This is the first book in a collaboration of Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca’s called Highlander’s Through Time. Books 1 and 3 are by Julie Johnstone and 2 and 4 by Cecelia Mecca. This series promises to be EPIC if book 1 is an example. They are both awesome authors and I can’t wait for brother number 2s story. I was so entranced by this book and it’s premise and characters, I could hardly put it down. It is so good you won’t be disappointed. I highly recommend this book. I was gifted this book and am voluntarily reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own. Five stars for this wonderful book.
Rhys MacCain is from the 21 century and he and his brothers are very well off, there are four brothers.Rhys is the oldest and Reikart, Ian,and Greyson are younger, they took over the company from their father.Their mother had disappeared from them and his father said she time travel back to her century, they felt their father was losing a grip on reality .Rhy had studied Scotland history in college, his mother insisted he learn because she was from 1286.His father got so sick trying to go back in time to find his Shona,he ended up in the hospital. The brothers finally believed their dad and holding a cross needed for time travel tried to go to back to find their mother. Rhys did go back and ended up in the ocean.Maggie Irvine was swimming in the evening ,she was supposed to marry a Baron Belliecote, who was much older than her and she didn’t want to marry h him.The Baron finds them together and said Rhys had touched her. Rhys is whipped and thrown in a dungeon.Maggie helps him escape and helps heal his wounds from the whipping. This is such a fabulous time travel story,i can’t say enough about the enjoyment I got from reading this wonderful story. There are so many directions they travel, and people they meet who turn out to be family. When I started book it caught my attention, when I finished I didn’t want it to end, i was caught up in Rhys and Maggie’s life. Can’t wait for the rest I the books to be released.I was given this ebook as ARC and I LOVED it All.Would recommend this book to everyone. Julie Johnstone books are the best.
This is the story of four sons of a shipping magnate and a woman from another time. The story begins in modern day New Orleans, which I love because it is familiar to me. The first son’s story is about Rhys McCaim. His father is seriously ill and his mom disappeared five years before. He ends up in medieval Scotland and he is soon swept up in life or death circumstances that he knows way too much about how things will happen. What will he do, how will he find his mom and what about the stunning Scottish lass that is helping him?
Ms. Julie Johnstone’s has written another winner. It is a “time travel” story. I have read some “time travel” stories that tried way too hard to make the point it is a “time travel” story that makes those stories annoying. This novel didn’t have any of that. Thank goodness!! Ms. Johnstone’s writing is easy and fun to read. She creates great characters that are well suited to their time and place, even if their place is in the future. The hero adapted well to being in the past. But it was fun to see the hero and heroine try to figure each other out and how they began to feel connected, Time be d**m. I liked some of the plot twists and I liked one secondary character very much too. The story moves along quite well. I finished the story much too quickly and I wanted more! Luckily, the next book in the series is written by Ms. Cecelia Mecca. She will continue the story of the next son.
I received an ARC for my honest opinion and review. To be honest, I love Ms. Julie Johnstone’s writing, plots and H/Hs. I think if you like Scottish heroes (even modern ones) and grand stories, you can’t go wrong with the Sinful Scot.
Fabulous time travelling story, Rhys McCaim and his brothers never never believed their father when he said that their mother who had been missing for five years had been sent back to the past, now his father is in a coma and the last thing he asks is for Rhys to find her. Back at home the brothers break into their fathers locked study and find a cross and an old tome of ancient chants, touching the cross and repeating the words sends Rhys back into time where he meets Maggie and saves her from a snake and not just a reptile, can he find his mother and escape the dangers he finds himself in and if he does, can they get back to his own time.
Loved this, it is an exciting page turning story, can’t wait for the next one.
I received a copy and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion
(Highlanders Through Time #1). This was a great read! Lots of adventure, suspense. I love all the characters including the hero & heroine of this story, Maggie and Rhys. I’m very excited to read the series as it comes out. It will be interesting to read about the rest of the brothers and what trouble they get into in Scotland.
The Sinful Scot is new time traveling romance by Julie Johnstone and Cecelia Mecca. They have done a phenomenal job with this story! So beautifully written. I literally did no adulting until I finished this book. I’m a huge fan of both authors and was super excited for this story.
Rhys McCaim is a wealthy billionaire living in 2020 New Orleans LA, he is 3 younger brothers and their father falls ill and slips in a coma. Their mother previously vanished 5 years ago and their father has been grief stricken ever since and believes she is from the 13th century and does everything in his power to try to find her. He falls ill and all the brothers are willing to try to find their mother to being him back. Even if they think his mind has slipped since their mothers disappearence. Rhys and his brothers find finds a chant and a cross his his fathers study among all of his research to find their mother. So what do they have to lose by trying it.
Only, Rhys is the only one the chant works for and is thrust back into the 13th century upon a startled Maggie. Beginning his & Maggie’s story. Now he knows his father was never losing his mind and his mother really is from the 13th century and he must find her and his brothers.
Maggie Irvine is betrothed to a man she does not care for but will do whatever needs to be done for her brother and sister to reclaim their family’s reputation. But when Rhys literally shows up out of thin air everything changes. The only way to save Rhys is to risk everything and she learns who Rhys really is. There is so much say without giving so much away. Trust me you want to read this story. I loved every second of Rhys and Maggie’s story. There was so much history and the plot was so beautifully executed. I’m dying to know what happens next with Greyson and the other brothers stories. I give this book 5 stars all the way while I anxiously await the release of The Sexy Scot! Thank you Julie and Cecelia this is now my new number 1.
Sinful Scot for me had a different twist from other time travel books I have read. It was not a totally random happening to an unknown and strange foreign place. Rhys ends up back in mideival Scotland looking for his mother who disappeared 5 years ago, not knowing if his 3 brothers also time traveled back too. I loved this book because the hero moved back, which is unusual, he is brave and strong, Maggie is also strong and helped Rhys as much as he helped her, and there are so many aspects of this book that held my interest to see what would happen next. Cannot wait for Greyson’s book next!! Loved everything about this book! I received a gift copy of this book and this is my true and honest opinion of this book.
Time Travel is one of my favorite paranormal genre. It is very tricky to write. Julie Johnstone did an amazing job. Rhys McCaim, along with his three brothers, are tormented for their dad. His dad is certain that their mother is from the past and was “taken” back some years before. Rhys’ father is now gravely ill and in a coma, insisting their mother needs saving. The four brothers are now determined to find her and while looking in their dad’s private study find everything that leads to the “time travel” possibility. Finding a cross and an ancient Gaelic chant the brothers follow the directions and poof Rhys is sent back in time. There he is determined to get to his mother’s family home but he needs help. Help comes in the form of Maggie. She herself needs help and the two work together. Even though the brawny Scot is really different and no way is she believing he is from the future….that is until the things he says will happen do indeed happen….Now they need to try to change history.
It is truly an amazing story filled with so much rich history. As with many time travel it does have a cliffhanger type ending and you will be hooked from the very beginning!
What a great start to this series! Time travel, intrigue romance and twist and turns. Looking forward to the next in this series!
This is the first in a new time traveling series by the wonderful Julie Johnstone & Cecelia Mecca. Rhys, the eldest of the four brothers & first of our heroes to find himself transported back in time. Always believing that his father had lost his mind after the disappearance of his mother some years before, Rhys along with his brothers break into their fathers office after he falls ill, where he finds his father may not be as mad as he thought. Maggie our heroine finds herself betrothed to a man she hopes will restore her family’s honor. Determined not to let her brother & sister down she takes one last late night swim, and this is when her & Rhys lives intersect and forever change. Like Rhys, the reader is transported back to the highlands of Scotland of old. Julie expertly take you on an adventure with twists and turns along the way with our hero and heroine ultimately finding love. Having not read time travel books before I was not sure want to expect, I have to say I really enjoyed the blending of new and old. I have loved Julie’s previous series on medieval Scotland so was looking forward to reading this and I was not disappointed. I highly recommend everyone to read, I am really looking forward to reading the others in the series and the collaboration of both authors is fantastic.
I have been so excited to read this book every since Julie Johnston & Cecelia Mecca started giving us hints about the series. I am not a Time Travel Book reader but I have read Julie’s Highlander & Regency book & loved all of them. I was absolutely hooked after reading the first few pages & I could not put it down until I turned the last page. Julie always creates characters you fall in love with & her stories pull you into the tale as if you are there.
Our present day hero, Rhys McCaim has been sent from 2020 New Orleans to thirteenth-century Scotland – he has come to find his Mother but has not idea where to begin. Someone must have been looking out for him because Maggie Irvine appears right in front of him. She is beautiful, smart & Rhys in instantly drawn to her like he has never been with another woman.
He needs her help in finding his mother, she needs his to get away from the evil baron she is being forced to marry, Scotland needs their help with the battles for the Scottish throne, Rhys know the future can they change the outcome, will he stay, will he find his mother? All the questions will be answer in this fantastic book & you will love the excitement, passion, lies & love!
I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book & all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
Great start to a new series! The authors do a fantastic job bringing strong, well developed characters with an intriguing and interesting story line. They blend past and present beautifully ,pulling you in with their detailed writing and vividly painted scenes, taking you back to the day in realistic fashion. I was glued to the pages reading Rhys and Maggie’s story and am looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
In the first book in this exciting series, Rhys finds himself traveling through time to attempt an intervention for his father, who is desperately trying to find a way to reach his missing wife. Landing in 1286 Scotland leaves Rhys bewildered, but not nearly as shocked as Maggie Irvine. This novel is exciting, fast-paced and takes the reader on an unbelievable ride through history. Rhys is a strong hero and despite his lack of training as a warrior, is quite able to defend both himself and Maggie. However, Maggie is just as protective of him and when the situation calls for it, the gentle healer does the unthinkable. The romance in this book builds slowly with both main characters feeling their way, aware of their differing cultures. When Rhys discovers at least one person who acknowledges that he is telling the truth, he is relieved to find he has support. Nevertheless, coming from 2020 makes it difficult for Rhys to make any claims in an era where any unusual occurrences are viewed as witchcraft and severely dealt with. However, fighting for Maggie’s love makes everything worthwhile. I received a copy of this well-written book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Imaginative, well thought-out story line and characters had some real depth. Very enjoyable, entertaining read.
The Highlanders through Time series is my first adult time travel novel read and my first introduction to Julie Johnstone’s writing. I have read the first three books of Cecilia Mecca’s historical fiction series, The Order of the Broken Blade and the first three books of her paranormal series, Bloodwite. I really enjoyed the adventure surrounding the couples in those stories, so I decided to give this brand new collaboration series that Cecilia Mecca is writing with Julie Johnstone a shot, even though I have never read anything by Julie Johnstone. Fortunately, I was not disappointed. The mixture of past and present flowed really well. The execution of the obvious confusion the medieval culture and future lingo would generate was crafted in a very realistic fashion. It felt natural and not forced.
I really got a kick out of the banter between the hero and heroine. The culture clashes were the icing on the cake that made the misunderstandings and confusion that more hilarious. Looking forward to more from these two writers regarding this story line really looks a promising adventure, may try out other writings by Julie Johnstone later on.
I am not always a fan of time-travel books, but this one really hit the spot! It is book one in a historical time-travel romance series and it really got off to a wonderful start. The story was very well-written and time travel can be difficult to write, in my opinion. The characters were well-developed, interesting and likable. It had a bit of suspense, because Rys had the task of finding his mother who had disappeared years ago. It had lovely romance and of course, highlanders. Very good book that will keep you interested right up until the end. I highly recommend this book.
