“This suspense is romantic, timely, and different. Great pacing, great characters…just great storytelling all around.” —USA Today’s Happy Ever AfterA former Navy SEAL, Cole Makani Hunter has returned home from a disastrous black ops mission without his best friend, his hearing, or the use of his right arm. So when his ex–commanding officer assigns him to an undercover mission at a rehab center … undercover mission at a rehab center for vets to discover who leaked sensitive military information to an enemy, he’d rather be anywhere but there. Almost immediately, Cole finds himself at odds with Annie Murray—a peace-loving ecotherapist whose dream is to open an animal sanctuary out of her home. While the two seemingly have nothing in common, their spirited arguments soon fuel a passion for each other.
But just as things begin to heat up between therapist and patient, dangerous complications arise. So does the past—and a shocking revelation that puts Cole and everything he now holds dear in the path of a murderous traitor.

I’ve read a dozen of her books and enjoyed everyone stories are heartfelt and I read till I reached the end of the book. Great reads to get your mind off your problems.
My listening experience got interrupted, and I was so frustrated. I did not want to stop listening. With danger, friends, love, and plenty of weird incidents throughout, I loved how Annie and Cole dealt with everything. Cole was a gruff sweetheart (don’t let him know I said that!), very protective of Annie, and I was glad when he finally started to see how his life was going. Annie was such an open and honest woman, dealing sensibly with all the pain and disability she saw around her. Sarah Naughton did a wonderful job bringing Dana Marton’s story to life.
This is my unsolicited review.
An original romance. I’m a fan of Ms. Marton’s already, but I absolutely loved her deaf hero!
Absolutely loved this book. Dana Marton is a wonderful author and I just devour her books.
This was so heartwarming, and tragic.
You must read this book.
Annie Murray is an eco-therapist, using nature to heal those afflicted with mental wounds you cannot always see and physical wounds which probably can never disappear. Peace-loving Annie’s dream is to open an animal sanctuary for those four-footed friends who need a place to belong. She is sunshine, lightness and fresh air. Cole Hunter is none of those things. A wounded, now former Navy Seal, he is hurting, he is dark and beneath the facade of strength is a broken soul. Sent to a rehab in Broslin Creek, PA run by a former soldier Murphy Dolan, Cole is not happy at being forced to “commune with nature” by the hippy nature therapist. But soon Cole’s mission at the rehab comes to the fore – someone is selling military secrets to the enemy abroad and that traitor is in their midst at the center. And as things heat up between Cole and Annie, so does the danger!
First off, I am hard-pressed to think of another author that has so skillfully mastered the art of the first sentence. Ms. Marton has managed to snap you to attention with the very first line in this book! The plot in intriguing and I was mesmerised to find out who the traitor was. The characters were well-drawn and the setting captured my interest as well. As always, I love the way this author writes, and this book was no exception to that.
Then you have Cole and Annie. At first blush is seems to be an “opposites attract” dynamic, but do be fooled, as the contrast between Cole and Annie is not so black and white as one thinks! For all her soft goodness, Annie has a steel core stronger that the tree trunks she loves to lean against. Annie has felt loss, has felt pain and chose a different way to deal with it than Cole has. And Cole – beneath muscles and a scowl lies a good, loyal heart with a touch of softness thrown in. Cole doesn’t want to be drawn into Annie’s world, but he is. And the bond these two develop winds up bringing out the best in each. I found the romance side of the book touching, real and satisfying!
Although this book is labeled “Mission Recovery #1,” the story is set in Broslin Creek, the site of Ms. Marton’s Broslin Creek series, so there was a certain “familiarity” built in to this book. I loved the ending – for all the roughness and mystery surrounding the story, it had a tender romance at its heart! A+
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
I just LOVED this book. It was full of action and suspense. It kept me guessing through out. The characters are wonderful. I fell in love with Cole and Annie. I loved the fact that the author described the two main characters and that neither one were considered “attractive”. The beauty was the heart and soul of the character not the typical physical that is so all over in books. It makes me feel good to see that even “plain Janes” like myself have a place in books!!! I was really hated to see this story end. It was so engrossing. It will have your emotions all over the place. I highly recommend this book to anyone. It will be one that you will want to read over and over.
Silent Threat by Dana Marton is a contemporary romantic suspense with mild language and sensual romance scenes. Dana Marton will grab your attention within the first couple of pages and won’t let go. Former Navy Seal Cole Makani Hunter has been sent to an unusual rehab after a black ops went bad. Annie Murray is a counselor and Cole calls her a “tree hugger”. She is a ecotherapist and believes in healing through nature. How do you relate to someone that runs an animal sanctuary in their back yard? Especially baby skunks? A one-eyed donkey and various other animals. A cousin that talks Annie into a local flip tv show on her home and the back wall collapses. Okay, in addition to the suspense there is humor, suspects and more suspects.
I always enjoy anything by Dana Marton. Her books will keep you guessing, will throw in a few turns that you aren’t expecting, has humor, romance, and likable characters and some that you aren’t so sure of.
I received this book as an ARC from Dana Marton. All opinions in this review are my own and I can truly say I thoroughly enjoyed this book by Dana. I’ve been reading her books for a long time and she never disappoints.
I laughed, I chuckled, I smiled. I nodded agreement with his instincts. Action, intrigue, romance, and mind games. What more could you want besides more. I want book 2 in my reading queue.
Fabulous new series! With a less than perfect hero and lots of anxieties to overcome!
Annie is an eco-therapist and is one of the therapists at Hope Hill. She is also the softest hearted person ever! She can’t say no to an animal on trouble and as such she shares her home with a donkey, some llamas and a pig…oh and a pack of baby skunks!
Cole is still coming to terms with the loss of his hearing and an injury to his arm. He has been in a pretty dark place but when a former commander asks him to undertake a recon mission at Hope Hill after leaked secrets were traced back to the facility, he thinks the whole set up is a lot of baloney. But even this crusty old veteran falls under the spell of Annie and her kinds hippy dippy new age mumbo jumbo!
But there is more than treason afoot. There is also a stalker ex boyfriend and a newer, darker secret admirer that Annie has to deal with. Cole will do what he can but he doubts some of his skills now due to his physical limitations.
Great story. I was a read brain twister, trying to figure out who was doing what. Can’t wait for more!
Dana Marton’s books are always winners
First book in this new series of Mission recovery. Definitely a page turner and enjoyed these characters and story line. This author never disappoints and looking forward to the next book
Ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
It kept my interest and enjoyed the story.
As always. Ms. Marton has written another entertaining read. There is intrigue, mystery, humor and romance (and skunklets). This is a very enjoyable story, I knew who the villain was about halfway in, but the story held my interest, wondering how it would play out. The Broslin Creek series books are all good reads, Well worth the time spent.
Back to Broslin, PA, a small town that has had more than it’s share of serial killers. Former Broslin policeman, Murphy Dolan and Kate (Deathwatch), returned to Broslin and build Hope Hill, an alternative-therapy rehab center for veterans. Ecotherapist, Annie Murray, has recently returned to Broslin. Cole Makini Hunter, former Navy SEAL, suffers from depression, PTSD, loss of hearing, and loss of mobility in right arm. He was a POW, tortured and then needed multiple surgeries. Warriors shouldn’t need therapy, so most veterans are reluctant to get it. He agreed to come to make his mother happy, but also was given a secret mission by his former commanding officer. That did not include him being attracted to Annie, enjoying her company or finding that she settled him and made him feel better. But someone is stalking Annie, and while Cole believes he is not good for her, he vows to make sure she is safe before he leaves. As always in Broslin, nothing is as it appears and also as always, great character development, detailed environment descriptions and an interesting plot with lots of twists and red herrings. Everyone who has enjoyed reading the Broslin Creek series will want to read this one too. There is also a side story about Annie’s cousin Kelly.
**I received a copy of Silent Threat from Net Galley and Montlake Romance in exchange for a honest and voluntary review**
Silent Threat by Dana Marton is the first book in her Mission Recovery series. The book was a bit slow at first in how both Cole and Annie learned to trust each other as well as the type of work that Annie does at Harmony Hill. I could see a possibility of a Eco Therapist working and helping out Wounded Warriors but it did seem a bit out there. I’d give the book a 3.7 stars for suspense and romance.
Annie Murray works at Harmony Hill an alternative therapy rehab center as a Eco Therapist who loves nature and her little animal sanctuary in her garage with skunklets, donkey, and a few others. She’s also agreed to help her cousin Kelly with her new home flipping business. She’s dealing with not one but a second stalker who has very dark ideas of how women should act. But I think what bothered me was her grandfathers lack of love for her and her childhood trauma that her mother didn’t know about. But she’ll have accidents that will have Cole offering to be her bodyguard and the local police not really taking her serious. Will she be able to keep her attraction between Cole and escape from the dark stalker when he escalates?
Cole Makani Hunter is a former Navy SEAL who was sent to Harmony Hill to investigate someone leaking information to Yemen and learn how to deal with his PTSD after his team was killed by a IED. But when accidents happen to Annie he offers to be her protector even taking a shift bottle feeding the skunks. However, when his friend Trevor dies of suicide Cole seems to know its linked somehow with his investigation. Can he keep Annie safe and will she stay after he tells her of his job?

3.5 stars–SILENT THREAT is the first instalment in Dana Marton’s contemporary, adult MISSION RECOVERY romantic, suspense series. This is former Navy SEAL Cole Makani Hunter, and eco-therapist Annie Murray’s story line. The Mission Recovery series is a spin off from (or loosely connected) to the author’s Broslin Creek series. Several characters cross over for cohesion and familiarity. You do not have to have read the original series to follow or understand any of the events of the current story line
Told from several third person perspectives including Cole Hunter and Annie Murray SILENT THREAT follows the building relationship between former Navy SEAL Cole Hunter and eco-therapist Annie Murray. Cole Hunter returned from his latest disastrous Black Ops mission a broken man but a man determined to take down a traitor thought to be working out of Hope Hill, a local rehab centre for wounded vets. Enter eco-therapist Annie Murray, a would-be animal rehabber with whom our hero will fall in love. What ensues is the slow building romance between Annie and Cole, and the potential fall out as Annie is targeted by a psychotic mind.
Annie Murray finds solace in the rehabilitation of animals and man. A ‘tree-hugging’ eco-therapist Annie’s form of therapy connects man with nature in an attempt to ground the client when things begins to spiral out of control. Cole Hunter is a former Navy SEAL who battles his own demons including his escalating PTSD from his time as a POW, a loss of hearing, and an injury that has left our hero struggling without the use of his arm. When a traitor is discovered selling secrets to the enemy Cole must go undercover at Hope Hill to ferret out the person responsible for selling out the American government, risking the lives of the men and women who serve.
The relationship between Annie and Cole is slow to build as Annie believes Cole is her client, and Cole is on a mission to find the person responsible for destroying so many lives. As their friendship begins to grow so do the threats against our story line heroine –threats believed to be coming from a stalker who is determined to pull Annie back into his life. The $ex scenes are limited, mostly implied and fade to black.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including several members of the local police force, and a number of former military vets who are battling their own demons from outside and within. We are introduced to Annie’s cousin Kelly whose need to succeed threatens Annie’s stability and home; and Dr. Dan Ambrose, the resident psychiatrist at Hope Hill.
SILENT THREAT is a story of romance and suspense; betrayal and revenge; falling in love and moving on from the past. The premise is intriguing; the romance is sweet but I had a difficult time connecting with the couple’s attraction to one another due in part to the very slow build towards friendship and love; the characters are eclectic and colorful.
I enjoyed the book for entertainment value. I liked the characters and the story.
I would recommend this Romance book to all of my friends.
Dana Marton’s Silent Threat is fast-paced and well-written, and everything you could want in a romantic suspense–but it was the well-drawn characters that really stole my heart! A Navy Seal with hearing loss, limited use of one arm, and PTSD meets a naive, nature-and-animal-loving ecotherapist at a military rehab. Of course , opposites attract! She’s tortured because he’s a patient, but really he’s undercover… This is Mission Recovery Book 1, and it was so good I downloaded Book 2 right away!
This is the first book I’ve ready by this author, and I really enjoyed the way she leads us through the plot twists and turns and weaves the tension in alongside the romance in a way that really worked. Good pacing, good action and I love that the characters have interesting careers. I’m always a sucker for a feisty heroine who has overcome a dark past and managed to stay a good person. And a badass wounded warrior as a hero is irresistable…
When I was first introduced to the hero I wasn’t sure I was going to like him. Boy did that change. Ms. Marton wove a superb tale and her characters really work their way into your heart. This is the first book I’ve read for Ms. Marton but you can bet your Kindle it won’t be the last! Thank you for a story that sucked me in and entertained me until the final word. I lost an entire day of writing but damn if it wasn’t worth every minute!!Dana Marton Silent Threat
