Divorce a husband, lose a career … grapple with a murder.TV journalist Elizabeth “E.M.” Danniher will tell you she committed two sins — she didn’t stay young, and she made an enemy of a powerful news executive — her ex. She used to break national news. Now her top story as the “Helping Out!” reporter at dinky KWMT-TV in Sherman, Wyoming is getting a defective toaster repaired.Tough, funny and … repaired.
Tough, funny and determined, Elizabeth wrestles with isolation, keeping a professional edge, and an evolving self-image. Is Wyoming — the land of cattle, cowboys, tumbleweeds, and fewer than six people per square mile — her new home or a road to permanent obscurity?
Soon she’s in a battle of wills with ex-football player turned journalist Mike Paycik, who might see her as a handy rung on his career ladder or a romantic partner or both. And there’s the matter of a deputy sheriff—missing or murdered? Elizabeth finds herself investigating at the insistence of a girl who’s set on proving her father’s innocence. Not that enigmatic rancher Thomas Burrell makes investigating easy for an amateur sleuth.
But Elizabeth won’t fade to black without a fight, no matter how final some might want to make her SIGN OFF.

Love both the characters and the murder mystery in this book. I’m officially hooked on this author’s writing style. I’ve already started on her next book with plans to read the one after that too. Excellent writing style, complex storytelling, and in-depth characters with lots of witty conversations make this one of the best series of books that …
It was ok.
Looking forward to reading more by this author.
Enjoyed it. Will be purchasing the next book in the series.
Humorous, intelligent characters
A good whodunit from the perspective of a TV reporter with plenty of guts and a little girl pushing her to clear her father of murder. The one thing that kept me from giving the fifth star was the lengthy explanation by the killer. Still, it’s worth the read. Entertaining.
Had to have the next installment
You may think you know who did it but you need wait ? it isn’t who you think. waiting to read the next one
A TV reporter is banished to a small town in Wyoming to complete her five month contract. She attempts to untangle a two year disappearance or murder, no one knows.
This story has every emotion possible. (News anchor’s greed, a lazy sheriff, grade school rivalry, a small child asking for help, a town’s compassion and much more).
This is a …
I enjoyed the characters and the story line is true form in small town America
Interesting characters and situation. Great reading!
Couldn’t put this book down!
I would have not completed the book if I weren’t so stubborn: I hate not knowing what I could miss. However, the plot picked up speed by the last quarter. Book One is not so thrilling for me to want to pay for the next ones.
I would not call this series romantic but there is just enough romance to keep a sucker like me entertained while getting involved in the mystery.
Good quality writing
Not the easiest read but I did enjoy this book.
Enjoyed the authors use of the English language. She was very good at developing the plot as well as the characters. I look forward to reading more of her books.
