Divorce a husband, lose a career … grapple with a murder.TV journalist Elizabeth “E.M.” Danniher will tell you she committed two sins — she didn’t stay young, and she made an enemy of a powerful news executive — her ex. She used to break national news. Now her top story as the “Helping Out!” reporter at dinky KWMT-TV in Sherman, Wyoming is getting a defective toaster repaired.Tough, funny and … repaired.
Tough, funny and determined, Elizabeth wrestles with isolation, keeping a professional edge, and an evolving self-image. Is Wyoming — the land of cattle, cowboys, tumbleweeds, and fewer than six people per square mile — her new home or a road to permanent obscurity?
Soon she’s in a battle of wills with ex-football player turned journalist Mike Paycik, who might see her as a handy rung on his career ladder or a romantic partner or both. And there’s the matter of a deputy sheriff—missing or murdered? Elizabeth finds herself investigating at the insistence of a girl who’s set on proving her father’s innocence. Not that enigmatic rancher Thomas Burrell makes investigating easy for an amateur sleuth.
But Elizabeth won’t fade to black without a fight, no matter how final some might want to make her SIGN OFF.

I had a hard time keeping track of all the characters all the way to the end. Otherwise it was a good story line. Totally predicted the end, haha.
I am enjoying this series that is set in Wyoming. The characters are likable and there is always a mystery that they get together to solve. A small town tv station adds to the setting.
The Caught Dead in Wyoming series by Patricia McLinn has me hooked. I have read all eight of her entertaining, murder mysteries. McLinn also writes romance novels, but to be honest that genre has never captured my imagination. Give her Caught Dead in Wyoming series a try – you might really enjoy it. Cheers Lynda L. Fun read, believable characters
Not high literature, but when you just want something light to distract from real life it’s an easy read.
I enjoyed the puzzle and the character development.
it was very scary i love it
This series of books is incredibly well-written. I love everything about them except that the romance doesn’t move fast enough. Great books, great author!
Love the characters in this book! Very real. Cant wait to read the next book in the series!
its good
Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. Slow developing plot and the characters did not pull me in. Disappointed
Great murder mystery. Keeps you guessing.
This was a pretty solid whodunit populated with some interesting and quirky characters. The main character, Elizabeth, a somewhat down on her luck reporter, is quick witted and likeable. And I liked that the author didn’t put her MC in situations that were so off the wall that you just can’t suspend disbelief – as a lot of authors do. She also …
Rating PG
This is a straight up mystery story. Rated PG because it’s probably not for elementary age children, but it’s certainly appropriate for middle school up.
No sex
No violence described in depth – it’s a murder mystery so of course there’s been some violence.
No strong language.
Some humor.
The main character is starting new job at a TV …
It is the first of a great series – I can’t wait for the latest of the seven books!
The main character of this book seems to be a copy of other characters such as Jance’s Ali Reynolds. The book was set in Wyoming a few Wyoming details have been added but I would have enjoyed more
Kinda slow starting but then it picked up. Kept you guessing to the end and looking forward to next book!!! Thanks Cindy
Loved this mystery
I liked this authors sense of humor very much!
