Divorce a husband, lose a career … grapple with a murder.TV journalist Elizabeth “E.M.” Danniher will tell you she committed two sins — she didn’t stay young, and she made an enemy of a powerful news executive — her ex. She used to break national news. Now her top story as the “Helping Out!” reporter at dinky KWMT-TV in Sherman, Wyoming is getting a defective toaster repaired.Tough, funny and … repaired.
Tough, funny and determined, Elizabeth wrestles with isolation, keeping a professional edge, and an evolving self-image. Is Wyoming — the land of cattle, cowboys, tumbleweeds, and fewer than six people per square mile — her new home or a road to permanent obscurity?
Soon she’s in a battle of wills with ex-football player turned journalist Mike Paycik, who might see her as a handy rung on his career ladder or a romantic partner or both. And there’s the matter of a deputy sheriff—missing or murdered? Elizabeth finds herself investigating at the insistence of a girl who’s set on proving her father’s innocence. Not that enigmatic rancher Thomas Burrell makes investigating easy for an amateur sleuth.
But Elizabeth won’t fade to black without a fight, no matter how final some might want to make her SIGN OFF.

Good read. Good characters. Good plot line.
Refreshing twist in “Cosy Mysteries” category! A heroine who is rediscovering herself after an exceptional big city TV career followed by a messy divorce is reassigned to a small Wyoming town to finish out her network contract. She picks up the pieces and shows what made her a big city success in the first place by solving several local murders …
Absolutely loved reading this book about small town America and the newspaper business.
Having lived in this area, it was fun to read a story set there.
Loved her writing. Loved that she can use words other than swearing to get her message across.
Liked it.
A fun read
A good read, but certainly not remotely comparable to Janet Evanovich–totally different styles.
I got this book as a freebie on Bookbub. A lot of modern mysteries are just women hunting for men with a mystery thrown in, I find them boring. This is a real mystery. I like the careful discovery of clues solving a mystery, even if there are a couple of interesting men about. I like Elizabeth, I like the little town she finds herself in, and …
I especially enjoyed the many twists and turns!!
Intriguing
Good story in an unfamiliar setting. Fun to read.
While the Chapter 1 “preface” was cute, I personally hate the amount of telling rather than showing that was involved. I almost stopped reading. I’m glad I didn’t stop. And while I’m not a fan of first person stories, this is the current trend so I’m getting used to it. That said, This book kept me turning pages to the very end. And she played …
Kept me engrossed.
Kept me interested all the way through. Good characters and hard to guess who did what.
I really liked this book. A page turner….Kept my interest…..
Good read, whole series is good. Well written, relatable characters, plausible situations.
E. M. Danniher divorced her media executive husband and found her own career trashed when she was sent to rural Wyoming to finish out her contract. At first she is bothered by the cabbage rose wallpaper in the drafty rental house as well as the distance kept by her co-workers, who see her as a big city pariah. But Danny has excellent instincts and …
I loved this book! It was a real page-turner for me, with a lot of twists and turns to keep it riveting. Very well written and did great tie-ins with characters and events. I’m definitely planning to read more of her work.
I enjoyed this book so much that I have looked for others by this author.
