I’ve survived it before, the loss of Colson Hayes. Experienced that tingling feeling of hope off my fingertips, one that begged me to hold on for dear life, only for it to melt away. Some people get a second chance but it was the second slap to the face by a vengeful past that always seems to sweep in and destroys us.I can’t compete with this one. Nor can I fend off the loss that swallows me … that swallows me whole.
He learns my truth, the very one that was supposed to set us free from the decade-old angst we had for each other.
But then I learned his.
And with that new little piece of reality, karma dealt us a hand that once again triggered the act of our demise.
One I wasn’t ready to play.

This is the final instalment of the Bases series.
Colson has had his whole world turned upside down when his ex comes back with news, that they may not be done. While trying to figure out how to deal with it, Sawyer sees something but not the whole thing. Can he ever show Bases how she is his whole world? That nothing can keep them part, especially the past. Can you really have everything that you wish for, and keep the woman of your dreams?
Sawyer has had to take many blows in the last year, and feels like the knocks keep coming and getting stronger. Should she try and let in the man she thinks of as hers? Can her stand taking the chance and letting the walls down, that she has painstakingly built to protect itself?
You will have to read on to find out if Colson and Sawyer can really take the world on and figure out how to ride this crazy thing we call life and deal with the ups and downs.
The end.
What?! No!
I want more, I NEED more.
It’s over?!
What do you mean, it’s over?
Oh my God, I can’t believe this is it: no more Sawyer and Colson.
Their journey reached the end, at least with us joining them for the ride.
They’ll keep doing their thing.
I hope maybe someday, Hazel Grace can give us a little more of them – a glimpse into their lives.
So, how am I going to do this without spoiling anything? Don’t worry, I think I got it.
We left Double Play feeling that familiar somber ache that we’ve got accustomed to in the complicated world of Hayes and Bases. And we’re jumping right back into it.
Staying true to their essence, the push and pull continues and every. Damn. Thing keeps getting in the way.
I swear, the world is out to get them and just won’t give them a break. I truly don’t think I’ve ever read a couple with more trials, tribulations and shitt* timing than these two. Jesus Christ, my poor heart can’t handle all these twists and turns.
Sawyer is once again faced with the possibility that everything good she has been experiencing was nothing but a terribly vivid dream that is turning into the old, recurring nightmare: Hayes messing up. Royally. Again.
Our saving grace is knowing that Colson is it for the long run and won’t let anything stand in the way of what he wants. We’ve known him long enough to know what that means. Come hell or high water, he won’t stop until he gets the girl. His girl. Forever. It’s about time to get this over with. No more waiting. No more wasting away precious seconds.
It’s heartbreaking and heart-melting all at the same time to truly see all the sides of Colson Hayes. Reading all about their relationship in high school and how everything ended, and then his life afterwards, was painful and beautiful.
I didn’t think I could love him anymore but Hazel Grace accomplished the impossible and provoked all the feelings while showing us a different, more vulnerable side of the boy with I-don’t-give-a-f*ck attitude.
Sawyer did some soul searching and healing of her own and with that – plus, a push from cruel life itself – she decided that nothing would ever again come between the two. And because we also know intrepid Bases all too well, let’s just say she’s not backing out. No chance.
I don’t think it is a spoiler to say that there is a happily-ever-after here. After all, after 4 books you had to know it was coming. It was inevitable. Hell, I’ve been craving it since book 1. But I wouldn’t change a thing about this adventure I embarked on, because all the things they went through, good and bad, made them who they are in the end. Finally together.
Unseparable. Stronger. Happy.
Colson and Sawyer will forever be one of my favorite couple, for all of those reasons; not just because of how they were with eachother – the banter, the steamy times and their overall personalities – but also what they had to go through to finally be in eachother’s arms.
Hearts broke and were mended so many times, and they kept beating. Barely.
I’m super excited to see what comes next from Hazel Grace. I think I said it before but I’ll say it again: for her flawed characters with twisted morals, gut wrenching words and beautiful stories, there’s always gonna be a place in my heart and my TBR list.
Bye Bases. Bye Hayes.
To craving someone like a bad high.
Shutout is the final book in Colson and Sawyer’s story. I loved it alot. I think this one might be my favorite. I loved loved Colson in this book. He was cocky, swoony and sexy. Colson and Sawyer are just sizzling and perfect together! Great series
Hazel knocked this book out of the park! By far my favorite in this series and gave us such an incredible ending to this series. There were so many twists and turns I did not see coming that literally kept me from wanting to put this book down. We’ve watched Colson and Sawyer push and pull each other in the past books but to watch them fight for their present and future was so beautiful to read. My heart is so full after finding out what finally happened all those years year and how they overcome more tragedy and curveballs neither one of them saw coming. Completely worth the wait for this ending.
I am so sad to see this series end!! This is the 4th (and last) book of the Bases series and it was everything! I love the way each book goes back and forth from the past to present so we get a lot of the characters history and why things have happened. Hazel outdid herself with this series and I can’t wait to read more of her stories!
This final book of Colson and Sawyer doesn’t leave anything out and finally tells everything that happened and it will pull at your heart and fill you so many emotions your head will spin. With every page you read you find out more and more and than the blanksare filled like a big boom. Amazing read and won’t leave you empty. Can’t wait to read more from her.
I’m so elated and sad to be writing this review. I love, absolutely love Colson Hayes. He is mine . And I while I absolutely love the book, I’m so sad this was the last one.
Grace once again mad me swoon for bad boy Colson Hayes. He is such an alphahole, so wicked, so mean, so powerful. He is one of my favorite male characters. But, dang, Grace, did a number on me with him.
And Sawyer, aaahhh, Sawyer. I love Sawyer, and Shutout reminded me why. She is so fierce, so strong, even if she melts like an ice cream cone on a hot day for Colson.
Grace, blew me away. I went through so many emotions. A fantastic ending for a fantastic series!
What an ending!!!
I’ve been on my seat with each book, ready and waiting for the big finale and this book didn’t disappoint.
Just when you think it there can’t be any more angst- she pulls something to throw us through the wringer, but that ending! THAT ENDING!!!!!!!
Worth every cliffhanger.
We finally get to the ending of the Bases series and I am so sad it is over, but also so excited to see the finished storyline. Colson and Sawyer have had their ups and downs, the have gone from love to hate and back to love than ended in hate so many times it was like whiplash. But in the end can the two finally get their HEA or will their true connection be marred by the baggage from the past. The reader finally gets the answers they were waiting for while at the same time are noting that Karma really is a bitch and never forgets no matter how much time has passed. I absolutely loved these characters and I have said it once and i will say it again – there is nothing better than romance and baseball.
