As a young child, Killian Foster survives the unimaginable. Silenced and scarred, he keeps to himself, spending his time with his notebook in the woods behind his aunt’s house. Until Rylee Anderson… the silence that would follow.
Fighting between the hate of his past and the promise of his future, Killian must make choices—ones that would affect more than himself. Choices that would test the lines of right and wrong. Decisions that could break the bond of the only love Killian knew.
Hate or love.
Revenge or forgiveness.
Silence or his voice.

SILENCED is one of my favorite books I have read by Leddy Harper. The reason is the main male character Killian Owen Foster.
The story starts with Killian at age eight. He was an unusual child with photographic memory. He remembered everything he saw, like a picture in his head. But on one horrible night, his life was changed forever, and his words were silenced.
When at 11 years old, he felt hopeless. That no one in this world would ever want him. Two angels entered his life. His very young Aunt Elise, who loved him unconditionally, and his ten year old neighbor girl Rylee Anderson. Rylee accepted him just the way he was. Damaged on the inside and outside.
This is a darker read then some of Leddy’s other books, but her writing is the same wonderful:
“So as I stand here right now, I promise to love you through all the tomorrows. I promise to love you until the moon stops lighting the night, until the stars stop leading the way & long after my last breath.” Recommend you read it, too!
When Killian was a young boy, he witnessed his parents being murdered in his childhood home. On that horrific night, one of the murderers left him with a Glasgow smile and told him to be silent.
Ever since then, Killian didn’t speak to anyone and only communicated by hand written messages. None of the kids wanted to be near him because of his scar. But Rylee changed his life. She was the only person he’d talk to. She was the only person that had his complete trust.
Killian and Rylee grew up together and became sexually involved, but Killian knew that in order for him and Rylee to have a future, he needed to find his voice. So he leaves her while she was still finishing up high school.
Rylee doesn’t hear from Killian for 5 years. She has a new boyfriend that is into competitive fighting, and her heart is finally healing. Her life freezes when she realizes that Killian is another fighter going against her boyfriend.
I really liked this second chance romance. The story was erotic and steamy. The only thing that had me a little disappointed was Killian’s method of finding justice. I feel like the 5 years apart was unnecessary and could have all been avoided.
Oh my heart! I have so many emotions where this book is involved. I finished it a couple of days ago and needed to take some time to gather my thoughts before I wrote this review. I went into this book blind and really had no idea what to expect from it. I have never read a book like this before and let me tell you, I will never forget this book. This is the kind of book that stays at the forefront of your brain for years to come.
Killian has experienced horrific things that no child should ever have to go through in their life. He is literally rendered silent from his attackers and what they did to him and his family. A lost and lonely boy, living through one of the worst tragedies you could go through. When he meets Rylee his next door neighbour, he is given a glimmer of hope that life might be able to turn around for him.
This book is told in two periods of time. Once when they Killian and Rylee are children, up until they are teenagers and then five years later when they meet again.
There are so many powerful and poignant moments in this book. One that stands out for me is the first time Killian decided in years to speak. I literally shed so many tears over that moment and another was when he faced his attackers after what they had done to him and his family. This novel will tug on your heartstrings and make you feel every single emotion. It is heavy-hitting and a book that I sincerely think every single person should read.
Killan and rylee meet when they are 11 and 10 years old . Killan has suffered more than any one person should , let alone a kid . he watched his parents murdered and then also suffered at the hands of their murderers. Rylee is hid savior , the one person he wants to be around and “talk” too. They are best friends and soon become so much more . All until Killan breaks her heart . Revenge and hatred can get the best of people . Fast forward 5 years and guess who finds his way back into her life by pure accident , not that he didn’t still want her or live for her. So much more has happened . Is it too much for them two to come back from . Maybe they are both to broken to be together .
I don’t even know how to put my feelings about this book into words. It shook me to my core . You can feel Killans’ pain page after page . I wanted to reach into the book and hug him and save him . Then I felt the same way for Rylee . The love these two share is may have been brought together by an act of pure evil but it was true and beautiful . Maybe a little tortured at times but all the same. This story brought so much emotion in me I don’t even know how to express it . Other books don’t go into such detail about kids tragic past , they kinda gloss over the issue this one did not . it makes the story that much better . it’s like you are on the journey with these two . amazing story .
My all time favorite book
I can’t believe Leddy Harper wrote a story that bumped my favorite book “Home No More” to become my second favorite.
I absolutely love love love Killian. My heart broke for him and the terror that was the start of his childhood. Killian took a vow of silence after seeing his parents brutally murdered when he was 8. He was shuffled around from family member to family member until he was placed with his mother’s younger sister. He bumps into the girl next door while out behind their houses and even though he tries to keep his distance they become friends.
I don’t like writing reviews with any spoilers so I’m going to stop here. I want the you to read the words and feel everything yourselves.
Leddy Harper has an amazing talent of reaching into you soul and shaking you emotions all over the place and she definitely does that with Killian’s story.
