NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A shocking accident. A little girl struggling to survive. And the childless aunt who transforms her own world to help her . . . Danielle Steel’s deeply moving novel is a story of resilience and hope.Paige Watts is the ultimate stage mother. The daughter of Hollywood royalty, Paige channels her acting dreams into making her own daughter, Emma, a star. By the age of … a star. By the age of nine, Emma is playing a central role in a hit TV show. Then everything is shattered by unforeseeable tragedy.
Now Emma is living with her aunt Whitney, who had chosen a very different path from her sister’s. Whitney was always the studious older sister, hating the cult of celebrity that enveloped their childhood. Instead, she is a psychiatrist who lives for her work and enjoys a no-strings-attached love affair with a wealthy venture capitalist. But at a moment’s notice, Whitney drops everything to help her niece.
Once famous, outgoing, and charismatic, Emma is now a shadow of her former self—without speech, without memory, lost and terrified. But with her aunt Whitney’s help, along with a team of caregivers and doctors, Emma begins to find her way, starting her young life all over again—and changing the lives of everyone around her.
Emotionally gripping and richly involving, Silent Night explores how the heart has mysterious healing powers of its own, and blessings happen when we think all is lost.

Silent Night is a poignant story. We get to see tragic events unfold when a person is careless with their own and a loved one’s safety while operating a car. I thought Silent Night was well-written and engaging. I sat down and read this story straight through (I wen to bed late even for me). The book had steady pacing with smooth transitions between sections. There are good, relatable characters in the story. We see how life can change in a moment and families are messy. I found Silent Night to be an emotional and heartbreaking story. We get to experience the grief Whitney and Emma go through along with handling Emma’s injury. There is good information on traumatic brain injuries in the book. Danielle Steel related the details in an easy to understand way which I appreciated. Emma’s journey is difficult as she tries to relearn all that she has lost. It is nice to see the characters grow as individuals and see this one event change the course of their lives. I like that the author provided an epilogue that nicely wrapped up the book. Silent Night is a story that will touch your heart.
Awesome book
This is a wonderfully written sweet, poignant story. There are no great surprises, but if you like her standard tried and true format than you will absolutely love this one. She creates characters that you immediately want to see succeed, be their friends, see them happy and want to overcome all that ails them.
Two sisters who are so very different both love one sweet little girl with every fiber of their being. Paige, who failed to reach iconic star status on screen instead became the stage mom who lived through her child. Sadly her relentless drive became her ultimate downfall and almost that of her wonderful little girl Emma. Whitney, who grew up in the shadow of their “industry” parents could not get away fast enough and though she loved her sister, did not agree with her actions towards Emma. She saw what stardom could do and believed her mom died so very young as a result of it even if it was not her actual diagnosis. She did not want that for Emma and as a result of her upbringing decided love and children were not for her. EVER. A terrible accident early is a compelling backdrop for the wonderful growth, healing and love that is to come. Emma is so very lucky that Whitney was able both emotionally and financially to take such great care of her.
There is a certain formula to Danielle Steel books so in the hands of a less talented author could be boring. This is not at all. Not any major surprises, but a lovely read with a wonderful happily ever after. Enjoy the read.
One of the best Danielle Steel books I’ve read!
I always enjoy a Danielle Steel novel. They are usually uplifting and have interesting characters.
I love it!
It was an agonizing slow read. So much repetition as it inched its way toward the obvious conclusion.
What a great book l Love it that much l read in 2 days could not put the book down it was very moving in parts l would recommend any of Danielle Steele books they are a pleasure and comfort to read
I thought this book was a great book. Once I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. It was interesting. Also, it was inspirational. I loved it.

I enjoyed following their lives
What a great book. I haven’t read Danielle Steel in such a long time, but I love this book. It hits so many of your emotions and is so close to reality that it’s scary. Thank you for such a great read!
All of Danielle Steele’s books are good. This one of the best telling how one tragic thing in our lives can turn into a blessing.
An awesome book that I could not put down. Just when Whitney thought life was perfect, no marriage or children when she receives a call that her niece, Emma has been injured and her sister died in a car accident. Whitney’s world will turn upside down as she takes her of her niece.
This is an emotional journey that Whitney and Emma will take together. What you won’t do for a family member. This is mostly women fiction with a little romance. I highly recommend!!
Touching story of resilience and how tragedy affects not only the victim, but also those close to her. Ms. Steele has researched her subject and as usual, made a very poignant storyline come to life.
I love it when an author tells us a story and takes us on an emotional journey. In this book we get Whitney’s story as she deals with the death of her sister and her niece’s traumatic brain injuries. This storyline is heartbreakingly beautiful and I devoured every delicious page. I look forward to reading the next book by this amazing author.
I have always loved Danielle Steel and this book was no exception.. This one had a personal feel to it that I loved. A tragic accident, a long recovery for a 10 yr old girl, and romance, all combine to make this a great read.
4 1/2 STARS!
Gut-wrenching & raw! With her latest novel, Danielle Steel quickly takes us into the heart of a mother who pushes her young star to be all that she can be … and more. When tragedy strikes and life as she knows it disappears, that young girl must learn to depend on the beloved aunt who is willing to move the ends of the earth to help her be able to truly live again. The story is fast paced and attention grabbing from page one. I might have liked to get a deeper connection to Paige and had a little more depth to the romance blooming, but overall, an outstanding story of courage and determination!
Psychiatrist Whitney Watts has no idea as she’s traveling towards a luxurious vacation with her wealthy lover that her life is about to change irrevocably. Born into Hollywood legacy, she’s always preferred to live in her own low-key bubble instead of partaking in the limelight the rest of her family always craved.
One phone call changes her fate. There’s been a horrible accident. Her sister Paige is no longer able to be the world’s biggest stage mom to her talented 9 year old niece Emma. And Emma’s world has just been silenced. With no memory or ability to do everyday things, this child’s suddenly living in a big scary world of dark abyss.
With a mindset of love and determination, Whitney sets out to work with anyone and everyone in order to give her niece some semblance of a life again. She’s willing to give up everything to make sure that little girl comes out of this as a whole person again. With months of losses blooming into newfound freedoms, friendships and more this duo turns the corner into a world of brighter days!
Danielle Steel takes on one of today’s most controversial topics, texting and driving, in her latest novel. Paige Watts, stage mother extraordinaire, runs her daughter Emma’s career with the precision of a military campaign. Only nine years old, Emma lives a life that is a continual flow from work on a hit show to Broadway auditions to dance lessons and on to acting lessons.
All it takes is one incident of texting and driving while running behind schedule to forever change the life of Paige and Emma Watts. Emma goes from a talented young star to a bewildered, brain damaged child with no verbal skills and minimal memory. Her life is changed forever as a result. Her mother is dead and her life will never be the same.
Whitney Watts, Paige’s sister, runs a thriving psychiatric practice in Los Angeles with no plans for marriage or children. As Emma’s only living relative, Whitney immediately steps in to care for Emma during what will be a long battle to come back from the isolated world she endures as a result of the accident. Resilient, determined, and unwavering in her care for Emma, Paige helps Emma learn that anything is possible if you don’t give up. A sad, but uplifting story!
This ARC copy was received from Delacorte Press and Netgalley.com. The above thoughts and opinions are wholly my own.
What a wonderful surprise this book was. Haven’t read her books in years b/c they were so predictable. This was a refreshing story! A severe brain trauma and the heartache of trying to get over it. Of course some romance along the way never hurt .
