Divorce a husband, lose a career … grapple with a murder.TV journalist Elizabeth “E.M.” Danniher will tell you she committed two sins — she didn’t stay young, and she made an enemy of a powerful news executive — her ex. She used to break national news. Now her top story as the “Helping Out!” reporter at dinky KWMT-TV in Sherman, Wyoming is getting a defective toaster repaired.Tough, funny and … repaired.
Tough, funny and determined, Elizabeth wrestles with isolation, keeping a professional edge, and an evolving self-image. Is Wyoming — the land of cattle, cowboys, tumbleweeds, and fewer than six people per square mile — her new home or a road to permanent obscurity?
Soon she’s in a battle of wills with ex-football player turned journalist Mike Paycik, who might see her as a handy rung on his career ladder or a romantic partner or both. And there’s the matter of a deputy sheriff—missing or murdered? Elizabeth finds herself investigating at the insistence of a girl who’s set on proving her father’s innocence. Not that enigmatic rancher Thomas Burrell makes investigating easy for an amateur sleuth.
But Elizabeth won’t fade to black without a fight, no matter how final some might want to make her SIGN OFF.

I truly enjoyed this introduction to Elizabeth “E. M.” Danniher, a news journalist whose divorce ruined both her career as a well-known on-air personality and her personal life. To continue in the profession, she has taken a job at a small TV station in Wyoming where she battles office politics and isolation while being assigned a position that …
The book uses a lot of curse words so I did not finish reading it. I couldn’t get beyond the language which to me is very unnecessary & distasteful. There are plenty of authors which can tell a good thriller without the use of curse words so I’ll continue choosing their books.
A great first in series read with a truly original heroine and intriguing setting. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Elizabeth Danniher, a TV reporter in Sherman, Wyoming, investigates the death of a local deputy sheriff.
McLinn gives us plenty of twists and turns in this fast-paced mystery. Her unconventional protagonist is intelligent, witty and charming. Her settings are vivid.
An enjoyable read.
Okay, I must be honest here and admit that this book appeals to me because it could have taken place right here in my small, rural county in Georgia.
E.M. Danniher, a TV news reporter, ends up in small town Wyoming after her divorce from her TV news reporter husband. Of course, she is just finishing out her contract doing consumer affairs pieces …
I’ve just started reading “cozy mysteries” which I believe is the tag for this book. Patricia McLinn is creative and her characters are believable and quirky. Ms. McLinn had me guessing until the end. I loved this book so much that as soon as I completed it I purchased the next in the series. I would highly recommend.
I really enjoyed reading Sign Off. The characters were well-written and the story was full of plausible red herrings! i look forward to reading the next books in the series.
Excellent build up of characters even if the event relevation and villains seem stretchy. This is the first free story by an author that made me want to read more from the same author.
Very entertaining I could not wait to find out what happened.
Couldn’t put it down. Wanted to see what was going to happen next. Really enjoyed this book.
Loved this book, Brilliant writer, couldn’t put the book down, already started reading the 2nd book in this series.
My favorite mystery series! The plots are fun and well developed, as are the characters. I can’t recommend this series highly enough!
Signing Off is an intelligent and well-paced story with fun characters and interesting plot twists. By today’s standards it’s a wholesome read. I will be buying the sequel.
If I could give 10 stars for this series I would Happily do it Great characters!
Beautifully crafted! I so enjoy a well-plotted book that is not interrupted with elementary grammar errors, and this more than fills that bill. I admit to reading many chick lit books because they are fun and quick reads, but I do love a more cerebral style as well. While the chick lit reads are like dessert, Patricia McLinn offers up a full …
I really got into the story and characters and read several more books in the series
A good read, no holes.
Sign Off is a solid mystery thriller written well. It’s easy to keep going to see what’s around the corner. Nothing stretched to fill in or make a lucky thing happen. Enjoyable.
It’s a good read!!
As a Wyoming native I found it enjoyable. She depicted life here well.
Great characters, good plot twists.
