KF Breene’s writing is funny and engaging. The main character in this book is easily likable and relatable. Kieren is complex and mysterious as a love interest.
I was so excited to start a new series by K.F. Breene and I was completely sucked in by the cover and the title. And the story was every bit as good as I expected. Definitely a must read for any paranormal magic lover out there!
This whole series was such an engaging read. I read the 1st two books and can’t wait for book 3 to come out in March.
A well-written story with a refreshing plot, including well rounded and intriguing characters. I couldn’t put it down. The twits in the story kept me fascinated. The world building is fantastic. Definitely a must read!
Fabulous new paranormal romance with fresh characters. Alexis is the perfect complex woman. On the outside, she’s a damsel in distress. Her life appears bleak and difficult. But look deeper and it becomes clear she’s clever and powerful. Kieran, the demigod, is equally layered: arrogant and commanding, but compassionate and fiercely loyal. He is harbouring a deep and sorrowful secret. Who will end up rescuing whom?
I’m in love!
I’m tired from not getting any sleep (couldn’t put the book down); I have a killer book hangover (thanks a lot K.F.!); and I have a new book boyfriend. Scratch that, I have a new series obsession.
Anyway, about this wonderfully addicting book. It start’s off like any normal book might, in a world with a weird mix of magical creatures. Only, K.F. escalated the plot almost immediately with Alexis nearly getting run over by what turns out to be a very stalker-ish Demigod. Don’t worry, I’m not spoiling anything here. Long story short, he’s hot (duh, he’s basically a god) and a little crazy. And the chemistry between these two had me on the edge of my proverbial seat the ENTIRE book!
Let me fast forward a bit though, in my real life timeline. I got ready for bed – couldn’t put the book down while doing so- climbed into bed (yep, still reading), managed to wake my husband up about 3 times by laughing so hard, and finally fell asleep at 2 am, wishing I had read slower, or re-read chapters just to make it last a little longer.
If you haven’t read anything by K.F. Breene, here’s a little something you need to know. Her books will suck you in, make you feel every emotion, and spit you out on the other side. You’ll be left not knowing if the emotions you’re feeling are really supposed to be there. All day the plots and characters will stay with you. You may even feel like you belong in her world more than your own for a day or two. That’s ok, it happens to the best of us, really.
I’ve gone way off track here, so let me just circle back and say, whatever your hesitation is for not reading this book yet, get past it and give it a shot. You’ll enter a world you’ll never want to leave, and feel like the characters are a part of your family now.
KF Breene, in my opinion, is a master at creating irresistible characters that draw you into their worlds so completely that you feel like you’re living the story with them. This book is no exception. I loved the interaction between Alexis and the two teens she rescued, Mordie and Daisy. Their dialog had me laughing out loud in places. The story is set in an unusual world and is told from the point of view of the female lead character who trying to keep her head down and eke out a living and protect a couple of street kids she picked up in the shadowy world between the human and fae. The story and world building are good and the characters are riveting. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series!
This is a great book to put your feet up and get comfy before opening, because this story will draw you in. Imagine being able to hear, see and talk to ghosts, of course people will just see you talking to air. Alexis is poor, has two wards and just manages to get by. She has also, much to her dismay, managed to attract the attention of Demigod Kieran. Each has something the other wants. This is a great story, with lovable characters and an imaginative plot, This book has action, ghosts, danger, magic, powerful Demigods, romance and lots of humor.
Holy moly, K.F. Breene does it again with the start of this new series! I was hooked from the first chapter and absolutely hated to put the book down! What an amazing story. A female lead with a lot of snark and sass takes on a demigod who reluctantly has the hots for the heroine. I laughed so hard a couple of times I was crying and getting dirty looks from my son. This isn’t an ordinary run of the meal paranormal story. The storyline is well developed, highly entertaining, & combines paranormal romance with mythology. The characters are likable and believable. Besides the main characters, I really, really liked the support characters. They were so much fun! I’m so looking forward to the next book!
This is the kind of book that you just can’t put down. The kind you read when you’re waking up/showering/getting dressed/eating/walking the dog. Trust me:you do not want to miss this demigod dilemma—it’s another favorite from K.F. Breene!
First in new series by this author.
Alexis is living under the radar. Taught by her mother to keep a low profile…for her safety and that of her inherited wards..Mordacai a insightful but seriously sickly shifter and Daisy a hard talking punk ass girl. As someone who can communicate with spirits she has the lowest of ‘ratings’ on the magic scale… and she is happy with that..it makes lying to the magic assessors so much easier..
But after an encounter with a Ferrari, a blanket and a sexy swarthy stalker she finds herself being forced out of her comfort nook. Kieron is the son of the san Francisco’s Demi god..and is a semi god himself, after meeting Alexis..he knows without a doubt she is the one who can help him… wether she wants to or not!
Wow this book… I freaking loved it! It sucked me in from the first page… anything to do with gods and mythology really gets my book worm motor revving hard!! And this book has a wonderful mix of both. That intrigued me and kept me guessing.
I loved how relatable and realistic Alexis was, her daily struggles with money and looking out for her wards, was easy to appreciate and gave the story an extra layer of ‘awww’ that wouldn’t have been their if the kids and Alexis’ financial situation wasn’t so dire.
I really enjoyed the interactions between the three of them…their family unit was so great and I loved the banter between sassy shit talking Daisy and straight laced studious Mordacai.
I loved and hated the slow burn build up between Kieron and Alexis…I mean come on… I wanted a bit more action!!! She’s 25… im..never mind… but we’re all adults here!! Despite a lack of physical interaction there was some serious sparks and chemistry burning between these two!
I’m loved that Alexis was reluctant to learn and develop and even use her powers… which are totally kickass!!! Her spy network cracked me up!
I’m looking forward to seeing how alexis’ and Mordacai’s powers and abilities come to use and ultimately how all of the charachters develop and grow within the next book in this series.
I LOVED everything about this story! I went In hesitantly and came out extremely pleased! The characters are superb! The story divine!
Alexis and her wards just cracked me up! I could listen to their antics all day!
I did listen to this on audio. The narrator is new to me but I loved listening to her bring these characters to life! Next please!
No body
Fun story. I was recommended these books to read and dived in without actually seeing what they are about. Three books deep I figured I should review the first three before moving onto the 4th. But lord they just consumed me.
I love books that have depthy characters. Ones with personalities that jump out of the pages at me. That intrigue me and make me want to know more. This book has that and then some.
Alexis is so unique. She’s a conundrum. Something that doesn’t quite add up. Those around her underestimate her because what they see is a poor girl, poorly dressed with a sharp tongue and zero interest in changing that. She’s strong inside and out. She’s protective of those she cares for and she cares deeply despite trying to appear not to. She’s never had anything go right for her and yet she does everything to give her kids a better life. She’s the embodiment of grace and selfless. I loved her hard.
Kieran the demigod has an agenda that much is clear from the beginning. But even he has a weakness for the woman who tests all his boundaries. He’s a strong leader, ruthless and cunning but under that is a sweetness that cuts through. His vulnerability, his need to do what’s right it’s a thing of beauty. Mix him and Alexis together and it’s magical, literally and figuratively.
This story is masterfully crafted in a way that completely consumed me. I felt like I was transported into this world with all the weird and wonderful seeing everything I was reading like I was living it. The character development is perfect. They grow and evolve throughout the story and despite the fiction side of it.. they’re relatable characters. So it was easy to believe in their journey, to feel their pain to understand the struggles. Their journey is rocky and unpredictable at best. No part easy for any of them but what a ride it was. Talk about great world building.
I loved everything about this book. I laughed, I ranted and raved throughout and even gasped a time or two at the crazy and unexpected of it all. The relationship between all the characters is really something special. The unique bonds that bind them all gave me all the feels in so many different ways. I can’t wait to see where this series go and where the characters take me. This is just the beginning, but what a start it is.
I like that K.F. Breene puts magical people into a modern day setting without making it weird and completely altering reality. She also brings in elements of mythology and shifters and other magical beings and found a way to successfully make them exist in a single world. I’m excited to see how they continue to interact with and change one another as the series progresses.
‘Sin & Chocolate’ is book one in K.F. Breene’s Demigods of San Francisco series.
After read Ms Breene’s Darkness series and falling in love with Stefan & Sasha, I just knew I had to give this series a go. This authors ability to create such spectacular and unique worlds with characters that have wonderfully addictive, strong and witty personalities is skill that needs to be praised and acknowledged. So well done and a highly expl*sive start to a series.
Alexis is deep poor doing everything she can to take care of her two wards that the world had given up on. Being a magical living in a dual-society zone (where people with and without magic live) with a magical and non-magical teens to take care of means staying under the radar and not cause trouble. Having to make sacrifices to make sure to be able to afford the medication needed for Mordecai means wearing shoes that are old, ratty and full of holes. But being poor with no spare change doesn’t mean her life is horrible, she just needs to dream small. So when a Demigod almost runs her over and her life is turned upside down, and having the life she had is never going to be the same again. Especially when the Demigod doesn’t just want her magic abilities he wants her as well.
Now I am going to say this right off from the start, I do NOT condone to stalking. Ok! But I wouldn’t mind having a certain sexy Demigod following me and trying to help, even if it is a manipulative.
This is one heck of a start to a series, I had no idea what to expect when I went in and I’ll tell you this I was not disappointed. Although it is the start there is a lot of explaining and overload of information and backstory that needs to be explained. I still thoroughly enjoyed the flow of the story. The characters all bring a little something unique and wonderful to the story and dynamic flow.
Alexis puts up a strong front with being the “mother” figure to her wards. She is a character that is going to grow on you, I wasn’t sure about her at the beginning. I felt that she allowed Mordecai and Daisy control and tell her what to do to much, I understand that in their house it’s a democracy, but they are 15 & 14 year olds… I’m hoping that in the next book she has a really character growth.
Kieran will irk and annoy you in the beginning. But his character is a little misunderstood, very closed off and careful to open up and trust people he doesn’t know. The guy has mummy and daddy issues so give him a bit of a break. He try’s to do right by Alexis, Mordecai and Daisy but it’s misguided and manipulative. His six though, will you over in no time.
I can’t wait to see what’s next for Alexis and Kieran, I’ve enjoyed this book and hope that the series continues to intrigue me as this book has.
Alexis will do anything to protect herself and her wards, and stay hidden in the cracks of the dual society zone (the zone between the magical and non magical zones).
Kieran will do anything to help free his mother, who has been trapped by his father (whose radar he is hoping to avoid). Including bribing Alexis to help.
Kieran and Alexis run into each other quite a few times, and he tries to use his charm, money, and magic to make her help him. Alexis can’t figure out why he needs her, and why someone else can’t do it. Why should she help a stalker free his mother? It’s not something she’s interested in. She’s stayed hidden for this long, why risk it all for a handsome stranger?
Pick up this first installment of the Demigods of San Francisco series. Kieran and Alexis are HOT apart, I can’t imagine how much hotter they will be together!
This is the first novel by K.F. Breene I have read. It falls in the urban fantasy/ paranormal romance genre which has been a favorite genre of mine for sometime. At first, I was very confused by the world Ms. Breene was trying to create. That made it difficult to get into the novel at first. Then I struggled with figuring out if her main character Alexis was magical trying to hide her abilities or non-magical trying to fake abilities. In time I came to not only understand Alexis but also admire her for her strength of will that made her refuse to be owned or desired for only her abilities. The sexual tension this causes between Alexis and the male main character, Kiernan, really adds to the suspense. Though I do wish for a little more steamy sex, the build-up to what must be a volcanic eruption when it does occur had me turning pages, late into the night. Which brings me to my final complaint, I am up reading to the wee hours of the morning only to get to the last page and find a cliffhanger! God I hate cliffhangers! Luckily, I don’t have to wait months to for Book 2 as it is readily available in Kindle Unlimited. Saved by Kindle Unlimited! I am hooked, so I will be reading book 2 and whatever follows! But have I told you how much I HATE cliffhangers. So it’s not the worst book I have ever read and in fact by the time I finished I loved Alexis and Kiernan enough to want to give it 5 stars. But I will stick with my original thought and give it a 4-5 star rating.
So I absolutely loved the vampire books by K. F. Breene. I bought the first book of this series looking for something the same, but different. That’s exactly what I got! I loved it!
I do have to admit that I had major doubts at the beginning. It opens with Lexi coveting a very expensive purse. So my issues were (1) I hate shopping and (2) I’m not a purse person. I have one purse that I use until I wear it out, and finding a new purse is always annoying.
So basically, I felt like I had nothing in common with the main character. (No, don’t point out the other things we don’t have in common like magic and wit.)
Also, Lexi takes care of two teenagers. I’ve probably mentioned how much I dislike books with kids. It’s usually a deal breaker, but the author does such a good job with making them fun and entertaining with their own personalities, and the kids actually added to the story. Yay!
I also had major doubts about Kieran. He was an overconfident jerk, which makes sense because he’s a demigod. But I was so not into him in the beginning. Then he started to grow on me. All the characters did.
This is such a great series. I just finished the third book, and it was exactly what I needed.
It’s a great start to a wonderful series. I loved it.
