Just as Silver begins to wonder if his casual relationship with Gold might turn into more, the two men are thrown into a position that has the lovers quickly turning into enemies. With no way to escape each other, Silver and Gold begrudgingly agree to make the best of an impossible situation. Will Gold’s search for perfection drive them apart or can Silver show Gold that imperfection can be … can be beautiful?
Silver & Gold is a steamy, slow burn M/M enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity romance between two slightly self-absorbed artists.
This is the second book in the Silver in the City series.

Silver and Gold is the second book in the Silver in the City series. It is best read right after Silver and Sage, the first book in the series. This book follows Benji and Rhys’ love story, which was hinted at in the first book.
The main tropes of this book was Enemies-to-Lovers and forced-proximity, but it felt like a half-hearted attempt with those two tropes. The plot was still interesting, and I was pleased with Benji and Rhys’ relationship, but they didn’t really feel like enemies, so much as two lovers having a conflict and having to work it out. Benji and Rhys were casually hooking-up before a real-estate mix-up had them both renting the same building for their art businesses. They clash over their different artistic visions for what they wanted the business to look like, but were able to finally come to an acceptable compromise. Like the first book, the romance and story were sweet and there were some really cute moments.
Michael Stone narrated the audiobook. He has a smooth and steady voice that can be soothing to hear. There isn’t much variation for the character voices, but he does add inflections and different tones to help express the story. Overall, I found the audiobook nicely done and easy to listen to.
I love how this book started… it set the tone for the book I believe. Rhys and Benji are two artist that have a casual relationship that turns into more when they are forced to open a shop together. Each have their own demons from past relationships. It was interesting to see Rhys learn more about himself by learning more about his parents relationship from his sister. Watching each character learn to compromise in business and then in relationships was great to see. It amazed me how over time trying to make their business work made them a stronger couple. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I love this series!! I received an ARC of this book. It was a good story. Once Rhys got over some of his hang ups with relationships, I think he’s a great partner for Benji. Towards the end of the story, I feel like the focus shifted to Kyson and Bay rather quickly. It seems like Rhys and Benji moved a little fast for me. It’s a great series with well built characters. I love how close the brothers and cousin are. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book!!!
Audiobook review
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5
Hot as fire, good romance, good performance.
Silver & Gold is the second audiobook I’ve listened to by Michael Stone and he really delivered with this one. It was easy to tell the different characters by the voices he used and I would definitely listen to more books by him.
I originally read and reviewed this book when it was released back in February 2020. Below are is a copy of what I wrote then.
I really enjoyed reading Benji and Rhys’ story. Two artists, with different styles, forced to work together when they planned to work alone. Benji and Rhys were good together in bed but when they had to work together things didn’t go so well. They each get great advice from their supportive friends and family and are smart enough to follow it.
This book is seriously steamy and the sexy time was plentiful (almost a little too much); these two guys know how to burn up the sheets and lots of other places, too.
The romance for Benji and Rhys is concluded but, fair warning, there is a pretty big cliffhanger at the end that sets up the next book in the series which is Kyson and Bay’s story. I’m really looking forward to reading it and I won’t have long to wait as it will be out in only ten days (Feb. 13, 2020).
I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited.
A wonderful book 2 in this series! Benji and Rhys / Silver and Gold – perfectly imperfect! This could be read as a standalone but would definitely be better read after book 1. I am loving all the couple’s and Arlo is a lil cutie!
Oooh I loved the beginning of this and the set-up for it in the first book. You can read this as a stand-alone but I definitely recommend reading Silver & Gage first because you really get the feel of Benji, Bode, Ky and Sage’s closeness and sense of family. This is the second in the series and focuses on Benji’s story when his casual hook-up partner suddenly becomes the enemy. Benji and Rhys both have such large dreams and even though they were starting to want more from each other, suddenly being forced to share those dreams puts an abrupt halt on their developing relationship. There is plenty of bickering and stubbornness from both sides, but Benji and Rhys were never meant to be enemies, that much is obvious. They care way too much for each other and when they finally come to realise this, they’re supportive and so very sweet and just click together. It made for a great mix of hate-lust, banter, humour, and finally plenty of gooey romantic sweetness that made my heart happy.
I loved this book. I think it was a fantastic second book for this series.
It was written really well, paced just right. I devoured the book too. I only put it down for necessities.
Benji was looking to open his own studio for his art. He was in a casual thing with Rhys. When a paperwork mix up causes them to open a studio together, it creates sparks between them – both from butting heads and from their ridiculous chemistry. Ultimately, they realize they work better together and have a great ending!
I’m so loving this series!
Benji and Rhys similarities and differences I think are what made them such a good pair. Once they got over their hurdles, once Rhys understood that it was okay to be imperfect and loving your flaws as much as your partners I fell even more in love with their story.
I love this authors writing style the way she’s able to write such strong loving characters that you just want to become friends with. I can’t wait for the next book Silver and Spice!!
Silver & Gold is book #2 in the Silver in the City Series. Each book is about a different couple, but I highly recommend reading them in order to have a better understanding of things. Plus, each of these couples have their own things that make them AMAZING. You don’t wanna miss a thing.
What would you do if you started feeling MORE for a casual fling? If you are thinking maybe you should take things to the next level, then an unfortunate mistake, turns you into enemies?
That is exactly what happened to Benji & Rhys and now the only place they want to take things is far, far away from each other. That is kind of hard for them to do since they really have nowhere to hide.
I love this series so much! All of the men are amazing and each of them have a special place in my heart. I’m both excited and sad to read book 3. I don’t want this series to end.
A.d. Ellis is my go to when I need an MM fix. Her books always grab me from the first paragraph and don’t let go until the last word. Silver and Gold had the same effect on me. I can’t wait to read book 3 in this series.
You know when you love the characters in a book and the same time you kinda want to smack them? That’s precisely what happened to me while reading Silver & Gold. Yes,I understand Rhys and Benji both had dreams they didn’t want to share, but they didn’t have to act like petulant, stubborn children.
So there is some unnecessary drama,a lot of tension and also so much love. Because Benji and Rhys obviously care a lot about each other, if only they could focus their energy toward compromising instead of fighting.
The awesome thing about the story and the series,is the close knit group the Silvers have, their partners included. They’re meddling in each other’s affairs, making fun of one another, giving advice and support. Or as a united front against the hateful Dick.
And it seems like there will be some adversities to overcome in their future, and I can’t wait to see if their little family would be even stronger because of them.
