Great series — original wolf/coyote & other supernaturals storyline — all the books are awesome! Highly recommend!
Amazing series! Mercy has to go through many twists and turns to get her happily ever after.
One of my favorite series. I have in both audio and ebook. Well worth it. If you haven’t read the series, you have to start at book 1.
Mercy Thompson is a terrific tough character with a heart of gold. Getting kidnapped and ending up in Europe would be daunting for anyone, but Mercy just won’t quit. The twists and turns keep coming and Mercy has her pack on her side even if they don’t know where she is.
Love this series!
Always love another Briggs book!
I love this series, and Silence Fallen definitely doesn’t disappoint.
i HAVE READ ALL THE MERCY BOOKS AND LOVE THEM ALL. i CAN’T WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE! I LOVE HOW DIFFERENT THESE PARANORMAL BOOKS ARE FROM THE OTHERS. I NEVER KNOW WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. IT IS ALSO GREAT TO READ ABOUT MERCY’S INDIAN HERITAGE AND WHERE IT COMES FROM. IT MAKES THESE BOOKS THAT MUCH MORE IRRESISTIBLE.
Wonderful
Great fantasy series. I love all of the characters.
Silence Fallen has plenty of intrigue, death, fights, & supernatual politics to keep my wayward attention in check. The story is very unpredictable and causes the reader to crave it when they have to put it down. In this edition, Mercy is taken and Adam and his band of merry helpers go to rescue her. But does she really need the help? I suspected one of the helper’s true identity early on, but then thought I may have misinterpreted the scene only to find out later that I had been right, kudos to the author because that’s not always an easy thing to do. Awesome story! The book can be read as a standalone, but why wouldn’t you want to have hours of enjoyment reading the entire series in order?
Silence Fallen is the 10th installment in Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson series. This is a series I have followed since the beginning and waaayyyy before this site ever existed. It is a series that I will continue to read, but the last few books are just missing the pizzazz that the beginning of the series held.
Silence Fallen starts off exciting and the author takes us abroad, swiftly changing the tone and adding in new characters. I thought this new expedition would bring back some of the excitement, but I feel that the lack of of a new over-arching plot is leaving me unsatisfied . Silence Fallen is its own story, but without a larger conflict, my interest and connection was lacking. That being said, it is possible that this installment is the beginning of a new over-arching plot and I just didn’t catch that new thread.
Briggs still does a brilliant job pulling us into the world and creating characters that are realistic, dynamic and sometimes terrifying.
**Spoiler for prior books**
Coyote is becoming a “go-to” for why Mercy ends up every shit creek. I get it. She is a daughter of a trickster god, but using this connection as an ongoing justification is repetitious. Mercy is now only reacting and not actively participating in her own life and this seems to be an ongoing feeling. I expect great character growth in urban fantasy and Mercy seems to be reverting or becoming more basic, not growing.
Overall, I enjoyed it, but expected and wanted more. The world is expanding and I hope a new layer shows up the next book.
So I want to read it over again, now that I know the ending… This was a good story with many other stories woven in. I want to research the Golem of Prague and Beowulf both again, though I’ve heard or read parts of both already. Kudos to Patricia Briggs for this wonderful installment of the Mercy series! — After reading the second time, still loved it! And were the clues really clues?
I couldn’t put it down just like all of patricia’s books
Patricia Biggs has yet to disappoint. Great read as usual……devoured the book in one day,
I absolutely love Mercy and her world. Each book brings Mercy and her crew closer to my heart. The only thing missing is more books about Charles and Anna, I miss them so!
In no uncertain terms, I love Mercy Thompson. She is, hands down, the best tough female protagonist in paranormal fiction/urban fantasy. I particularly recommend her to jaded fans of Anita Blake. If you find yourself embarrassed or disappointed in the way the Anita Blake books are going, I urge you to pick up Mercedes Thompson. She’s tough, a woman in a stereotypically man’s world, humble, but strong, but, in her most important difference from Anita Blake, she’s genuinely likable.
That being said, I’m obviously a die hard fan, so I don’t know how this would fare as a stand alone introduction as it is pretty far into the series. There is a lot of history to unpack here, but it seems that Briggs does a good job of covering it without exhaustive exposition. There is action, magic, fighting, shape shifting, and a little bit of romance, and a tiny bit of for-adults action (as in a few sentences, rather than 90% of the book in the recent Laurell K Hamilton offerings).
One of the things that keeps me grinning through Briggs’ books are the nerd culture references. Yes, Mercy is a magical being in a modern world learning to live with magical creatures, but she also plays an MMORPG and makes Doctor Who reference. What’s not to love?
As usual, this latest in the series is simply wonderful, and I’m hoping there’s more in store for Mercy and Adam in the future! This one takes place almost exclusively overseas so it’s a nice change of scenery. We meet Marsilia’s maker Bonarata, Guccio, the Alpha of the Vltava Pack, a golem and many more new characters. While Mercy and Adam don’t spend a lot of one-on-one time in this one, they each have their own exciting adventures as they work their way back to each other.
