In this Detective Luca novel the sleuth investigates the gangland style execution of a prominent local businessman who lead a colourful life,
I loved the intricacies of the case, Luca’s relentless and dogged determination to find the killer and his endless fascination with each new achievement of his baby daughter. If you’re a fan of police procedure novels you’ll love this one as much as I did.
Detective Frank Luca is back conducting criminal investigations to catch a killer and seek justice for the victim and family. Luca and Derrick solidify their partnership. For the first time, I feel like they are a real team.
As a brand new father, Luca sees the world differently. The horrors of the world keep him up at night. There are many heartwarming scenes between Luca and his baby. It’s Luca at his best.
Working a case of a murderer billionaire from a prestigious family takes tact. Something Luca is not known for. The case goes in all sorts of directions and explores some very serious issues. I had no idea who the killer was and shocked when it was revealed.

I enjoyed this book. It contains a good mix of home and cop life, without the expense of the other. I did feel the ending crept up on you and then ended, as they were concentrating on one suspect and then arresting another but otherwise I enjoyed it. This is book seven in the series and while it is not necessary to have read or listened to the others I think it helps flesh out the background story and the trails the characters have gone through to get to this point if you have. I like the characters and that is what has me coming back to this series, they are human not super hero’s that spot every clue and knows exactly what it means. In others words they puzzle out the mystery. I like the authors style of writing because there are plenty of twists to keep you guessing and there was a lot of different possible motives but it wasn’t overly complicated. Looking forward to what the author has in store for Luca next.
Luca is called to the scene of another highly prominent rich man’s murder. Like all rich men he had made a number of enemies included in amongst them is his wife, who he constantly cheated on, his ex girlfriends who had a habit of suing him, his ex business partner who lost millions on a bad business deal and all the fans that didn’t want to see there team moved. It’s up to Luca to find the killer but when another body is discovered Luca has to ask the hard questions are they connected and if so was it over drugs? Or even child abuse?
I liked the narrator. His gritty voice is just prefect for the flawed but tough personality of Luca.
