Only I don’t fault him for sleeping with my sister.

Then tragedy strikes—again—and I’m left with a dilemma.

When Billy Harrington finds out that he is a father to a teenager he never knew about, he doesn’t quite know what to do. He is completely out of his element. You see, he’s the Harrington that can’t quite do anything right–the family disappointment. He dropped out of college. He messed up his marriage. He sleeps with anyone and everyone. He’s the party guy that opened a bar instead of joining the family business. He’s unreliable and only cares about himself.
–or at least, that’s what his reputation says about him and *GASP* you can’t really believe everything you hear, can you?
When Billy’s daughter (Sadie) moves in with her aunt, Roxanne McAllister (aka, bookstore owner and Billy’s nemesis,) he has to find a way to become a father AND get along with Roxie. Sadie broke my heart going through so much in her young life. I adored the relationship between her and Billy. And Roxie and Billy? I was thrilled to discover that Billy is so much more than what he seems. The same can be said for Roxie for different reasons. These two are fire and ice and their banter was definitely a favorite part of the story for me. I absolutely loved watching this unexpected family, who seem so different from each other, learn to navigate a life together where they can all let go of their past hurts and build something new and glorious together. This is one of the reasons I love LB Dunbar’s books–her characters are mature and relationships are not always easy when you are older and established in your life. Real life is messy and complicated and beautiful and this book shows that. I loved it from beginning to end and highly recommend it!
What a great story! I enjoyed it from beginning to end.
It was sweet, emotional, and sexy. I definitely recommend this book, this series, and this author.
I am always so excited to get another silver fox/over 40 book from L.B. Dunbar. They are literally some of my favorite books to read and this one is no exception. This book was so amazing and so much more than I expected.
I had this idea going into this book of what Billy Harrington was going to be and I was so blown away with who he actually was and how deep he was. WOW!!! He literally had me swooning at times when he revealed himself to Roxi. I couldn’t help but feel bad for Billy after a while because I had done the same thing to him that Roxi did. Roxi judged Billy by the outside looks and his reputation. You think he’s a total player but he’s actually not. I mean he has slept around but it’s not at all like what it seems. Literally hearing the back story and then Roxi juding him – just like I did – broke my heart for him. When we got that amazing insight into him and how he actually feels, you can’t help but love him & become so enamored with him. *swoon* Then not only do we see his feelings for Roxi, then he get to watch him become a dad & see his love for Sadie. Talk about melting you. *swoon*
I was so into this book but I literally was still up at 3 a.m. finishing it. I just couldn’t put it down. In the end, Roxie & Billy’s journey even though not easy was worth the ride!
I can’t wait for more Harrington brother books and please keep the silver foxes/over 40 books coming. They are literally my favorites!!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Billy Harrington is a self-proclaimed player. He wants everything to think that he is a one and done when it comes to relationships. He was devastated when his wife left him. He feels that his family thinks of him as a failure. Fast forward sixteen years later, and a daughter he did not know existed shows up. Roxanne is the bookstore owner next door who Billy has had many run ins with in the past. She is also the aunt of Billy’s daughter. She is insecure with her appearance and doesn’t feel like she could ever be good enough for a Billy. She has a hard time getting past the rumors of his past escapades. He and Roxie’s relationship is rocky until they realize they need to come together for Sadie. The progression of Billy is amazing. I loved watching him come to terms with being a father and maturing. I loved how sweet, sensitive and patient he was to Roxie and how he welcomed Sadie into his life. Their road is not an easy one but with determination and love, they are able to create a family filled with love and happiness. I have read every book by L.B. Dunbar, and I must say that Billy has found a permanent spot in my heart. I look forward to more of the Harrington family!!
This is the BEST BOOK in the series. I loved Giant, I swooned over Denton. but Billy, Oh Billy!!! be still my heart, I’m ready to climb him like a spider monkey. He’s sexy AF, smirking Bastard with a devilish reputation of being a man whoring slut. BUT he’s sweet, loving, loyal and clueless at first but rises to the occasion.
A young 16 year old walks into a bar, or as Billy would say Pub, and he thinks she’s too young for him, till she slaps his heart by saying – I’m your daughter knuckle head!!
She reminds me of Violet from The Incredibles, a Disney movie about a family with superpowers, which she loved as a child. Is that what she wants—a superpower to disappear? Does she want the ability to put a forcefield around herself?
World upside down!
Ground pulled from beneath the feet!
Stunned silence followed by pukefest !
things could’ve been worse yanno
This situation has been dumped into his lap and he’s caught with his foot in his mouth!
Better than the Pants down 16 years ago scenario .tee hee
Well…all he can do is suck it up & deal with it. But first things first!
try to win the sparring match with HER aunt and HIS arch- nemesis – Roxanne McAllister. according to Billy, Roxie is out to destroy and annihilate him and according to Roxie, Billie is a noise polluter and a tonsil tester with commitment issue. She’s a bookstore owner, he’s allergic to anything written in words!
“There are worse things than my junk on your book,”
“In my book, your junk is the worst thing,” she mumbles, twisting my words.
“Your junk, as you so eloquently called it, will never come anywhere near my book.”
See the problem there!! They’re poles apart and locked in a duel for years.
Their spats are Hilarious. Some of the BEST banter I’ve read in months!
Volatile emotions boil over and are diverted from war to Love….or lust as I should say. The problem with Roxie is her sharp biting tongue which Billy’s soon sucks and subdues rendering her stupid senseless and mute..
I loved that!!!
“You and that damn complaint.”
“You and your screeching noise.”
“You and your attitude.”
“You and your…your women,”
There’s so much ensuing drama..oh my lord. From puking to getting drunk, to absconding to getting robbed…They’re worse than a couple of teens I swear!!
I brought my popcorn and smiled and giggled watching them go at each other’s throat like a good tennis match.
Laughed and swooned, sighed and salivated, my heart pinched and cried at times but whenever I looked at the Highly Misunderstood and Overly Underrated Billy Harrington, my heart swelled and repaired itself
And no matter how old you are, Daddy catching you getting frisky with your girlfriend is always hilarious.
Thoroughly enjoyed it
Loved the funny sweetness and poignancy that goes with it and smartassery was at its finest..keep going Dunbar, I’m following the Harringtons with my tongue hanging out!!
The BEST SCENE was the Octoberfest , cause I met some of my fave people
5 stars for A Fine Line Between Hate & Love
LOVED! I adore that this was not a 20-something book. I love all books, but it was really awesome to read about people closer to my age – and LM Dunbar rocked it! Billy and Roxie’s story is anything but conventional and I loved every second of it! AMAZING!!
Loves can happen in the strangest of ways
L. B. Dunbar has done it again with Silver Player. The little quaint town for Blueridge is really seeing the action. This is definitely a must read, you won’t be disappointed.
I love when I read a book an I feel like I’m living with the characters, understanding why they are like they are.
Billy and Roxie are two souls that have confidence issues, secrets and promises either made to themselves or those that they loved. Why do they have these issues and will these keep them from finding a happily ever after.
Fall into the journey with Billy and Roxie… oh and we can’t forget Sadie. See how love and hate work together to make their journey memorable.
Turns out the thing you most needed was the one thing you never knew you already had.
Billy and Roxanne have sad pasts and this story takes you on an complicated journey. LB has taken great care to make their collective paths relatable.
SILVER PLAYER is the second book in “The Silver Foxes of Blue Ridge” series and it is fantastic.
The story stars Billy (William) Harrington and Roxanne (Roxie) McAllister. They are both strong personalities over the age of 40. I am so happy with this book; it pulled unexpected emotions from me, made me swoon, ticked me off, made me giggle and most of all satisfied me as any good story should.
There is much I want to say about this book but I don’t want to give anything away. The character development is perfect, the story is compact and eventful and I never felt like I was reading words go simply up a word count. I DEVOURED this book in one sitting and I absolutely 100% recommend it. It is books like this that make me wish 10 star ratings allowed because sometimes 5 just aren’t enough
I LOVE this book!!! When a book can take you on a journey of loss, grief, self doubt, learning, hope and love then put you back together in the best possible way you NEED to READ it, and FEEL it. I cried, I laughed, I was hurt, then angry. Sometimes things are just NOT what they seem to be and thru it all I could feel LOVE. Thanks L.B. for another great book in the Silver Foxes series
Billy has worked hard to make his pub what it is today. Always feeling like he had to work extra hard to get his fathers approval since returning to Blue Ridge divorced. The hurts that came with his divorce had caused him to keep people at a distance, but he still had the want for a woman, so he was quickly deemed a player. When he is surprised by the news of his teenage daughter, he had no idea about, he wasn’t sure that he would be a good father. But very quickly stepped in to do what needed to be done. But dealing with Roxanne McAlister, might be the hardest part of the equation.
Roxanne is happy running her bookstore in this little town she used to call home many years ago. Sad with the loss of her sister but excited for the time with her niece Sadie. Concerned for the poor girl trying to understand and deal with all the changes in her life. Shocked when Sadie reveals that she knows the name of her father and seeks him out. She has not seen eye to eye with Billy Harrington since her return, and is a little worried about having to deal with him. Worried that he will take Sadie away from her and she is all the family she has left.
Billy and Roxanne have had an explosive connection since her return back to Blue Ridge. Forced to spending time together for Sadie as she gets to know Billy. No one would have ever guessed that they could work together.
Is it possible for them to leave the hurts of the past behind them? Could that explosive behaviour actually be chemistry and attraction? Is it possible they are what each other has needed all along?
I am loving the series and the Harrington family. Looking forward to more.
***Advanced copy provided in exchange for an honest review.***
These Harrington brothers sure know how to keep us entertained! In SILVER PLAYER it’s time for Billy’s story. We have met him in previous books but all the books in this series stand alone, so readers can jump in at any point.
Now, Billy might be a functioning adult, with a successful business to boot, but he certainly has his middle child syndrome hang-ups. And his woes only increase when he battles with Roxie McAllister, aunt to the teen daughter he just found out about!
Like all of Dunbar’s books I’ve read, it’s a rollercoaster of emotions. There’s fun and laughter, hurt and tears, love and desire. I enjoy the way Dunbar slowly chisels away at the walls her characters have built up. It gives readers the chance to know these characters and to cheer them on as they work through their issues and ideally find love.
If you need some silver fox heroes in your lives, give this book and this series a go!
Oh boy what can I say… Roxie & Billy butt heads for sure but you can’t help but LOVE them. They are definitely enemies that say they can’t stand one another but that’s really not true. They won’t say it out loud but in their own heads they know they are attracted to one another. Add Sadie to this mix and you get a fantastic read. I found myself so attracted to Billy! This Harrington brother pulled at my heart strings. Roxie is more than what she appears to be as well. I found myself crying a few times reading this story. L.B. your silver foxes are the BEST! Thank you so much for another beautiful story showing what love & relationships can be for the 40+ Please keep them coming!
I know every time I get a silver fox book from L.B. Dunbar that I won’t be able to do anything else until I read it all! I was up at 3 AM reading before work that’s how unputdownable this book is! I loved Roxie & Billy beyond words! Definitely one of my favorite silver fox stories ever!
Roxie & Billy captivated me from the first page to the last! These characters plus Sadie stole my heart! I got more emotional than I typically do while reading. Some parts broke my heart. In the end, Roxie & Billy’s journey even though not easy was worth the ride!
I can’t wait for more Harrington brothers books! I’m not ready to leave these characters & their world behind!
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
Oh how I appreciate a book that gives us characters over the age of forty and shows us that love knows no age. L.B Dunbar is the Queen of Silver Foxes and Billy Harrington is another Fantastic Character Added to the list.
Billy Harrington has many names, Brother, Business Owner, Player but one he never expects is Dad. He is a man who has secrets but this is one he never knew and when he finds out it’s the niece of his nemesis life becomes a total whirlwind.
Roxanne McAllister is a Fantastic Aunt to her niece Sadie, a bookstore owner in BlueRidge and a woman who finds herself attracted to the one man everyone seems to have had but herself.
The banter & the bickering you will watch between Billy & Roxanne is sometimes off the charts, but there is an underlying factor in it all and it’s called amazing attraction for the other. We will watch how they navigate through feelings and see them do whatever they feel is best not only for Sadie but for themselves too. There is so many emotions you will feel when reading their story, and they will have to overcome so many of them but what you want to see is that they can all find that the HEA that each of them truly deserves.
What a fantastic read!!
“She’d be my curvy fantasy, if the reality wasn’t, she’s my worst nightmare.”
Billy Harrington is a known player. When proof of his indiscretions walks into his pub one day, he’s left reeling and trying to find his footing. Throw in the fact that it links him inextricably to his sharp-tongued nemesis, Roxanne McAllister, and he’s suddenly trying to navigate through some uncharted waters.
“I’m the one woman he hasn’t tried to sleep with, and I don’t know why, but it bothers me.”
Roxanne McAllister can’t stand Billy or his flirtatious ways. Although, there’s a tiny part of her that begs to know why he’s never tried it on with her. When life gets complicated and Billy starts spending more time with her, she begins to understand the man under the player reputation. Unfortunately, she finds it very hard to change her perception of him, and trust in his words and actions.
“He wants my lips, my tongue, my breath, and he’s stealing it all from me.”
Ooh! This story was so good! It dived straight in and the fireworks between Billy and Roxie were big, bright and beautiful. They felt like real people full of doubts and desire, and the need to be accepted for who they were. Roxie was like a dog with a bone gripping on to her skewed view of Billy but God bless him for persisting. I felt his hurt and helplessness as his efforts were thrown back in his face. Sometimes, it felt like he took one step forward and three steps back, as he struggled to maintain his equilibrium when it came to Roxie. She was part shrew and part angel, which made for a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between them. They were fiery, passionate, and tender with one another. I loved them! Such a fabulous read!
This is Book 2 in The Silver Foxes of Blue Ridge.
This is the story of Billy (William) & Roxie (Roxanne). Billy owns the pub. Roxie owns the book store. Their characters are very frustrating. That’s what makes this story so great. They appear to hate each other and bicker all the time. It’s actually a way to cover up their feelings. A lot of their conversations have an underlying tone to sex. There are big surprising secrets revealed in this story. Each of their thoughts are assuming ones where the other is concerned, and couldn’t be farther from the truth. This is a great story, as usual from L.B. Dunbar. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
Enemies to lovers with a twist! Silver Player is a fantastic and emotional roller coaster of a read. Billy and Roxanne had me wanting to throw my kindle, hug them, yell at them, made me cry with them and ultimately stole my heart. These two definitely do not have an easy road to love. Both have been hurt in so many ways. From their pasts to grief they’ve certainly been put through the wringer.
Add in a teenage girl who’s life is drastically changing and you’ve certainly got a recipe for drama. But these two fight their way (occasionally literally) to an HEA that will leave you swooning.
This is Roxie, Billy and Sadie’s story. It’s a beautiful, heartfelt story that made me cry! It was very emotional. I’m not sure if I identified with the characters, the storyline or what, but I feel this book is one of the best LB Dunbar has written. It’s like she gets better and better with each one. I feel there’s so much meaning behind each character’s story that the book is somewhat complex, but easy to read, to understand what they are feeling.
I know I’ve been cryptic, but I don’t want to spoil anyone’s experience because it was such a wonderful, amazing book. Definitely worth 5+ stars!
There is nothing I enjoy more than reading a good seasoned romance and L.B. Dunbar is the queen of writing romance after 40! Her characters are complex and like a rose, removing the petals one by one you see how different it looks underneath without all of the layers. Billy and Roxie are loaded with layers. He’s 46 and she’s 41. They have both experienced life and the heartbreak that sometimes comes with it. Neither one is what they appear to be on the outside but you have to remove the layers to get to the heart of their story. I am sure that you have read the blurb and are assuming that it’s the story of a player, his surprise 16 year old daughter and the woman who tamed him but you would be wrong if you think that it is all because Silver Player is so much more. It’s the story of finding love when you least expect it and most need it. It is a story about burying hurts and showing the world what it expects to see even though it bruises your soul. It’s a story about family and unconditional love. Silver Player is told from dual POV and I recommend this book to all fans of romance after 40!
