Divorce a husband, lose a career … grapple with a murder.TV journalist Elizabeth “E.M.” Danniher will tell you she committed two sins — she didn’t stay young, and she made an enemy of a powerful news executive — her ex. She used to break national news. Now her top story as the “Helping Out!” reporter at dinky KWMT-TV in Sherman, Wyoming is getting a defective toaster repaired.Tough, funny and … repaired.
Tough, funny and determined, Elizabeth wrestles with isolation, keeping a professional edge, and an evolving self-image. Is Wyoming — the land of cattle, cowboys, tumbleweeds, and fewer than six people per square mile — her new home or a road to permanent obscurity?
Soon she’s in a battle of wills with ex-football player turned journalist Mike Paycik, who might see her as a handy rung on his career ladder or a romantic partner or both. And there’s the matter of a deputy sheriff—missing or murdered? Elizabeth finds herself investigating at the insistence of a girl who’s set on proving her father’s innocence. Not that enigmatic rancher Thomas Burrell makes investigating easy for an amateur sleuth.
But Elizabeth won’t fade to black without a fight, no matter how final some might want to make her SIGN OFF.

I just discovered this series, and I love it!
Great characters, twists and turns
I found this book to be one of the best that I’ve read recently. The characters were interwoven in a way which keeps the reader entranced as they try to figure out the relationships between them and how they fit into the story. With the side story of the why the main character is where she’s located, the reader gets pulled into the mystery …
I enjoyed this first book in the series. I liked the characters and the story with some suspense to keep it interesting. I will definitely read more of the books in this series!

Good read
Southern style
I found this difficult to get into – as if I’d missed the first book in the series. The “catching-up” of the backstory wasn’t that clear. It took ages to get to grips with all the characters, I was confused about who was who. Having said all that, once I got into the story I was hooked. I enjoyed the small-town TV background and I might be tempted …
Enjoyable read!
Kept me involved and I immediately looked for the next book in the series
I found this book a little slow going in parts and sometimes had trouble keeping the characters straight.
If you ever wondered what it would be like to be in the television newsroom, Patricia McLinn’s SIGN OFF (Caught Dead in Wyoming, Book 1) will take you behind the scenes. I don’t know what I expected of this novel. What I got was an incredibly fun ride down the rabbit hole. E.M. Dannier, Mike Paycik, Thomas and Tamantha Burrell, scary smart …
Danny, an investigative reporter, is exiled to a TV station to do a soft show where she helps neighbors address problems – problems like how to get money back when the purchased item is faulty. Not exactly what she’s used to, but she hasn’t figure out what her next career move should be. Then a little girl, Tamantha, asks her to help her father, a …
I really found this book to be a page turner. I read it in two days. Elizabeth Danniher goes though the same emotions and struggles as most of us. I like that she is flawed and doesn’t always know the answers. Her journey feels real and plausible. Through my enjoyed this book.
I loved getting into the world of TV journalism, from an author who knows it so well. LOVED the mystery, the great writing and the heroine.
Great mystery!!!!! Wonderful story.
It was passing, who fights with someone who wants to help them. However, I didn’t figure it out until later in the book
This girl can WRITE! Smart and witty and pulls you right in! Excellent thank you!
