Obsession. Heartbreak. Turmoil. That’s how this story beginsSick fixation…Wicked temptation…Cracked facades slowly expose everything we hid from the other. All the pretty lies bleed into ugly truths.Rhett Sullivan? He doesn’t exist. And Nova Markov? She’s dead.
This is the 2nd part of Rhett and Nova’s story that I felt like there was just something that was missing I couldn’t put a finger on it don’t get me wrong it was still good it still had me turning pages to see what happened next. I would still recommend it, because there are secrets revealed.
This duet is probably one of my most anticipated reads of 2019 and now that its over I’m kind of sad . This was a fast read and I wish we could of got a little more but it overall was a fantastic read and I really enjoyed the fact that we got a lot of the answers to questions from the first book answered . I love Nova and Rhett as a couple and think they are perfect for each other and I am really excited for Callum and Emerys story to come. This book was a dark and twisted new adult romance packed full of secrets , lies and a hea ending and was unlike anything I’ve read by Natalie Bennett. The chemistry between Nova and Rhett is hot and on fire and I can’t wait to see where she takes us with Callum and Emery .
*** I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book ***
“Chaos entered my life without having the decency to knock first”
This was the conclusion to Nova & Rhett (Rhys) story & I could not put it down. Packed full of chaos, lies, secrets & chemistry… this was one heck of a fast paced conclusion. I only wish this book was longer because I really wasn’t ready for it to end. Sick Remedies definitely wasn’t as dark as some of Natalie Bennett’s others…BUT I really liked that aspect… this book was different, unique & most definitely one of my favorites & I am super excited for Callum & Emery’s book in 2020′
What a finale to Nova and Rhett story they definitely were perfect for each other their remedy for one another. I was hoping there would be more of action. but still the intensity and the twisted of their story was a great read.
Yassss!
I never come to Bennett looking for hearts and flowers. I come when I want my brain messed with, when I wanna explore the other sides of people, the sides they don’t want to show, and this duet was filled with these things!
Rhett & Nova burned bright in book one, but we sure got to the underbelly of a lot of things in part 2.
Now, all I need is Emery & Callums story and I’ll be a content little lamb….
You can’t even know how much it pains me to give any of Natalie’s books less than 4 stars but it would be a disservice to others to lie about how I felt about this book.
This book is the follow-up to Sweet Poisons, which I 5 starred the hell out of. I knew going in to that book it was a duet at the time, so I didn’t expect everything to be flushed out detail wise. It was an introduction to characters, setting up the plot and whatnot. So when that book ended on a cliffhanger, I wasn’t upset. I was pretty excited as to what was to come.
Well, I did not get what I wanted.
It wasn’t as dark as expected it to be and maybe it was just me, but I felt confused at the goings-on in the book. Some things were left unexplained and were just plain missing from the story. Questions that needed answered, weren’t. Ultimately, I was just lost.
I wanted the plot to be flushed out more, along with the characters. I need details, folks. Don’t get me wrong, I love most of these characters. I could do without Em as the bestie. I think she’s a whiny little bitch. Her and Callum’s book is next and I’m not sure if I want to read it or not honestly. Anyway, the main pair Rhett and Nova are a helluva couple. Love them.
“This isn’t a fairytale. I’m not a hero, princess. Especially not for you. I never will be, but I can be your favorite villain.”

Eh, I really wanted to love this book. I tried my best to put all the pieces of this book’s puzzle together, but in the end, I just couldn’t.
I am speechless. My heart is in my throat because I loved this book so much I wish I wasnt done reading it. Rhett/Rhys is a dreamboat. Yea he is a little insane but I am HERE FOR IT. And Nova is just the most perfect heroine. Feisty and protective and bad to the bone. I cannot wait to read the last book when it comes out. This was perfectly executed
I love Natalie Bennett her books are always filled with so many twisted and turn you can’t help but feel like your on one epic rollercoaster ride. This is not a standalone it picks up right where book 1 leaves off. I really enjoyed the story I just wish it gave more answers than questions. Honestly, I cant wait to see what Natalie does next.

/ : Sick Remedies (Pretty Lies, Ugly Truths Duets, #2) by Natalie Bennett is book two of the Pretty Lies, Ugly Truths dark romance duet and the conclusion of Rhett and Nova’s story. Anyone who follows me knows that I am a HUGE fan of Natalie Bennett, she is the Queen of Dark and I have loved everything she’s put out and the majority of those releases were all 5-star reads for me, including Sweet Poisons (Pretty Lies, Ugly Truths Book 1), so it pains me to do this. But with Sick Remedies… I liked it, but I just couldn’t LOVE it.

I HATE to do this, I really do. As I said, Natalie is the Queen of Darkness, she has a crazy, dark, and twisted imagination that usually makes for some amazing dark and delicious characters… but I wasn’t feeling it with this one. Rhett and Nova are actually pretty tame compared to what I’m used to from Natalie.

As far as the plot, even though it seemed like there was a lot going on, it was like nothing ACTUALLY happened. I know that probably doesn’t make sense but it is what it is. I tried to understand that other characters would be getting books to so I’m sure more of the never-ending questions will be answered then but I’m just still so damn confused. After reading Sweet Poisons readers were left with LOTS of questions that I assumed most of which would be answered in book two, Sick Remedies so I was okay with that. It added to the suspense. But now that I’ve read Sick Remedies I feel like I STILL have no answers to any of those questions. I’m just as confused as I was when I finished book one.

I know that a couple of the secondary characters will also be receiving their own stories, I’m pretty sure as of now there are at least another two books, so I’m HOPING that maybe the story will become a little clearer once we get everyone’s story. I still would have liked to have had a bit more answered between this duet, But with all that said, I’m still a huge Natalie Bennett fan and I’ll still be reading Emery and Callum’s book next, Sweet Nothings.

/: As far as the romance/steam factor, this one was actually kind of low for me. Sweet Poisons was HOT, but with Sick Remedies, it felt like everything was just more rushed and because of that, the depth between Nova and Rhett didn’t feel as strong this time around. I just didn’t FEEL it between them as much as I did in Sweet Poisons.

/: Not exactly a cliffhanger… Yes, there is a “happily ever after” for Rhett and Nova, but there are several secondary characters that still have stories to tell and several questions that are still unanswered.

Don’t piss off Nova. If you get anything out of this review, get this one thing. Don’t. Piss. Off. Nova. Just don’t.
I have read Natalie Bennett’s books. I loved every single one of Natalie Bennett’s books I have read. What blows my mind is that brain of hers. Each character of hers is twisted in their unique way. There is no comparison between her books. Technically they should each have their shelf in the library.
In this series, there are twists, turns, loop the loop, inverted, and turned upside-down moments. And then she adds in a dash of the dark, bloody, deadly into the mix and you get perfection.
In Sick Remedies (Pretty Lies, Ugly Truths 2) we get down in the nitty-gritty of who Nova is and who Rhett is. And Nova is freaking scary. End of story. She is the sleeper cell that no one expects. This is Natural Born Killers staring Rhett and Nova.
If you love dark, twisted, crazy books that take you out of your everyday life. Then pick up this series. You will freaking love it.
“Behind the most innocent faces, always lurks something they want to keep hidden.”
“We’re all a few genetics away from being insane.”
Sick Remedies is the final book in this beautifully twisted duet and after reading that suspenseful ending of book one, I was so excited to know the conclusion to Rhett and Nova’s story.
The story continued where it left off with Nova slowly learning the secrets surrounding her identity, the depth of her father’s involvement in some shady deal, and the truth of her parent’s death.
I admit some of the questions I had on the first book was answered here, but I felt that there is something more, involving Nova’s father especially. Let’s not forget Nova’s identity that has been hinted at, but I still feel not fully answered. Thank god there will be a follow up later and another standalone in this world. Overall, I still enjoyed reading the twisted love story of these two characters and couldn’t wait for Callum and Em’s book.
One might say “What, you enjoy those dark romances?” My answer, yes. Not sure why. I think it may be because you watching for that glimmer of hope that there is some gentleness, kindness, caring that is bound to come out at some point. How did the character(s) get this way? There must be a way to bring them out of the dark. Ms. Bennett takes me to the dark side with her characters and stories, and yes, I enjoy my time spent there. Will you travel to the dark side? I can recommend this duet if you have a flashlight to get you out!
I received an advanced reader copy, and this my honest and voluntary review.
Sick Remedies is book 2 in Natalie Bennett’s Pretty Lies, Ugly Truths duet and was an anticipated read for me. This being said I felt although I liked the book it did not meet all the expectations that I had for it. Natalie Bennett is dark, twisted, and I love her black soul because it speaks to mine. I can’t pinpoint exactly what Sick Remedies is missing, but whatever it is, it’s keeping me from giving 5
stars. I love Rhett and Nova and it only grew with this book. I love the struggle Nova had going on with her feelings for Rhett. Sick Remedies was a quick short read. I feel like when you read a short book you should get more action quicker. With Sick Remedies I didn’t get that. This book left me needing more. I just feel like the story was finished. But like I always say “you can’t 5 star every read”
I will still be reading all things Natalie Bennett, and I will be over here waiting impatiently for her next book.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Obsession. Heartbreak. Turmoil. that’s how this story begins. Sick fixation..Wicked temptation. Cracked facades slowly expose everything we hid from the other. All the pretty lies bleed into ugly truths. Rhett Sullivan? He doesn’t exist. And Nova Markov? She’s dead.
This is the second book in the Pretty Lies, Ugly Truths Duet. You need to read Sweet Poisons or you’re not going to know what is going on in Sick Remedies. This is where you get all the answers to everything that was happening in Sweet Poisons. Or maybe. I think that is why this isn’t a five star review for me. I wanted the answer to one specific question and I never really got the answer as to exactly what this was that everyone was willing to die for. It’s good don’t get me wrong I was just disappointed that I like to know exactly what was on this flash drive. So if your looking for that answer your going to get a vague answer to that but not the entire thing. However the rest of the book you will devour and it is good. Will keep you one the edge of your seat like you expect.
I was left still feeling like this story was unfinished, which was frustrating for a lot of reasons. There’s a really great plot buried under the gratuitous violence, meaningless death and dark Romeo-Juliet vibes, often with consent issues ranging from dubious to blatant. I get what the author is after, but there’s pieces of this story still missing.
The whole plot around Nova’s father and the things that Rhett is ‘protecting’ her from are left mostly unexplored. I needed more here. I wanted all these sociopathic characters to go one more step. As it was, they had begun to feel less than human, and I was unsympathetic to nearly everyone by the end.
Perhaps a third book could resolve this, or some edits. Idk. I wanted to love this one, it just didn’t quite get there for me.
3 1/2 stars
This second book continues on straight from book one, Sweet Poison. The story just as dark and nearly as messed up but things do start to become clearer, gradually.
Lots of drama and action happen to create an exciting storyline but immersed in the drama is a sprinkling of rather good humour. Yes, it’s often sarcastic but nonetheless it is witty and does make you chuckle.
The lead characters, Nova and Rhett..or are they?, do a dance for much of this second story where they’re both determined to win and come out on top. I have to admit I couldn’t help but like Rhett just that little bit more; yes he’s extremely alpha, deviant and self assured but he is also caring and determined to have the person he’s fallen for too.
With more pieces of the puzzle fitting together and more character building the story flies by however I feel there could have been more depth added to the story so that was why I gave it this rating. The ending however was perfect!
So this is the second part to the pretty lies, ugly truths duet and again I did enjoy this as I have said previously I really do enjoy this author’s twisted imagination and sick remedies has two unapologetic deviant characters right at its centre which was a definite plus in its favour.
I have a soft spot for the wicked and unrepentant and this did deliver on that front.
I do still believe though this would have been better served as one complete novel rather than split into two smaller bitesize offerings, it loses some of its punch this way.
Also, I did feel this left me with some unanswered questions and the ending as well also seemed rather abrupt.
I definitely would like some of the blanks her filled in as I still have questions.
Despite that, this was still an interesting read that I enjoyed and this author does manage to sell me on the unredeemable so for that reason this gets a thumbs up from me.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Sick Remedies (Pretty Lies, Ugly Truths Duet Book 2).

This is the 2nd part of this fascinating duet and continues straight on from where “Sweet Poisons” ended. This is a fast paced read which is dark and twisted as well as having drama, suspense, and romance which all lead to an intense and riveting tale. Be aware that this story may contains triggers for some readers. I look forward to reading more from this talented author.
This second part of the Pretty Lies, Ugly Truths duet, is a quick read which racks up the body count from the first part. Some of these were, to me, a surprise, and I did find myself questioning them as a part of a character development, though this could also be seen as aspects of character already there. Apart from this, the story has a hard edge, some hot scenes and a satisfactory wrapping up of Rhys and Nova’s relationship.
Sick Remedies picks up right where sweet Poisons left us bringing the duet to an end.
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it, I FLOVE Rhett and Nova!! The lies, deceit, suspense in this book will keep you on your toes.
I felt this book was a little rushed but not enough for me to complain about.
This is a duet I need to own on PB
