Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.
Incredibly funny and poignant, this twenty-first-century coming-of-age, coming out story—wrapped in a geek romance—is a knockout of a debut novel by Becky Albertalli.

An adorable, breezy teen read. Simon is falling in love with the boy he’s been anonymously emailing — but he hasn’t yet told anyone that he’s gay. And now he’s being blackmailed by Martin, who wants to hook up with Simon’s friend Abby. PLUS there’s the school musical to deal with!
It took me a little while to get invested in the characters, but …
I went to see the movie first, which was frankly a bit of a disappointment and I had some real issues with parts of it (see this blog post https://gailcarriger.com/2018/04/30/this-is-why-gail-didnt-love-love-simon-some-alternative-options-miss-carriger-recommends/ ).
So it took me a while but I finally picked up and read Simon vs. the Homo …
I just finished a re-read of this book after tearing through it last year. Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda is a wonderful YA book that brought as much joy to this OA (older adult) as I am sure it does to the teenagers and other young people who read it.
Becky Albertalli does a wonderful job giving her characters–both teenaged and adult, both …
OMG this book was great. Every page of it, I read the book quite quickly because of how into it I was. I lost track of time and read for like 6 hours straight unlike the excellent characters in this book. I recommend the book to anyone but it is probably best you make sure you have some age on you lol. But I loved the book!
Great coming of age and finding yourself style story! Loved it!!
This is the same sex coming of age story I wish my best friend had growing up.
Simon vs The Homo Sapiens is one of my favorite books ever. It is full of love and emotion. As well as, coming to terms with who you are. I never thought that I would fall in love with Simon and Blue’s love story, but I did and I love it! Everything about this book was absolutely amazing. I can’t wait to read more of Becky Albertalli’s work.
This book is so freaking sweet! I am so in love with Simon and Blue!!
At first I wasn’t sure if I would like this book but after a few chapters I was already head over heels in love with Simon and Blue that I couldn’t stop reading.
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda is definitely a sweet and innocent story. It’s about Simon and Blue who are both …
An adorable YA about a closeted gay student, Simon, who needs to cope with a blackmailer and the torture of trying to discover the identity of his mystery penpal, “Blue”. I would recommend this book to everyone in the LGBTQA+ community as well as, well, everyone with a heart!
Simon logs onto to gmail from a school comp and doesn’t completely log out. The kid who uses the comp after him, reads all simon’s secret email’s and takes screenshots. This kid, Martin, blackmails Simon – either help me hook up with your friend or I post your emails on instagram. Unwilling to out “Blue” Simon begins helping Martin. Only Simon …
I do not know why it took me so long to find this book. It is set in Atlanta which was fun to hear the different locations from when we lived there. Simon has a great group of friends who support each other and show how to work through misunderstandings. Simon’s questions life and being true to himself, all important messages and life lessons. …
I read this whole book in one day! im not that much of a reader but when i picked up the book i could not put it down. This is amazing!
A sweet young adult romance from a boy’s point of view. Ideal book for gay youths to identify with.
A great, modern, love story between two strangers, two boys falling in love throughout emailing.
Love love love this book. Great story, fun characters and very moving. Also very inspirational and definitely helped me when I was dealing with the issue of self acceptance and coming out. Definitely recommend this book.
I had seen this book pop up on lists, but the title didn’t capture my attention. A student recommended to me and I read it because, well, how often does a kid ask you to read a book? I loved it and could clearly see why he enjoyed the book. The characters are adorable and the angst is relatable to every teen. Loved the book… not so much the …
4.5
So, WOW!!!!! This book is amazing. Talk about feeling real. I felt like these characters perfectly embodied your typical high school students, dealing with normal teenage issues.
“It is definitely annoying that straight (and white, for that matter) is the default, and that the only people who have to think about their identity are the ones who …
I know I’m so late but I finally got around to reading this one and I LOVED this book! It was funny and cute and entertaining. I couldn’t stop smiling at the end. It gave me warm fuzzies because it made me so happy to see that Simon had such amazingly supportive friends and family.
Simon is hilarious. I love that the whole book is from his POV. …
