EFFYMy name is Effy McPhee. Life hasn’t always been kind to me, that is—until Stella. God gifted me with the most amazing daughter. I have one job: to teach her that true strength comes from kindness, love, and compassion. I vowed I would lead by example. I thought it would be easy. However, through no fault of my own, I fear I have failed her. This is the story of my life cut short.FITZI’m on … short.
FITZ
I’m on vacation. At least, that’s what everyone keeps telling me. I was just supposed to take a quick look at a case. What I ended up with was a very desperate six-year-old, clinging to me like her life depended on it. Little did I know, it did. Nothing is ever what it seems, it never is.
Intended for 18+ mature readers only.

Kept me on the edge of my seat not only for the story itself but waiting for the synopsis to be fulfilled. Well written and suspenseful. Just wondering when Fitz will realize there’s a new romance budding between two of his close friends and he was the unintentional match maker.
After solving a massive serial killer and finally claiming the woman he has loved all his life, Fitz is ready to start his vacation and prepare with MJ for the birth of their baby.
But Fitz is a detective in demand. He’s got a brain that doesn’t think like everyone else. When his captain calls him in just for a quick look at a case, Fitz finds himself no embroiled in the case after a 6-year old begs him to find her mother.
However, soon Fitz finds that this case isn’t something that will be easy, nor will it be an open and shut case. The little girl’s mother, who was taken, just happens to be a Senator’s daughter. On top of that, after working with a college student, they soon learn they have an entire human trafficking ring that is responsible for the kidnapping. Fitz doesn’t know who to trust because some of the evidence they have collected has some pretty damning evidence on people high up, including the now dead VP’s head of security and a mole in the police force.
This book…
Man. Just when you get your hopes up for Effy…*sigh* and her father really is a piece of work.
Every move any of these character make is watched. But who can be trusted?
I was really sad about Andy and Stephen. But alas, I can’t say I blame either character, but I didn’t really like that Stephen did turn a bit nasty when leaving.
Fitz is on vacation awaiting the birth of his and MJ’s first child. Fitz stops by the station to take a quick look at a case and meets a young scared, deaf young girl named Stella . Stella witnessed her Mom being kidnapped and Fitz being Fitz vows to find Stella’s mother Effy. This leads to an intriguing novel of suspense drawing us deep into the world of human trafficking What I love most about this page turner is the relationship between the characters and the underlying themes of adoption and disabilities (deafness and parkinson’s). Although not necessary, I suggest reading the first book in this series to appreciate the love and loyalty Fitz and MJ have to each other and their friends and family (and their family and friends to them). An amazing series that I highly recommend.
I love love love what is a topic in this book! Ok let me be specific…the silent part. It adds an interesting element to the story. And at the beginning of every chapter is a lovely refresher tool listed under the characters name. Genius! I have to say I reacquainted myself with those letters!
I really enjoyed this second book in the Fitz series. While reading the first book is not necessary this one does include many of the same characters so your reading experience would be enhanced it you did. There are many emotions and some surprises along with disappointment in this story. It is great to see so many reoccurring characters and I enjoy some of the bantering they all do. Fitz is one busy guy and he is constantly on the move throughout the book. Translation is this book is full of activity! He is one smart cookie and I enjoy his skills and thought process. The parents had a nice part and they both add much to the story. Fitz paying Stephen a dollar for his family discount service. I still Love it! Also the issue of who will be putting the crib together…ha ha classic Fitz!
This author did a good job at weaving a story with multiple layers of characters while staying true to the main group. I will look forward to reading the next Fitz story because I’m sure it will be full of action. Oh before I forget. I love the cover and the title of this book! Such a sweet face.
Mesmerizing, masterfully crafted criminal espionage! A mother snatched in front of her child, human trafficking, accidents and murder wrapped in a thrilling page turner. Fitz, MJ, Travis Olivia and the other fascinating characters are back in an action-packed new book. This is a standalone read. Unfortunately, it’s the last book in the series. Hopefully these characters, and more, will show up in a new adventures!? 4 1/2 stars.
Voluntarily read ARC for honest review.
Hi
This is the second book I’ve read in the series and I hope there will be more. I love fitz and his family.this was a great suspense story of human trafficking and a young deaf girl who’s mother is kidnapped in front of her. Fitz is like a dog with a bone will he be able to find her mom before she is no longer useful.
This is the second book in the Fitz Series, I couldn’t put it down. The book has everything from drama, mystery, and love. The author takes the topic of human trafficking and handles it with care. My emotions were all over the place while reading this book. This is a series worth reading.
I just finished the first book in this series and started Silent Innocence it is just a good as the first one filled with mystery, crime, drama and love. The story hooked me almost from the first page, I could not put it down. This is a very emotional story that pulls the reader in keeping you invested in the story of one little girl as you read about her your emotions will be all over the place. I thought the author did a wonderful job dealing with touchy issues of human trafficking giving you the true feelings but in a way it was a little easier to deal with. Not saying this is something that is easy to deal with it is a serious issue that we should all be concern with. The author writes in a way that really touches you deeply wanting you to reach in and pull the characters out but is done with class giving it a feeling of realistic but not over bearing.
I really like Fitz and getting to know him as we saw in the first book he is a man with character, honor who loves his job and his family. I really got to know him and MJ in the first book, it was wonderful to see her again. She is now married to Fitz, giving him the support he needs to do the job he does. It is wonderful how these two deal with life and the support they give each other.
The author gives a well written story with many twists and turns, leaving Fitz not knowing who he can trust. This is a story about love, hope and family, giving, with suspense, mystery, action, and a few thrills and chills. It is a very emotional roller-coaster ride that keeps you so invested you are done with the book before you know it. I really hated to leave this characters behind and can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
