Sure, … Sure, he has to referee sibling smackdowns, re-learn algebra, ensure his clients stay of jail, and keep his wife happy–but it finally feels like he’s got it together again….So, of course something has to screw it all up.It’s huge. Life-changing. Kind of terrifying. And it will be the most amazing, perfect thing he’ll ever do. A great addition to the Legal Briefs series. Seeing how Stanton, Jake and Brent were living their lives was entertaining and full of laughs.
Part of the Legal Bruef series by Emma Chase. Well written.
Sidebarred is the perfect ending to The Legal Briefs series! Dive back into the lives of the couple that started it all, and fall in love with the series all over again. I adored every moment and feel complete closure now. If you wondered where all of the kids ended up, this will answer everything and leave you with a huge smile (and maybe a few happy tears if you’re like me!)
At first I wanted to read this novella right after Sustained because it’s about Jake and Chelsea, but then I refrained and read the 3rd book first. And I made the right choice, because in this book there’s a sort of epilogue of the extended epilogue we had in Appealed.
Sidebarred is about Jake and Chelsea, like I said. I think the author chose to write this extra story about them because they were the fan favorite and he didn’t appear that much in Brent’s book. While we knew what happened to Stanton and Sofia and Brent and Kennedy, we only knew that Jake and Chelsea got married, but nothing more. We see what happens in their lives now that Jake is 34 and that technically, two years have passed after the end of Brent’s book.
Jake is happily married to Chelsea and loves his kids even though they’re not their biological sons and daughters, and the feeling is mutual. He updates us about what each of them is doing right now and he also confirms that he loves Chelsea to death and that becoming a family man was the best choice of his life. One day, Chelsea tells Jake that she might be pregnant, and Jake’s world spins. Not that he never thought about having a child of his own, but with six kids he thought if he never had one, it was still ok. I like Jake’s reasoning, he’s always rational and comforting and understanding with Chelsea.
Now I don’t want to say much, but if you read Brent’s book, you know that (view spoiler) Well, let’s just say it takes them a while to meet their child.
You need to read this novella if you loved Jake’s book as much as I did. I’m sad that the series is over, but I’m glad that I read it.
This was such a sweet and steamy addition to Jake and Chelsea’s life with their kids and their newest addition. I loved that all of the characters from this standalone series made and appearance in this story. There’s also a 17 years later epilogue that’s just as sweet as the story itself, and not only updates you on the couples but their children also. I look forward to reading more books from this author and this novella is one that shouldn’t be overlooked, especially if you’ve loved Jake and Chelsea’s full story which is a must read before starting this one.
What a fun ending to an entirely funtastic series! Sustained, the story of Jake and Chelsea, was my favorite of the bunch so when I saw that Sidebarred was a wrap-up to their story I had to read it. All those kids…….. What a great ending this is!
Sidebarred quickly takes you through the HEAs of everyone in this series told from Jake’s POV. You get a little of it in the epilogue of Appealed, but this ties everything together with a lot more info. Legal Briefs is such a fun series, much like Emma Chase’s Tangled series. The humor is front and center in the one-liners. I also like how she tells the story from the guy’s POV. Ms. Chase’s writing is raw and real. Her characters come to life and you feel like you’re right smack dab in the middle of it all. As long as you’re OK with raw language (this is told from the guy’s POV remember) and plenty of steam, you’ll love this series.
