What a difference between 21st century America and 13th century Scotland. Rhys McCaim finds himself in Scotland in 1286 after reciting a time-travel spell he is skeptical about. He travels to a different land and a different time and stumbles into Maggie Irvine who guides him to his ancestral home. Rhys and Maggie are wonderful together, a connection that transcends time. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
I liked this book a lot. It had great characters that clicked right from the start, an interesting story, and some mild love scenes. I liked the time travel element. It’s got modern day things that happen combined with historical things and in this book, they were pulled together in a good way.
Rhys McCaim and his three brothers are concerned about their father’s mental well-being. Their mother, Shona, disappeared without a trace five years ago and their father hasn’t been the same. He’s now in a coma and the doctor recommended that their father have his loved ones talk to him in an effort to bring him around. They know he loved no one more than their mother and thought he was demented for believing their mother came from another time, but anything is worth a shot and that sends the four of them on a mission to get their mother back.
The scene where Rhys was sent back in time was done really well. It’s a good thing, not to mention done by design, that Rhys had taken college courses in Scottish history. He knew Gaelic and he knew how to ride a horse. His mother had insisted on some of this while he was growing up. I’m not sure she did the same with his brothers, but I guess I’ll find out as the series unfolds. Rhys didn’t know anything about how to wield weapons of that time, but he was a boxer and that helped him while he was in the past.
The first person Rhys encounters is Maggie Irvine and it’s moments after he emerges from the water. She’s swimming alone at night when he surfaces. He’s dressed strangely, doesn’t have the proper Scottish brogue, and is just different all around. He scared her and rightfully so, but she goes to great lengths to save him when he is declared the “Devil’s Hand”.
Okay, as much as I enjoyed this book, a couple of things jumped into my head while I was reading it. I understand that Rhys needed Maggie to believe that he was from the future, but he held the future of Scotland in his hands because he already knew what was going to happen. That’s some pretty awesome power. He could change history.
*He knew things, but did he have to tell her everything? Did he have to take that far?
*Did he not miss the conveniences of running water, having a car, or a telephone?
*He was wealthy in his time, too. Did he not miss all the comforts that brought?
*Could he, or anyone for that matter, really give it all up for love?
These are just a few questions that I thought of while I read this, but this is the first book of a series and there’s a lot to be revealed in the books that follow. This ain’t over yet.
I love books that make me think outside the box and this book definitely did this. I loved everything about it and am excited to read the next book in the series.
