“Lehane is the master of complex human characters thrust into suspenseful, page-turning situations.” —Gillian Flynn
Since We Fell follows Rachel Childs, a former journalist who, after an on-air mental breakdown, now lives as a virtual shut-in. In all other respects, however, she enjoys an ideal life with an ideal husband. Until a chance encounter on a rainy afternoon causes that ideal life to fray. As does Rachel’s marriage. As does Rachel herself. Sucked into a conspiracy thick with deception, violence, and possibly madness, Rachel must find the strength within herself to conquer unimaginable fears and mind-altering truths. By turns heart- breaking, suspenseful, romantic, and sophisticated, Since We Fell is a novel of profound psychological insight and tension. It is Dennis Lehane at his very best.

any Lehane book is great
Love me some Lehane
So sloooow. Couldn’t even finish it. More recent books just don’t compare to his early novels.
Loved this book! Lots of twists, so much fun to read. I wish the author would write more like this!!!
Like all of Dennis Lehane’s books, this was one I hated to put down, and hated to see end. He truly is a master storyteller who always manages to tie everything together and leave the reader satisfied with the conclusion.
As he often does, he threw in some twists. He is amazingly skilled at throwing out red herrings (or are they?) and then showing you that they were important to the story. Every time I think he is going to disappoint me with some far fetched part of the storyline, he ties it up with a nice bow as if to say ” I know you are paying attention, and here is where it pays off”
Already looking forward to his next story……….
I’ve enjoyed all of Dennis Lehane’s books, but Since We Fell is even better than I expected it to be. If you enjoy mystery and suspense, it’s a must-read!
See my review in The Washington Independent Review of Books: http://www.washingtonindependentreviewofbooks.com/bookreview/since-we-fell-a-novel
This book continues Lehane’s legacy of unique plots, compelling characters and can’t put it down/hate for it to end stories!
Disappointing
Even though families may be pulled apart by money, they can still be there for each other no matter the circumstances. They can help each other to see what is really in front of them, whether they care to open their eyes or not. When the situation seems to cause you to be”stuck” with what might be, maybe simply moving on can release you to your future.
Boring
The ending was a bit of a ‘wrapper ‘ as it seemed to leave it open for a sequel. The ending was a bit contrived and too speedily written. It was a shorter story than usual so the ending for me was a disappointment. The story itself was good until the final chapter
Lehane never disappoints!
Very suspenseful with a twist in the end. Dennis Lehane does not disappoint!
Loved this book. Best ever for author.
Dennis Lehane does two things extremely well, and there are several levels of each of those things. The first is that he’s imaginative and develops one-of-a-kind stories. Next, he tells those stories amazingly well. His writing is intelligent and gripping, and the characters come alive on the pages of his stories.
This is my first Dennis Lehane read. Held my attention until about half way, wasn’t sure where it was going. Boom ! The pages practically turned them selves; the 2nd half was turned up the heat.
I really liked the description of panic disorder. I felt like I was in the character although simplistic approach to treatment. Very good read. Different from Lehane’s usual noir style
Excellent as always
Positively awful
