“All hail the queens of Fantasy!”From NYT & USAT bestselling authors Shannon Mayer and Denise Grover Swank comes a new vision of supernatural suspense. Only these two authors could deliver two such complex heroines and their undaunted courage in a tale of unexpected twists of fate. Escape into the city that never sleeps and where nightmares live in the darkness with “Silver Staked”.My name … Staked”.
My name is Leah, and I am a Cazador. Trained to hunt and kill vampires over 300 years ago, my training became essential once I became one of those monsters.
The underbelly of the supernatural world has begun to bleed into the human world and journalist Rachel Sambrook, is asking too many dangerous questions. Unwittingly, she’s revealed a conspiracy I had hoped would never become a reality; using vampire blood for human experiments.
As I attempt to contain her, she’s by my side as the truth of just how deep the darkness goes is exposed. Unfortunately, the consequences have also brought forth the creatures that hide around every corner; thirsty for flesh.
The only question remaining is which one of us will survive the inevitable blood bath ahead?
SILVER STAKED was previously released under the title “Recombinant”

I really enjoyed this book. The main characters Lea and Rachel were very likeable, a kick ass vampire/Vampire hunter and a kick ass journalist. You try to piece things together only to be thrown off. One part was a little gruesome but it all had the right amount of action, suspense, suspicion.
There is a mild cliff hanger but not enough where you get frustrated about picking up the next book. You can stop here or continue.
I can’t wait to read book 2 though, I loved the suspense!
Two Strong Women, One Human The Other A Vampire!!
Silver Staked (The Blood Borne #1)
Rachel is a journalist on the trail of story. Inmates are going missing from Prisons in & around New York State & it’s being covered up! She determined to find out why! There’s also been a spate of serial murders that her gut is telling her are connected, she’s no idea how though. But working for 7 years embedded in war zones has taught her to trust her gut & instincts, so she’s going to follow this to until the end – come what may!!
Lea was trained as a Hunter during the times of the Spanish Inquisition. She was trained to hunt Vampire’s, ungodly creatures with no redeeming qualities. Then she was surrounded one day & turned in to one herself. Instead of listening to her sire she broke away immediately & ever since has tirelessly spent her centuries hunting & killing Vampires!! She is greatly feared by her kind!! To keep up with the times & technology, she always has a human helper. Her current one is elderly now and they both know she’s needs to find his replacement sooner rather than later!
Both women cross paths on the trail of what turns out to be the same twisted organisation! They need to decide if they can trust each other & work together or stay away from each other completely!!
This is a really twisted tale but also gripping! The conspiracy theories are terrible but the truth is even worse. The woman are both great, strong characters & really likeable. I’m looking forward to reading book #2!!

If you are a vampire fan, this book is for you. It is a little gory – too gory for me at times, but I am a wimp. Lea, is a woman who committed to kill vampires centuries ago and in the fight was turned to a vampire. She kept her vow and is a seriously strong, fast, butt kicking vampire killer. Through various connections she meets Rachel, a woman who is just as amazing as Lea, only mortal. It is SO refreshing to read about two female characters who can totally take care of themselves. They knife fight, do martial arts, shoot, anything – there is no crying, scared, “can’t express my feelings” – no these girls are the REAL DEAL! Together they uncover why an alarming number of prisoners are missing from Rikers Island. Rachel was a journalist during the Iraq war and her background is extensive. Lea has been around for centuries – so her wealth of knowledge is also great. Not my usual genre but it was fun to read something outside of the box. I also liked the little suggestions of a very famous teen vampire series… they are subtle but Rachel’s only knowledge of vampires – so that was kind of fun to see. Great book!
As usual, I went into this book without knowing what it was going to be about. When there was talk of vampires, let’s just say it’s been awhile since I’ve read a vampire book. The last one being about a sparkly, cold one and his family. Lea and Rachel are a great duo together they work well and interact well. They don’t wait to be saved, they kick butt. Until about halfway through, I wasn’t sure if I should believe Lea or Sean. That was a huge shocker to me. I think this book is very much underestimated but I highly recommend it! Now onto book 2!
The first book in the Blood Borne series, Silver Staked, by Denise Grover Swank and Shannon Mayer did not disappoint! I had never read any of Shannon’s books before, but I’m now a new fan. In this magical book, heroines Leah and Rachel come together in an epic story of supernatural suspense. These two eventually team up and run off to New York City together to hunt down and kill vampires. A super suspenseful mystery that will keeps your mind reeling. By the end of the book, I was loving this new found friendship between strong women! These authors are masters of descriptive action and I am looking forward to more books from this writing duo.
I was unsure about what this book would be about seeing as how I’ve never read a vampire book. This book actually blew me away! It wasn’t anything like I expected. The reader is swept into a world where the government is doing testing with vampire blood on humans. I love the strong female characters and the fast action. Great book!
This was a fast paced action packed read. Lea and Rachel are both strong leading ladies with goal driven personalities. They are going up against people who are running a secret program turning people into monsters. This first book shows us how Rachel and Lea meet and bond. Looks like they have just dipped into the real story. Off to book two to see what happens next.
This isn’t normally the type of book I read but being a big fan of Denise Grover Swank – I know she won’t steer me wrong with her writing. It took me a while to finally read this one and once I started it – I couldn’t put it down. Denise and Shannon write very well together!
I loved this book on so many different levels well because of how different it was from the norm! Two amazing authors, one book! I cannot wait for Wolf Bite!
Silver Staked is not your typical sci-fi, paranormal, read. Yes, it has vampires but it doesn’t fall in line with the usual romanticism that we’ve come to know. I love the idea that the main characters are strong, independent females who can take care of themselves. I enjoyed the idea of the story being told from two vantage points. For me, it gives more insight into the thought process of the characters. I felt the storyline flowed nicely and I would never have thought that it had been written by two different authors. I think this series is off to a great start and I hope to learn a little more about the main characters in the next books. I can’t wait to see what the duo has in store for us!
I enjoyed Silver Staked (previously Recombinant). The book itself is action packed, strong, and dynamic. I like the concept of a vampire huntress who is a vampire herself and a strong female reporter not afraid to fight to get her story. I really enjoyed the concept of 2 strong female heroines teaming up to fight monsters (non-human and human). I wished there were more scenes of them working together instead working on their own separate missions and meeting after. I am very excited there is another book to experience their partnership/friendship growing. I feel both characters are already fierce women individually but am looking forward to their bond, friendship, trust, and ability to can combine their strengths to create a fierce duo in future book(s).
