Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, never knows what the day—or night—may bring. But in the fifth novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, she’s about to learn that while some secrets are dangerous—those who seek them are just plain deadly… Mercy is smart enough to realize that when it comes to the magical Fae, the less you know, the better. But you can’t always get what … better. But you can’t always get what you want. When she attempts to return a powerful Fae book she’d previously borrowed in an act of desperation, she finds the bookstore locked up and closed down.
It seems the book contains secret knowledge—and the Fae will do just about anything to keep it out of the wrong hands. And if that doesn’t take enough of Mercy’s attention, her friend Samuel is struggling with his wolf side—leaving Mercy to cover for him, lest his own father declare Sam’s life forfeit.
All in all, Mercy has had better days. And if she isn’t careful, she might not have many more to live…

Patricia Briggs is on my “automatic purchase” list. I listen to the Mercy Thompson series and read the Alpha and Omega books. Silver Borne is my favorite book in the Mercy Thompson series (so far). I have just finished listening to it for the 3rd or 4th time. Several characters (Mercy, Samuel, Mary Jo, and “the pack”) change in unexpected ways. The Fae characters and their powers keep the story moving forward. Of course there is plenty of action.
You need to read this series in order to understand the characters’ decisions and actions. So while Silver Borne is my favorite, it is not a good starting point.
Loved this one! This series just gets better and better with fresh story ideas and character insights. I never know what to expect from the next edition, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised to find that it’s not a repetition of a previous one. This one has a lot going on: Mercy trying to return a fae treasure, Sam’s perilous personal issues and Mercy’s own issues integrating into the pack.
This is my favorite book of the series by far. I enjoyed Moon Called, but this book has taken Mercy’s character and brought out the best and the parts of her character I can identify with most. I also appreciate how complicated and rounded she has become.
I often find it’s easy for me to grow tired of characters as series go on. Patricia Briggs has done a great job at keeping Mercy Thompson’s character fresh.
Mercy is trying to find an acquaintance and ends up right in the middle of trouble in this book. Not only is she trying to stop a evil fae, she is also dealing with pack issues and trying to help Samuel find his will to continue.
Overall a very emotional and stressful book for Mercy. She has gone through so much emotional trauma and yet she is adapting and overcoming it. I really love how strong mentally Mercy is. She is a very powerful character that sticks with me because she shows that you can overcome traumas. It might take a while but it’s doable.
I am very interested in learning more about Ariana and Samuel’s relationship. Especially since they do have a past history that they will have to overcome together.
I love the whole Mercy series. They are all outstanding. My only complaint is I wish they came out more frequently!
I will read anything by Patricia Briggs! She never disappoints!
If you love urban fantasy and have never picked up a book by Patricia Briggs then you haven’t lived! You have no idea how much you need Mercedes Thompson in your life!
Great read and at least Samuel gets his own, eventually. I’m happy that some side stories actually get resolved and doesn’t keep going and going and going.
I love the characters. Mercy seems the weakest but she always wins the day.
Things are looking up for Mercy, so naturally, everything has to go wrong simultaneously. Pack politics and dodging the fae are nothing new, but her friends are now used to backing her up in crazy situations and are along for the ride. It’s another fun entry in the Mercy Thompson universe.

This series just continues to get better and better. I am just flying through these books and they are all so easy to devour.
Mercy just feels like my new best friend now and I just adore her so much. She’s just so much fun and so feisty and so strong. She continually finds herself in trouble, but she is always up for the task. And now that she’s in the pack she is dealing with all the ramifications of that and dealing with those who are not thrilled she’s there. But she’s up for it and she’s got this. And Adam is worth the trouble. I adore Adam. He is just so good and he clearly worships the ground Mercy walks on. These two have such great chemistry and they work so well together. And as they both open up more their bond just gets stronger and stronger. They’re seriously one of my favorite couples. And then the side characters. Ben has sealed the spot as my favorite. Which did not see that happening but I love him now. Warren is still wonderful and Bran is just such a great character. And then Sam. Oh my heart Sam hurt me in this one but I love him so.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat. It was action packed from beginning to end and there was just so much constantly going on. I love all of these storylines and how it all wove together. And certain things come back to play here and just OH MAH GAH. ALL THE THINGS.
All in all, Silver Borne was an addictive book from beginning to end. This series has such a great cast of characters and is such a fun world and I’m ready to keep diving in.

Silver Borne is the fifth book in the Mercy Thompson series and I just loved getting to reenter this world with Mercy and all of her crazy friends. I just loved getting to go along with Mercy and see what she is currently getting herself into. I just had so much fun reading this story. It just dragged me into this wonderful world and I just didn’t want it to end. I can’t wait to see what happens next with this series.
