Just looking at the title and cover of this book, I was convinced that I was in for a treat and I wasn’t wrong! Silent Shadows has everything that I love in a story: family bonds, suspense, romance, and laugh-out-loud humor! It also has realistic characters striving to forget their past by working to have a better future. Pecca Gallegos has a past that wasn’t always pretty but she is now a loving Christian mother, a wonderful nurse, and she has a great sense of humor! It’s no wonder that she immediately captures the attention of Colton Crawford, a new client at the facility where she works. Colton is dealing with a physical problem that is thought to be related to PTSD and he questions why God has allowed this. Is it possible that Pecca and her young son Maceo are what Colton needs? Will he be able to protect them if threats by an unknown person (or persons) turn to violence?
Silent Shadows is the third and final book in the Harbored Secrets series and it is a terrific way to say goodbye to the people of Walton, Georgia. Walters uses Pecca’s job at the Home for Heroes to remind us that our veterans need love and support as they deal with both physical and emotional issues. Colton’s attention to Maceo gives the boy a glimpse of a strong, positive male mentor and the romance between Pecca and Colton simply took my breath away. Best of all, there is a strong faith message woven throughout the story.
This Harbored Secrets series will make you glad that you visited Walton, Georgia, and you may feel sad that this is the last book of the series but you definitely won’t regret reading Silent Shadows. It is great Christian romantic suspense!

This was a perfect book to read during the pandemic because it was one I could not put down. I loved Pecca and Colton. These were great characters. Both of these characters had some problems that they were working out and end up helping each other to work them out. This story has so many twists and turns. I loved the suspense and there was just a bit of romance to make it interesting. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I got pulled in quickly, cared about the characters and could picture where I was. It took me a long time to figure out who the bad guy was, and that’s always a good sign in a romantic suspense novel. Even though this was book 3 in the series, I haven’t read books 1 or 2 and didn’t feel at a disadvantage. I’ll be going back to remedy that.
Nothing in a small town is as it seems…
Oh yeah!!! Talk about a hum-dinger of a conclusion to a perfectly chilling romantic suspense series! Seriously, when a novel starts out with the first line “Pecca Gallegos never thought she’d be turning down a marriage proposal – much less four of them.” one wouldn’t normally expect dangerous secrets from the past and a hail of bullets to ensue, but, this is a Natalie Walters book and it’s romantic suspense.
Silent Shadows was a pretty good book right from the dramatically creepy purple cover to the last exciting page. There were so many twists and turns I could hardly keep up and I totally did not guess the reason behind the rising threats toward Pecca and her son Maceo.
With each of the novels in the Harbored Secrets series the author introduces flawed characters facing challenges that as Christians we often try to pretend only happen to non-believers. Silent Shadows was no exception. The characters have to deal with a number of emotional and physical issues that would be daunting to any person.
Natalie Walters has a pretty good story with this book and I have to admit that I’m sorry to say goodbye to everyone in Walton, Georgia. Who knew a sleepy small Southern town could be so dangerous… This may be the last book in the Harbored Secrets series but I certainly hope to see more from this author in the future.

Secrets are exposed in Silent Shadows by Natalie Walters! The residents of Walton, Georgia — and her readers! — are in for a lot of surprises!
The fictional town of Walton is so sweet and fun — definitely one of my favorite fictional towns! Additionally, quirky characters and their camaraderie are some of my favorite parts of a story, and Silent Shadows has these elements in spades! I also love the author’s writing style. The plot flows smoothly, the story reads quickly, and the clues and suspense were paced nicely. And I really LOVED that the suspense doesn’t feel “too big” for the story! Even with the small town setting and the focus on Pecca and Colton’s romance, the actual suspense felt like something that could happen to the average Joe.
The characters were my favorite part of this story! Through Pecca and Colton’s romance, the author was able to weave many beautiful threads of truth into the story. Pecca was a woman who loves with the fierce love of God! I also love seeing Hispanic main characters! Through Colton, the author touches on difficult subjects like medication dependency, cognitive brain therapy, and movement disorders. I found these aspects of Colton’s character development to not only be really enlightening but also powerfully written! The freedom Colton experiences when he finally embraces the truth that he has so much to offer the people around him is beautiful and desperately needed in this world!
Five Stars ~ Silent Shadows by Natalie Walters is a sweet conclusion to a stellar series! Silent Shadows is the third book in the author’s Harbored Secrets Series; however, Silent Shadows can be read as a standalone.

Excellent read. Author Natalie Walters did a superb job balancing suspense and romance. The twists were unexpected but realistic. Her characters were well developed, and she had me caring for the safety of Pecca and her son, and I wanted to help Colton deal with his situation. This novel was very compelling and suspenseful but heart-warming. I couldn’t put it down.
Working as a rehabilitation nurse for a Home for Heroes, Pecca Gallegos works with a new disgruntled patient, Army Captain Colton Crawford, who suffers from a movement disorder. Unwilling to accept his condition, Pecca tries to find ways to help him.
When strange things happen, and someone shoots at Pecca, Colton comes running. Pecca’s past caught up with her in ways she least expected and puts her life at risk.
Apart from the fascinating story, I loved the way the author showed camaraderie among the veterans at the Home for Heroes.
I give this novel five stars. Readers will not be disappointed.

This is definitely one of my favorite suspense series. While I haven’t had the pleasure of reading the first book, I enjoyed the Captain America references of book two that led to the Incredible Hulk references in the conclusion of the series.
Pecca is running from her past along with her eight year-old son who forms a bond with her most recent patient, a veteran dealing with an abnormal handicap. But there is someone hunting Pecca- and his family will be killed if he doesn’t bring her in to a mysterious bad guy.
Pecca and Colton have great chemistry, with her being so upbeat and sweet all the time, and him trying to be less grumpy. And all the veterans in the D-wing were competing to be my favorite with their constant banter. I even liked the poor bad guy minion who has come to the point Pecca has run so hard to escape: having to choose between losing his family or betraying an innocent. A great addition to the romantic suspense genre.

Oh My Word! Every book in this series has gotten better and this is the perfect ending! Pecca and Colton are absolutely delightful. Their chemistry is spot on! I enjoyed watching not only their relationship, but each of them individually grow. Colton has been through a lot in his life and he’s slowing working to figure out what his future looks like. Pecca is trying to figure out the best way to keep herself and her son safe and whole. It’s a perfect storyline given where we are in our country right now. And on top of that, their romance is an absolutely perfect escape! I loved everything about it! Thank you, Natalie Walters, for a tremendous story!

Silent Shadows by Natalie Walters has Pecca Gallegos living in Walton, Georgia with her son, Maceo. She moved to get her son away from the dangerous life of his father who is currently in prison. Pecca works as a rehabilitation nurse at Home for Heroes where the men who occupy D-Wing just love her. Her latest patient, though, is a different story. Captain Colton Crawford and Pecca get off to a rough start. Colton has a movement disorder that has drastically changed his life. Doctors have been unable to cure or find the cause. Dr. Mike Kelly and his treatments are Colton’s last hope. Colton is drawn to Pecca and her friendly son, Maceo. After dinner at the local café, someone takes pot shots at Pecca. Someone from Pecca’s past is after her. Colton works to uncover who is behind the attacks and to keep Pecca along with Maceo safe. Silent Shadows is the third book in the Harbored Secrets series, but it can be read on its own (but, really, why would you want to). We do get a visit from recurring characters along with new ones. I thought Silent Shadows was well-written with complex, realistic characters. I did find the pacing a little slow in the beginning, but it soon picks up with the action. I admit that it does feel like a medical romance until bad things start to happen. The story then draws you in as Pecca finds herself in danger. She wants to keep her son safe and needs Colton’s help to do it. I enjoyed the older veteran’s in D-Wing. They were a delight and added humor to this intense story. I was confused as to Pecca’s profession. We are told she is a nurse, but she also oversees the patient’s physical therapy. Online sleuthing led me to rehabilitation nurses (nurse practitioners and clinical nurses may sub-specialize in this field). I felt bad for Colton as he dealt with his movement disorder. It seemed so painful and uncontrollable. I can see why Colton was frustrated. I thought Home for Heroes sounded like a wonderful place and I hope such places exist int he real world for our amazing veterans. The mystery is challenging because it is not what you expect. I liked figuring out who was the bad guy. The attraction between Colton and Pecca was obvious (very palpable). Maceo is such a cutie and it is obvious he needs and wants a male role model in his life (one he likes football and Marvel comics is preferred). Silent Shadows has intrigue, danger, action, humor, faith, secrets, action and romance. I enjoyed the epilogue that nicely wrapped up Silent Shadows and the Harbored Secrets series. Silent Shadows is an intriguing novel with football fanatics, Marvel mania, a deadly destroyer, vigilant veterans, a chronic condition, a nurturing nurse, and a surprising secret.
I can’t believe I haven’t written a review on this book yet! For one, I didn’t realize that this was the last of a series of books called Harbored Secrets. In this case, the author was able to weave the story with previous characters without me realizing until the very end, there was previous stories on these individuals!
As it was, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found myself looking for ways to finish it when life interrupted. The story of Pecca had me guessing along the way, and many times my guesses were incorrect. I liked Pecca and her son, and then the story with Colton it just weaved together just right.
Let’s just say, now that I’ve read book three I’m ready to start from the beginning and read the other books in this series.

4 1/2 out of 5 stars
I think if I held this book sideways, I could have seen the steam rising from the pages. The chemistry between Pecca and Colton is undeniable. If that weren’t enough for a good story, the author throws in death threats from an unknown source, an innocent child needing a good male influence, and a journey through dealing with physical disability. Wow. This was one wild ride.
Pecca and her son were introduced in book 2 of this series and her character was so likable then that I was glad to see her story further developed. I loved her kindness and compassion reflected in her work as a nurse and her role as single mother. Why she didn’t already have a long line of men courting her before Colton arrived was a mystery. Full review is at my website.
I received this book complimentary as a participant in the Revell book tour. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are honest and my own.
This was such a beautiful ending to an amazing series. I have loved every single one of the books in this series and I am super sad to see it end. This is Mrs. Walters debut series and I cannot wait to see what she has up her sleeves for us in the future. I fell in love with this book from page one and I seriously read it all in like 4 hours. I could not put it down.
As always, Mrs. Walters crafts the best characters ever. Not only do we get to see characters from the previous books but we got to meet more enduring characters that were introduced in this book. Pecca was such an amazing female protagonists. I loved getting to know her character and watching her grow as the story evolved. I related to her in quite a few areas of her personality and way of thinking. Colton was a cinnamon roll that was so amazing. He was the best male protagonist for this story. His brooding ex-military personality made him all the more charming.
The side characters were just as amazing as the main ones. Especially the 8-Wing Vetersn. Oh my word, I loved these vets so much. I need to find myself some veterans like these men. They were hilarious and gave excellent advice. 😉
Pecca and Colton’s romance was a main focus in this book but I really enjoyed it, like all the other ones previous in this series. They had the perfect chemistry and I loved watching them fall in love over the course of this book. It was so adorable!!
The plot, man oh man was this plot intense. I loved every minute of it and some of plot twists towards the end there…..oh boy were they surprises. I was in shock! I should have seen it coming, but I didn’t and I was going crazy. But my word can Mrs. Walters craft a beautiful yet intense plot in her novels. They never cease to amaze me how amazing they are.
If y’all haven’t picked up this series, yet you should! Baker Publishing House is having free shipping on any orders so during this lock down you can binge this whole series! It is worth the money and your time so go to it!!!

“Silent Shadows” by Natalie Walters is incredible. Walters finishes off the series, which takes place in the small Georgia town of Walton, with this must read success. Pecca and Colton lead the cast of unforgettable and endearing characters in this wonderful mystery that will leave the reader guessing throughout. From the sweetness of the budding romance to the enjoyable residents of the veterans in the home where Pecca works, this book has everything one might hope for in a fully developed novel.

I enjoy reading romantic suspense fiction. This is part of a series, but could be read alone. It follows the lives of the residents of Walton, GA. Pecca has become a favorite of mine. She was such a fun character and she and Colton’s story kept me guessing until the end. I was shocked and didn’t figure out the ending until the author revealed it! To me a book is very well written suspense if that can happen. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. And Maceo is just a precious young boy! I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions stated here are my own.
Although each book in the Harbored Secrets Series can be read as a stand alone, I have greatly enjoyed the overlapping details of the characters and places. Natalie Walters has pulled off another win in Book 3, Silent Shadows. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Here’s Why You Should Totally Read Silent Shadows by Natalie Walters:
* The grumpy, broody hero with heart of gold and a will to protect
* The kind, caring and spirited single mom who’s tougher than she thinks
* Really well-crafted plot
* Mysterious figures…
* Strong supporting cast that will make you smile!
* Reminders of God’s love woven thru the story naturally
This book is billed as a romantic suspense, so…it’s not a secret that it’s romancey. And, while what I’m about to mention might be mildly sorta kinda spoilery, I’ve gotta say – Silent Shadows features the most adorable first date ever!
I totally recommend Silent Shadows! Can’t wait for more from Natalie Walters!

As hard as I tried to pace myself while reading this book, I couldn’t read it fast enough and when I finally turned to the very last page, I desperately wished there were more pages left.
Silent Shadows follows Pecca Gallegos a nurse who moved to Walton to protect her son and escape the dangerous lifestyle she was living. While working at a veteran rehab facility, several threats are made on her life and Pecca finds herself being protected by her new patient Colton Crawford. He’s a handsome, swoon worthy, ex-Army captain desperate to find answers for the undiagnosed disorder that’s ruining his life.
There was a little more romance than suspense in this book and I actually ended up really loving that aspect of the story. I normally like a heavier suspense thread in romantic suspense books but Natalie did a great job weaving the two threads together in this book and it felt like I couldn’t get enough and I wanted more. There’s still plenty of action and the danger ramps up the farther you read but I think it’s the sweet, heart-melting romance that makes this story truly amazing.
I also loved the fact that both characters stood out on their own, each working through their own individual struggles. Colton with his feelings of inadequacy and finding purpose in his life and Pecca with her fear of repeating the same mistakes she once made in her life. Their relationship is sweet and tender with a good amount of humor making their story even more enjoyable but I think what I loved most about the pair was being able to see the two of them coming together. In the end they helped each other to overcome the obstacles in their lives and found acceptance in living loved.
My final thought on Silent Shadows is that Natalie does a brilliant job wrapping up the Harbored Secrets series. I didn’t want to say goodbye to the small town of Walton, Georgia and all of the wonderful characters Natalie created along the way but the ending was beautiful and well written making it easier for me to let go of all the characters I grew to love.

What an enjoyable read! I have really been entertained by all of Natalie Walter’s books in this series, but in my opinion, Silent Shadows is the best so far! I love romantic suspense, and this had a lot of both! I love it when I can’t predict the twists and turns that a story takes. I did not see them coming in this story. The major and minor characters are well developed and loveable (except for the bad guy of course). The journey and depth of experience that Pecca and Colton brought to their relationship made for a delightful and thoughtful tale. Highly recommend!
A fantastic conclusion to the Harbored Secrets series! I’m sad that is has come to an end. I’ve loved my time spent in Walton, Georgia. This third book features Pecca and Colton, both still dealing with their respective pasts and the hurt found there. It was very interesting to read of Colton’s movement disorder and how it affected him. But in the words of the author – “The past does not define the future.” As they come to know each other they begin to see glimpses of their futures and how what they have experienced has brought them to this point. And how even though life seems to be throwing them some big curve balls, God’s plans are always better than anything we can imagine. As in the previous books, this one is filled with twists and turns and the ultimate twist at the end that I totally didn’t see coming. What a page-turner! If you haven’t read the first two books, Living Lies and Deadly Deceit, I would suggest reading the three in order. They are stand-alones, but with many characters shown throughout the three books, they are much more enjoyable knowing the backstories. And if I haven’t said it before, Natalie Walters is an author on the rise!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher for my honest opinion. All thoughts are my own.
It’s sad to see this series end and have to say goodbye to the town of Walton and all the amazing characters I’ve met along the way but Natalie Walters ends the series on a high note! I’ve been a fan of Pecca’s since she first appeared in the series and getting to read her story has been nothing short of wonderful! Her resilience and drive to keep her son safe paired with Colton’s trials and protective nature made for a story I’ll read again and again! Highly recommend this series!! I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book this author writes!
