Side Hustle has a little bit of everything. There’s a con artist who is fully intent on her next target only to be smacked in the face with reality. Is she a true con artist? That’s debatable. You’ll have to decide. Then, there’s the single father, for all practical purposes, who needs a nanny. Hence the next con. This is a cute, sweet, sometimes steamy story about a con artist who really doesn’t her heart in the game and a single father, who’s still married, looking for a simple nanny who can help to simplify his life. They both get much more than they bargained for. This return to the Dawson family is a bit different than the first two books. It is still filled with the same awesome characters that you’ll get to know on an even deeper level.
Side Hustle is the third book in the Dawson Family Series. It was well written, and entertaining that I had a perma smile while reading it. The characters Scarlett and Weston were complete opposites of eachother, however they had a good connection. I liked them. Scarlett and Weston, both are just getting by, and they will do anything for their families. Wih each story you feel like your part of the Dawson family and your dropping in to see them. I’m enjoying this series and I can’t wait for the next book.
The Dawson family is so entertaining. I really love this series. Emily sucks me right in and makes me feel like a Dawson. I absolutely adore the way this family interacts with one another. Their family is so close and all the Dawson boys and Archer of course are amazingly wonderful men. Can’t wait for more. Couldn’t put it down.
She was desperate. Her brother was halfway around the world and unconcerned with their family and the problems. Her dad was in a home that was sub-par at best dying from years of abusing his body and she battled almost daily against the insurance carrier over his benefits. Her sister in jail for being in the wrong place with the wrong type of people. In a nutshell her life was a mess and so was she. He was ready to enter into a position that would take him away from his son more and needed help. His wife had abandoned him and his son years prior and he couldn’t ask his family for more support than they were already giving plus he needed stability for his son. The first day they knew they had chemistry. The first day she knew she couldn’t follow through on her plan. I do love this author but this time I was left wanting. I loved their story but didn’t like the resolution, I expected it to stir more up. While Wes is the strong and sure one in the family this story doesn’t show that side of him and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not. I love the communication between them for the most part and her desire to be honest above all else when it came down to it but it just didn’t sit as well as my previous reads from this author. I have to say it’s probably me and from the reviews from others I am in the minority so it’s probably just me. I do love her style and these characters so I will be reading more.
Side Hustle is the 3rd book in the Dawson Family Series, but this is my first read from it. All though it can be read as a standalone, it seems as if this series is, interconnected standalones. This dual POV book, was a different kind of romance book than I thought it would be, the blurb really doesn’t do it justice. Side Hustle is the absolute perfect title for the story line. It complements the story very well.
Scarlet Cooper is the blonde bombshell that everyone seems to notice. Having a not so normal child hood, it has shaped her who into who she is today. This Chicago native, does what she has to, to make sure those she loves, are taken care of. She is not one to show vulnerability, and has one heck of a tough exterior.
Weston Dawson is the dad of the year, and single to boot. Between his day job as a cop, and being a full time single father, he has no time for much else. Having his heart put through the shredder once, it was one time too many, and he don’t ever want to go back to that. Being a dad is his priority, and that will never change.
While I did enjoy this book, there is a couple of reasons why I didn’t get those 5 stars from me. I don’t want to give any spoilers away, so I will try to keep it to a minimum.
– I feel like the plot was wrapped up a little to quickly, and that made the story seem unrealistic. I know this is a work of fiction, but this whole book seemed realistic, up until the ending of the plot. Maybe it is just me, but I feel it should have been drawn out a little bit more.
– I would love to know what was going on with the sibling of the h.
-I also wish there was more of an ending. It just ended in the here and now. I am a sucker for epilogues, and that is my fault for loving them so hard, so I won’t fault this author on my love of things.
All in all this was a good one. I would definitely like to read more from this author, as her writing was on point, and her Ii liked how her characters were keeping me on my toes,
* I recommend this book.
*Reviewed for Reviews From the Heart
Bah, why didn’t I start this series sooner?! Side Hustle was my first time read from Emily Goodwin and I gained the new sense that I need to read more of her books. Not only will you love this story, but the characters as well. Now that I’ve naturally started this series at book 3, I’ll be going back to read the first two …
I’ll be honest and say that I was a bit nervous about Scarlet and her con-artist ways. But she turned out to surprise me the most. She’s had a rough go at life and is scrapping at every bit to get to the next day and take care of her family. I may not have agreed with what she does, but underneath all of that is someone with a heart of gold and just wants the best for everyone.
Meeting Weston was just the turn of the tide that she needed in her life, the same with Weston. Their attraction is pretty instant, but Wes tries his hardest to keep their relationship as employer/employee, he didn’t want to cross that line. But it’s easy for things to get blurred once feelings start to form.
Wes is just an all-around great guy and father! A family man, who loves his job and wants to do more for his community by running for sheriff. He’s not one to trust people right away especially when it comes to his son but it didn’t much time at all for Scarlet to win him over. But the one thing that’ll constantly be on the back of your mind as you’re reading is Scarlet’s truth about why she originally took on this nanny gig. And how Wes will react…
I was expecting a major fallout, but Wes surprises us all with his level-headedness and well love truly conquers all in this situation. No one’s perfect and everyone has their flaws, Scarlet knows that and wants to change her ways as she starts to fall in love with not only Wes’ adorable little boy but for him as well.
I really enjoyed this read and the Dawson family is absolutely one to adore! Side Hustle is a read that’ll leave you feeling great by the end, so everyone needs to add it to their TBR!
**I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED FOR AN ADVANCE READER’S COPY**
Emily Goodwin
This was a pretty good read. The writing flowed well for the most part, and I liked the main characters together (eventually). I was NOT a fan of Scarlet at the beginning. I understand that life dealt her a crappy hand, but it doesn’t give you the right to steal from other people, and think it’s okay. She does grow as a character, and like I said, I like her and Wes together eventually. Wes was a good guy, and I was really hoping that he and Jackson would get their HEA. Daisy was a crazy lady, and I wish there was more done about that situation. It was wrote off with an easy resolution, but I would have liked a little more closure. I loved Wes’s family. There were there for each other, and exactly what I like to see in a big family! Although this was a first for me from this author, I will definitely be reading her again.
I voluntarliy reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Side Hustle is a very sweet story between the good guy (perfect guy) and the girl from the wrong side of the tracks. I found the story sweet and pulling on my heart strings and it was a quick easy one sit read. I love a good sweet single dad story and Wes is truly the perfect man And all that Scarlet went through her life and her difficult upbringing really had me rooting for a happy ever after for her. While I do feel the story felt a little choppy in parts and predictable my heart was truly pulling for the characters and hoping they could make it through all the obstacles ahead.
It was a beautiful story and I really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more books in this series. I recommend this book, this series and this author.
