It’s a destination wedding, Fate, Texas style, and the thermostat isn’t the only thing about to hit its boiling point.
Lulu Nichols has lost the love of her life.
Her best friend, Derek, proposed to someone else. He’s marrying someone else. And oblivious to her feelings, he’s asked her to play best man at his wedding. She can’t say no, not without admitting her secret and ruining everything, so she pastes on a smile and heads to Mexico to watch the man of her dreams get his happily ever after, even if it isn’t with her.
Connor Shaw is finally ready to claim the love of his life.
He wants Lulu. He’s always wanted her. Even though she’s slightly crazy and seriously delusional about her relationship with Derek. Connor is the one that brings out her fire and matches it with his own. He’s the one that drives her just as crazy as she drives him and it’s way past time for her to admit that all their fighting is really just foreplay.
Together they’re like gasoline and a match; a powder keg destined to blow, but oh how satisfying an explosion it will be.
But is their spark the kind that burns fast and then out? Is the heat going to Lulu’s head or is there more to Connor than she’s ever realized? Could they possibly be meant for forever or are they destined to always be a should’ve been?

This book was so delightful. Lulu and Connor’s story was for me the best kind of crazy. The plot was fun and so enjoyable. A story of unrequited love that will make you cry, smile, swoon and curse the characters for not embracing what seemed so obvious. I loved Lulu and Connor. Lulu, honestly you are so clueless!! And stubborn! She came across as very relatable though in regards to her secret feelings towards her friend. She was so focused on what she thought she wanted that she couldn’t see what was right there waiting for her. Connor was just so amazing! I will give him big props because as bad as I felt for Lulu’s case of unrequited feelings, his situation was a million times worse. Being friends with both these characters, being in love with her, while she’s in love with him? So painful and certainly not an easy situation to be in. The chemistry is off the charts, the angst and drama level deep and the emotional turmoil was intense. A truly wonderful romance that gives you all the feels you can handle as you immerse yourself in this fantastic read.
LuLu has been in love with her best friend Derek since they were children. She and his other friend Conner have done nothing but fight for years. Derek is marrying the love of his life and it isn’t LuLu. She has been tasked with Best Woman duties for the destination wedding. A week in Mexico is going to test her acting skills. When she and Conner get paired up for activities the sparks fly. Will the fire burn out or will they combust?
This was my first book by Jess Bryant and a great first read. You could feel the sparks and tension between LuLu and Conner. Loved that no matter how much they would fight Conner was always honest with LuLu. Sierra was a riot and kept us entertained. Great characters that I was rooting for a HEA. Looking forward to more by this author.
I was hooked on this story from the first chapter. I could not put this book down and devoured it in one day. You can feel LuLu’s emotions pouring out of this book.
LuLu and Connor are both dealing with feelings of unrequited love. LuLu thinks she’s in love with her best friend Derek. Connor knows he is in love with LuLu. While attending Derek’s destination wedding, the circumstances help LuLu realize once and for all who has been there for her after all this time. I loved the story between Connor and LuLu, especially how he truly always put her first even though she swore they hated each other.
I 100% recommend reading this book. I think is is probably one of my favorite Jess Bryant books. It’s full of everything – swoons, love, laughs and even a couple tears.
*I received an ARC of this book*
There is something to say about a book that just gets you right in all your feels…. From page one I was hooked…Lulu and Connor were so so good
Lulu has been in love with her best friend Derek her entire life…those feelings however are very much one sided and have been the source of heartbreak for her throughout the years. So needless to say she’s a bit fragile, extremely vulnerable and in need of a bunch of drinks when she arrives in Mexico for Derek’s wedding. She’s ready to move on..she just needs to get through this week. Connor ::insert all the swoon here:: Shaw has been keeping a secret …one that he’s finally ready to reveal to Lulu; If only he can get her to see what’s been right in front of her.
These two had me all in my feelings..there was such honesty & vulnerability in Jess Bryant’s words that I cannot say enough how much I loved Lulu & Connor’s story. Should’ve Been Us is my NEW favorite from this author & I definitely recommend this read to any and everyone
***I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review***
I wish I could give Should’ve Been Us an unlimited amount of stars. This story gives you ALL the feels. Connor and Lulu are magic together even Lulu doesn’t recognize Connor as her soul mate. The feelings of unrequited love for both Lulu and Connor, the eye opening feelings once Lulu was willing to admit she didn’t really hate Connor, the emotional gut wrenching love scenes and the pure bliss once their souls were awakened and recognized their forever.
You NEED to read this book! I can’t express how much in love I am with Connor and Lulu. Oh and let’s not forget the surprise visit from some of the characters in Maren Lee’s Bounty County Series.
WOW!!! I absolutely adored this one. Sooo much. I cried. I laughed. I got seriously squirmy – Jess Bryant’s best book to date and straight into my 2019 Top Reads.
This one tells the story of Lulu who has been in love with her best friend for 20 years and now has to be Best Woman at his destination wedding – Awkward!! Having to deal with her unrequited love’s best friend Connor is the last thing she needs!
I really felt for Lulu and her unrequited love. There were moments that I got quite teary reading this one – those feelings of rejection & why not me poured from the page. She’s not a push over but she is definitely damaged by thinking she’s missed out on the love of her life. Now Connor – let’s talk about him – he’s all kinds of delicious. I freaking LOVED him. He’s the perfect blend of bossy, cheeky and dirty & if Lulu can open her eyes he just might mend her broken heart.
Lots of genuine LOL moments, some teary moments and some swoony moments made this one a perfect read for me. Definitely recommend.
I received an arc of this book.
A destination wedding is the perfect way to get back to Fate, Texas!
Lulu has been in love with Derek her whole life, but he’s marrying someone else, and Lulu’s life is never going to be the same.
Connor is Derek’s best man, and his main job is to keep Lulu from losing it and embarrassing herself sometime before the wedding.
Connor and Lulu have been fighting off and on since first grade, she can’t stand him and feels like he does nothing but pity her for the unrequited love she feels for Derek.
In reality the exact opposite is true, and after more than one period of Lulu parading herself in front of Connor in nothing more than her bra and panties, Connor can no longer hide how he feels about Lulu. He’s determined she’s going to see him finally, but what happens when Lulu’s eyes are finally opened?
A fun, sexy as all get out romp that tells the love story of Lulu and Connor combined with the fun of Sierra and Brendan from Bounty County. Thank you for giving us a sweet, HOT story between Connor and Lulu and showing us again that sometimes under all the fighting there is a love story for the ages. One of the best enemies to lovers romances of 2019!!
I’m going to start this review by saying that Connor is mine. So back off. Everyone.
I love this story. I couldn’t put it down. It’s Jess Bryant’s best work to date, in my opinion.
Lulu is the best woman at Derek’s wedding. She’s always loved him – or thought she loved him – but he never returned those feelings. So she shows up to the destination wedding a little sad, but definitely ready to cut the cord and move on. Enter Connor. The man who has always loved her. But she never saw him through her blind love for Derek. He plans on making sure she sees him.
When she does, the chemistry is off the charts. This book is sexy and sweet and a little heartbreaking. Connor is understanding and loving and super dominating in the bedroom. It was everything I was looking for. Highly recommend. Five stars. Two thumbs up. Read this book!!!
I fell into this story and didn’t want to put it down. Lulu and Con captivated me from the start. Lulu’s emotions were so strong and powerful that I truly felt everything she experienced. These two were paired during their best friends wedding, who Lulu believes she’s in love with, and Con is determined to help Lulu through the week no matter the consequences. Con is steadfast in breaking down her barriers and making her see him as the man who truly loves her and wants her.
Should’ve Been Us is one of those books that has you enraptured from the start and has you glued to the pages as the story unfolds. Connor and Lulu’s story is one that will steal your heart as you witness the discovery of a lifetime of love, hurt and shared secrets. A love story that will take you on a ride of anger, confusion, sadness and finally the enlightenment of what has always been right there. This trip with these two will have you overcome with adoration, have you feeling the heat and passion and at times smiling so big your face will ache. For some of us their was a couple of surprise characters that just added a little extra to an already beautiful book. My bags are packed and I am ready to jump on a plane and head to Fate, Texas because I just didn’t want this book to end.
Lulu has been in love with her best friend Derek since they were kids. She’s dreading this week because he’s getting married and it’s not to her .
Connor who is Derek’s other best friend has always been a jerk to Lulu. As they both struggle with a week of wedding activities they find out what they thought about how they felt was not true at all .
I felt bad for Connor at first but once Lulu got her head together I loved them as a couple . He had just
enough alpha possessiveness to make me love him without being ott.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and can’t wait to meet more characters from Fate Texas .
Wow, this was such an emotional and extremely hot and sexy book, I loved reading it! At first I thought Lulu was kind of having a pity-party for one, because the man she loved her whole life was getting married, but not to her. And then Connor happened who managed it to get her out of her “head”, he let her feel and experience his love- and how. I sure enjoyed this book and the steamy scenes even more.
This is what it’s about: Lulu Nichols has lost the love of her life as her best friend, Derek, proposed to someone else.
In the mean time: Connor Shaw is finally ready to claim the love of his life.
Could not get into the story
I have read several books by Jess Bryant so when I had the opportunity to read Should’ve Been Us I was happy to grab a copy and load it up. Unfortunately for me I did not find this story to be a stand out like the other books I have read. It had nothing to do with the writing it was just the plot details and the characters. I just could not connect with Lulu and the way she completely did a ‘180 almost overnight regarding her feelings for Connor. For me it was just overly long and did not ring true. I really hate to say that as I really like this author.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own and I know that other readers will love this story. At the end of the day that is great because that is what makes like so interesting.
Loved This Book!
I loved this book. Should’ve Been Us is another wonderful book that Author Jess Bryant has given us and I am so happy that I read it. I loved this book because it made me laugh, it was sweet, and spicy. If there was ever a sequel written with Lulu and Conner I would love to read it. I loved their HEA but I just really want more of them!

A heartbreaking moment that defines us can also be a heartwarming moment that leads us to our destiny. This book was overwhelmingly full of love. The author gave clues to her brilliance as the story began to build momentum. I fell in love with the main character whose actions and reactions were written perfectly. Her savior was equally brilliantly written. I can’t say the same for her best friend who I didn’t have a problem with until the ending. How awful was that conversation? So I found myself loving this book because I was engaged in her finding her happiness regardless where that might be. Recommend
This is the first book by this Author that I have read it is well written and Held my interest until the end. Lulu Nichols thinks that her best friend Derek should have wanted to marry her instead he is marrying another. The wedding party comes to Mexico for the wedding her partner turns out to be Connor Shaw who has loved her for years. Will they get their happy ending or will a misunderstanding tear them apart? I enjoyed reading this book the story flows smoothly from page to page. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
