Sinclair Vinemont, an impeccable parish prosecutor, conducts his duties the same way he conducts his life–every move calculated, every outcome assured. When he sees something he wants, he takes it. When he finds a hint of weakness, he capitalizes. But what happens when he sees Stella Rousseau for the very first time?
Sinclair is a prologue to The Acquisition Series and is told entirely from … entirely from Sinclair Vinemont’s point of view. It can be read in one sitting.

Sinclair never understood as a child what his mother did. Now as an influential man about town he had it all. He got and did what he wanted. But now he only wanted one who he could torture and devour. Stella.
It’s been a couple of years since I read the Acquisition series. I remember getting this during the time I was reading the series, but I have since forgotten I had it. Well this past week I decide to make my Kindle sort by Author instead of recent. I plan on reading it from A-Z unless I read a series I want to continue and need to get the rest of the books.
So this was second on the top with a book I just DNF. I knew it would help break me out of a funk, because I have always loved Celia Aaron’s writing. Even though this is short, it would help kick my brain into gear.
“Her hateful gaze scorched me like a firebrand, and I wanted the burn. ”
Sinclair and Stella were one of the couples that helped me accept that I love dark romances and I don’t care what people think. So to go into when Sin first saw Stella before Counsellor opens up more of the dark side.
The story fills in on when Sin first sees Stella and when he starts harassing her father which we catch the tail end in the first book. Also shows the party in which the three families are chosen for the Acquisition.
I can’t believe I forgot how dark this went. It’s still in the top 10 Dark romance that I have read. Reading this made me remember the plot and what happened during the series. I did forget completely about the youngest brother. I also forgot how detached Sin was in the beginning before he fell for Stella. How he looked on people lower than him. But that was all his mother.
I thought for a little bit that I should reread this series, but after reading this I think I will give a reread a pass
This book is synonymous with the ‘gawker syndrome’ or ‘rubbernecking’. You know, the attraction to the morbid. This series starts out with the usual human trafficking by the almighty, but what transcends is something terrifyingly morbid. Throughout the whole series, my thoughts are leaning towards a tragic ending, even though, in the middle of all this inhumane behavior, love springs forth. This is to give us hope. Hope that is given in one chapter only to be taken away in the next. It’s money, obscene amounts of old money, privilege and coveting. These three things combined can create the most macabre scenarios but you just have to look, to keep reading, to see what horrible act will top the last.
Good read for someone with an open mind.
So I have to confess I have read Sinclair (Acquisition #0.5 ) by Celia Aaron backwards. I read the Acquisition series quite a while back, only discovering I should have started with this after.
So this little morsel has been sitting on my TBR pile for ages.
Problem is when you know how the story progresses it’s like a huge spoiler alert blinking at you.
Then I read Celia’s Incubus and this just happened to be a freebie at the end, so I was out of excuses.
So This is short and sweet, of novella length.
It’s basically a brief intro to set the stage for the upcoming series.
So Sinclair gives us a peek into his head, what makes him tick and it’s not a pretty picture to behold.
Told from his POV we get to see Sin in all his arrogant glory and he comes across as a grade A tit, an over-privileged stick up his bum douche.
Should just say That I Was kinda expecting that considering I knew how this series plays out.
We don’t really get to see much of Stella here, that comes later, as I believe, correct me if I’m wrong, that the following books are told from her POV. (It’s been a while)
So as I mentioned earlier Sinclair set’s the stage hoping to draw us into reading Councillor.
Does this do that? Well, I did enjoy this but it didn’t blow me away.
If I was considering reading the whole series, well I’m not sure this would have done that, it was just average.
But don’t let that put you off the Acquisition series makes for some brilliant fiction, it’s honestly up there with my favourites. and I read a lot so that’s quite a feat.
I’m even considering a re-read of this if I can fit it into the books I want to have another go at Pile (there’s a few on that one as well)
So that’s all folks, hope you give this ago it’s a small snippet that leads into a fabulous series.
