If you’ve read the Zodiac series, you’ll know that this duo writes an amazing mystery/suspense/thriller story. I wasn’t sure this was going to be as good and suspenseful as that, but it’s even better. This has corruption, crooked cops, vigilantes and more questions than answers. Detective Jake Thomas has seen more than anyone should have and is ready to retire. He just has one last job and a new trainee who is bright and eager to start. Jo Calloway is excited to be a detective but Jake is moody and intimidating and now that they have a new case, they are in a race to find a killer who is killing crooked politicians.
I’m loving this story that is tense and suspenseful. With this first book we’re given a lot of clues and I’m anxiously awaiting the next book. I expect the next book will be just as puzzling. A great new series by a proven duo that will keep you guessing until the very end. Highly recommended. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
I loved this thriller, including the technique of action serial killer found by the authors, quite original, and their characters and their link.
They are excellent with a Jake, disillusioned by corruption, worn out by his work as an investigator of crimes, two weeks away from a retreat that only him he’s wanting, but not his superiors; and a young woman, Jo, who, on the contrary, takes over from Jake, is exalted by the work she has had to do to keep up with the machismo surrounding the police stations.
The narrative is punctuated by the successive murders of the serial killer “The Hangman” who, as his name says, hangs his victims after having made them play the hangman game, with a knife variant, letters and a gallows of blood from the victim. Quickly, we understand that the victims were all people who, under the guise of the law, had passed the wrong side of the road.
The descriptions are quite graphic, a little hard but in few scenes.
Because of the investigation it is difficult not to say too much about it, but in any case, the story does not lack of twists.
Has done wrong by justice

I love a book that keeps me guessing. This one does that in spades. There are so many possibilities here. All of them are good and all of them are equally horrifying. Like Darek Blake before him, Jake Thomas is caught in the middle of a mess with no easy way through. I learned my lesson with the Zodiac series: no one is going to be what they appear. We have a city full of corruption and a taunting vigilante, and I have no idea how this is going to play out – or even who I should trust – but I’m desperate to know what comes next.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
DANGLING for MORE!
This is one heck of a starter for this series because it is INTENSE! The page turning suspense had me hooked and dangling by a thread waiting for it to snap or to give me a stronger foothold as more of the twists unfurl more puzzles to be solved sending my mind spinning and adrenaline surges hyping me up wanting the answers that refuse to reveal them selves. I don’t know how All & Lexi come up with this stuff but I Love it. I was a huge fan of their Zodiac Killers series and this is proving already to be just as Darn Good. Exciting, eye-catching twists, bits of adrenaline, great chemistry, nail-biting suspense, edgy, intense and impossible to put down. A fantastic must read.
A suspenseful storyline with fantastic characters that kept me on the edge of my seat. This does end with a cliffhanger but will definitely make you want to read the next book. Jake is a detective who has turned in his notice after being on the force for many years. Jo is the new detective to replace Jake. She is detail oriented, takes her work home and determined to solve the hangman serial killings. W. L. Knightly is an exceptional writer who grabs your attention from beginning to end. The details written for the storyline and characters makes you feel like you are there with them experiencing everything they are. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I was so excited when I found out that this amazing duo will write another mystery crime series! I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book and it definitely didn’t disappoint! Detective Jake is ready for his retirement, but the killer on his last case has different plans for him. This book will definitely capture your attention right from the start. It’s intriguing, suspenful and full of mystery. I’m already addicted and can’t wait for the next book!

Another page turning, whodunnit by the author of the Zodiac murder series….Keeps you on your toes but does end in a cliffhanger.
How far will some go to see justice served?
That is what Detective Jake and his trainee and soon to be replacement Officer Jo need to find out.
A deadly game of Hangman, with more questions than answers, vigilante justice, crooked cops, simmering connections, and an eerily fascinating start – woo! It’s official I am hooked!
WL Knightly returns with another dark, mystery-laden, suspense wielding hotbed of crime and passion- BRING IT ON!!
I’m really enjoying the writing style of WL Knightly! This was an awesome first book for the series. Of course this ends in a cliffhanger but isn’t that what suspense is?
Detective Jake Thomas joined the force to make a difference, but has become jaded by the corruption that surrounds him. He has two weeks to get his replacement familiar with protocol. They are called to a murder scene, where the victim has been hung. Dubbing the killer The Hangman, he likes to toy and play games with his victims. He leaves them clues but no evidence. He’s a vigilante of sorts, ridding Spokane of corruption.
