The fifth installment in the Amazon Charts and Top 5 Kindle Store Bestselling Demigods of San Francisco series!
One thing has become incredibly clear to Alexis and Kieran, if they hope to last in the arena of Demigods, they’ll need a more robust defense team.
They must take two incredibly dangerous journeys, seeking the prized talents other Demigods would kill for. Except, there is a reason … there is a reason other Demigods don’t have these magical workers–they are as ruthless as they are dangerous, and the last thing they want is to be on a Demigod’s team.
If that isn’t enough, Alexis has received an invitation from Demigod Lydia, the only Hades Demigod who hasn’t openly declared war. She’s talking like they could be allies, but those of Hades cannot be trusted. A trap is just as likely as a handshake. Still, it’s a chance they must take.
Any one of these trips could be their last, but to back down would be the most dangerous of all.
more
This left me on such a high that I can’t wait to start the next book – though I’m equally gutted that it’s the last one in the series. I’m not sure if I’m ready to let Lexi, Kieran, Bria, the Six, Daisy and Mordecai go just yet. I was captivated from the first line to the last, sneaking reads in any spare moment I had and reading late into the night to finish it. Of course I instantly regretted not taking my time to savour each moment, regretted not stretching the reading experience out as long as possible. I could live in this world, would live in this world given half a chance.
The complexities of the plot and the sudden twists held me spellbound, every single reveal was totally plausible but I never found myself guessing them because is a master of misdirection, having me look in totally the wrong direction. Lexi’s realisation regarding the “shadow man” at the end was a real shocker, as was the unexpected pronouncement/promise by Magnus. Every mention of Jack still breaks my heart a little and I’m still holding out for some kind of miracle on that one.
I really felt the love between Kieran and Lexi in this one, it was shown in so many little ways. Subtle hints, small gestures, passing touches all built a picture of utter devotion. My favourite scenes were always those that included Daisy and Mordecai, the latter was a little sidelined and I needed more of him, but this pair light up every scene they are in. We also get to meet some great new characters and some heinous villains, all of whom add depth and richness to the story.
Fast paced, exciting and jam packed with a tumultuous range of emotions I don’t think this book could have been any better.
I wasn’t sure I could like this series any more than I already do, but this the fifth book, is tremendous! Kieran desperately wants allies and unusually strong magic users for a show of force for the next magical summit, the first one he’ll attend as the unofficial leader of his deceased Demigod father’s territory. The first part of the story centers on trying to find and recruit powerful magic users with unusual gifts who prefer to be left alone and don’t particularly care if they hurt someone who’s trying to get to them. Then Kieran attempts to forge an alliance with one of the powerful Demigods of Hades. It goes horribly wrong – or does it? This is a taut, tense story with new characters added to the original cast. The terrific, often witty dialog, with laugh-out-loud moments, and the quirky but fascinating characters are the icing on the cake of a wonderful book and series.
Honestly this world, Alexis, Kieron, Daisy, Mordecai, Bria, the 6 and it’s two new additions. They are everything. I’ve talked about character development and world building in every review but it still stands true in book 5. This world and these characters are ever evolving and growing into something more. The depth, the emotion… Everything just fits without being over done and without unnecessary angst.
Kieron and Alexis’s connection shines through here but so does the chemistry between all of the characters as a whole. They work together in a way that makes you think they’ve been doing it their whole life instead of the reality. The banter, the bickering, the absolute outrageousness just adds to the connection they have. Despite it being otherworldly it’s still relatable. Those crazy friendships, that sibling rivelery. The need to protect the ones we love. It all makes sense. It’s felt right. Plus I just laughed so hard my stomach hurt through most of it.
This one is my favorite. I loved the way their journey unfolds. The action, the suspense the climactic build into the unknown and the very unexpected surprises. I was consumed by all the feels. And the ending?.. I mean is it possible to ball and laugh at the same time because I was.
Ahh. I’m not ready for this world to end. I’m moving on to the last book feeling so sad that this is it because I’ve loved this world and these characters. But I’m also impatient to find out about Magnus and what’s he’s about. There is still some questions that need to be answered and I have a feeling some big revelations are about to be made. So.. I’m begrudgingly because I don’t want it to end moving on to the last book. But I’m also excited.
This series needs to be read in chronological order. It won’t read right if you don’t. It won’t even make sense.
‘Sin & Lightning’ is book five in K.F. Breene’s Demigods of San Francisco series. This is continues on from ‘Sin & Spirit’. This book is told in multiple POVs, Alexis, Kieran and Dylan.
With a request from Harding, Alexis and Kieran must gang alliances and grow their elite if there is any chance of keeping everyone safe and protected. The Hades Demigods want Alexis for her power, and with the upcoming Summit Kieran is being questioned. Making alliances and gaining trust with other Magicals isn’t going to be easy and it’s going to take everyone working together to succeed.
This book has lots of ups and downs, twists and turns, all wrapped up in mystery and surprises. There is many positives to say and praise in this book. I love the characters so freaking much, each one of them bring something unique to the story. Their quirkiness, humour, strength and family values are so exceptional and a wonderful things to witness. The storyline with all its drama, angst, mystery, secrets and steam will have you turning each page with anticipation.
From the beginning Alexis has been thrown in to one problem after another, as long as she is with Kieran and the Six with a few extra additions they are stronger together and will come out of it ok.
I can’t wait to see how things are going to work out for everyone.
A sense of family
If I could give it 10 stars I would, seriously, KF Breene just keeps getting better and better. A crew of misfits that are as close as family and it seems have added 2 more to the ranks. The kids got handed their ass but then got really weird help. Its It’s been a wild ride so far and I’m sure the last book will be the craziest.
Lexi, Kieran and the rest of the rebels are back with a bang. There is still much skulduggery afoot and Kieran’s trying to get to grips with all the politics of being the guy in charge!
Bria & Red go behind Kieran’s back to get the job done, whilst dragging along a needed, but left clueless for a reason, Lexi. Daisy continues in her education of being a human badass, with mighty sticky fingers. She does however do such a…NICE thing for someone she doesn’t have too, I kinda smiled and cried and little. That girl does have a heart, it’s just armoured, locked in a safe and hidden in an underground vault!
The gang are in a recruitment drive and there are two humungous cats that seem to not want to leave! I’m loving all the craziness and chaos. You’re never quite sure where the treachery is g0ing to come from, some are kinda benign and some are downright Machiavellian.
My heart breaks a little at every interaction with their fallen comrade and I hold out hope that he gets resurrected in book 6, but I’m not holding out much hope ;(
Whew, that was a ride. Alexis and Kieran must expand their forces prior to the magical summit, and it doesn’t exactly go as hoped. In each struggle, though, we continue to see their family pull their strengths as one to overcome.
I loved the new characters we met (well, most of them, in any case), and how we saw the impact that our current inner circle has on outsiders. Waiting for the final book’s release in a month’s time is going to be torture. Each book in this series has been such a pleasure to read that I can’t wait to see how it all comes to an end.
Big fan of KF Breene, and this is probably my favorite series from her. However you really want to start with book one in the series, and it is well worth it since they are all terrific. Ms Breene is an excellent write who paints word pictures that take you away.
This was the fifth book in series but really it still gets better and better and I can’t stop wanting to read more of it. It was another undownputable book and you can imagine how hard it was to read it only during the short breaks at work!! Impossible but I had to wait for another scene every 2 hours and so on. Torture! But so was everything happening to Lexi and Kieran’s crazy crew, which is also family by choice not blood, and it’s growing, and that makes everything more loveable. I loved every minute spent in this book, loved those fantastic people, unconditional love between them and bravery to face whatever is coming in their way and win over.
Now waiting again for the next installment not so patiently, just saying!
What’s not to love …
I can’t imagine that I will have anything to add that hasn’t all ready been said about this series. Love the characters and the world building. Can’t wait for the last book to be released.
This book is great. The entire series is one of my favorite. When I was done with this book (after rereading the previous books in the series), I missed the characters. I wanted to be part of their world again and was very tempted to reread the entire series again. I highly recommend this book and series. The characters are great. Makes me want to be part of their group. Lots of action.
This book was lightning, rock moving, power driving excitement. I could not put this book down. It was like the magic in it stuck my hands to my kindle. I breathed every word this book had.
This book starts out on a adventure. It is time for them to build their team for the summit and to keep Alexis safe. Everyone wants her and Kieran worries that he will not be able to do that with his small army. We watch the love grow between them as the book moves on. They are trusting each other to know what to do.
Lexie’s “kids” are growing leaps and bounds also. They do not disappoint in adding a extra level to the story. I am also glad to see Jake is still around. Although it is sad to see him learning to be there in spirit. It was good to see our regulars and see them get into the action some. I like to see how their magic works together and what they are capable of. We met a few new players in this book. I am intrigued on how they are going to work.
I wonder how we are going to end the series. Are we going to dig into Lexie’s back ground and learn something about her parents? Are we going to see her dad step in and change to help her? Is Daisy going to be a spin off when she is older? I mean there are so many endless questions and places this next book can go.
I know I am getting a good book when I pick up anything from this author. She knows how to make words come alive. I loved every minute of this book. I don’t want to see this series end but know that how ever it does this author is going to end it with a big surprise that we are going to love.
Reading this book was like meeting up with your slightly crazy relatives who you only see a couple times a year , its never dull , somethings always happening & you know they attract drama like light attracts moths .This time we have a couple of trips that gains unexpected allies & an ally that gets their arse kicked when daddy decides no one picks on his little girl . A total crash course on how to make friends & piss off people , espicially the ones who underestimate you, you will not be able to put this book down once you start & the end will leave you gagging for more , can’t wait for June .
Excellent.
Just as I think this series can’t get any better KF proves me wrong. She always blows my mind with this world and the characters she has brought to life. I could not put it down as their banter and quirks make them more endearing. It is a fun read with times of heartache but it is one story you do not want to miss out on. There is plenty to get you lost in the story, with a little mystery and suspense, action and danger and humour that is the absolute best.
K.F. Breene still surprises us after four books. This time, Alexis, Kieran, the wards, and all the entourage take out our breath. The brilliant writing, so vivid, that the scenes are easily created in our brains. But as always, apart from all they went through, the message is clear, they are stronger together, and love and friendship are their guides. Wandering what we will face next.
Yessssssss!
I love this series and Sin & Lightning is so perfect. As always, there’s crazy amounts of humor throughout the entire book. The characters in this series keep getting better and better and I absolutely love the new additions. The action is so exciting and I love learning about the powers of all the characters, especially seeing Alexis’ in action. Honestly, this is one of my favorite book-worlds of all time and I absolutely love where the storyline is going. These books keep getting better and better and I cannot wait for the next book, and I really hope it’s not the end there!
I know I said it last time, but this series just gets better and better. Sin and Lightening is my favorite yet. We get to catch up with Keiran, Lexi, and the gang. We get new character to love, hate, and be utterly confused by. The plot is action packed and very well written. It’s funny, worrying, romantic, and absolutely lovely. It’s a step up in everyway and it makes me crazy excited for Sin and Surrender!
This fifth book in the series is showing a little bit of a shifting focus, and I love that! New faces are coming into the gang and a little less time is spent on the original gang, but I feel that in the evolving story line, that is totally the right direction to take. All the amazing action and absolutely awesome witty banter is still in full effect. I love the snark that goes on in these books so much! The steam factor is still going strong as well for Alexis and Keiran. Those new faces coming into play? I think Keiran may have some competition for my top book boyfriend now! Overall, I love the way this story is coming along and there’s a couple little surprises thrown into this book that I screamed over! I cannot wait for the next (and hopefully a bunch of spin-offs)!!
Another thrilling read to add to this series from K.F. Breene, as Kieran, Alexis and the rest of the team try to build the best team they can for when the Demigods all meet… a fantastic read full of adventure, excitement, magic, danger and banter!!
Alexis is still bumbling along in the magical world not knowing the rules, regs and etiquette, so when she drops a clanger she gets away with it, but makes her look foolish! It’s all part of the charm that Kieran loves her for, but she still feels useless and wants to help out while he is busy at work recruiting and stuff.
Harding lets her know about the two possible new recruits to the team, as well as dropping off 2 very large and probably magical cats at the house! So Alexis sets about recruiting 2 incredibly talented but extremely dangerous level 5’s! Alexis also gets an invite from the Demigod Lydia to go and meet at her palace, a friend or a trap, they will find out!
It’s like 3 little stories all rolled into one and I loved it!! Alexis is still learning about her magic and her limits, she still has a shadow ‘friend’ who is helping her whilst in her ‘ethereal’ state, she thinks she knows who it is, or does she?!
The the Six are just as awesome as ever, seeing Jack trying to help out in his ghost form was great but heartbreaking at the same time. The kids are growing up, Daisy even more so in this one, as you get to see just how her mind works, she’s an evil genius that girl!
The camaraderie, friendship, loyalty and love that this team have and work with really shows in this one, that unique blend that makes them different, especially Kieran, he’s not the usual stuck up Demigod as people expect.
Lots of twists and turns in plot to keep you on edge, quite nail biting with Alexis and her magic, so powerful yet still so much to learn! Love and hot passion from Kieran and Alexis, who just melts when he enters the room still! I love the banter and the ‘family ness’ when they are all together in the house, and then how they all just work as a team and pull together for one another when needed, powers and magic flowing!!
Very entertaining and another unmissable read in this series.
