Do not start this book unless you are prepared to lose sleep! Shot on Goal deals with unique, yet realistic issues that haunt both the hero and heroine. Different worlds, different sports, different life-changing events that each character brings to a forbidden, yet irresistible relationship. Truly did not see the ending coming, but definitely look forward to seeing more of Drew and Marina in the future! You can read this as a stand-alone, even though it’s part of a series.
Most men would love to be where Drew Delacorte is at in his life, playing his best hockey, part of an amazing NHL team with a long career ahead of him, and partaking in all the added comforts his career brings him, but somewhere along the way Drew has lost himself in the dream. At one point and time he loved being on the ice, going head to head with competitors for the puck, but now when he’s on the ice it doesn’t feel the same way it once did, now it feels more like another expectation to keep up for his parents. He is supposed to be carrying on the family name in the hockey world, but how is he supposed to do that when he is this lost his zest for the game?
Then one day when everything finally comes to a head, Drew heads to the rink before the team arrives for some thinking time and skating, being one with the ice has always brought him peace, and he is hoping it will do the trick now. But shortly after he arrives he realizes he is not the only one looking for some uninterrupted skate time, as soon as his eyes land on the beautiful girl skating he can’t help but be taken with her, she brings a tranquility to the ice that leaves him in awe and a little envious. Neither one of them wants to give up their alone time on the ice, so they come to an agreement of sorts, they will share it, but before long that is not the only thing they begin to share… their heartbreaking pasts unite them, and soon the sparks start to fly! But an in-pass is on the horizon…
Shot on Goal captured my attention right from the start and had me flying right through the pages, with a dire need to know more, which inevitability had me staying up well past my bedtime just to get my fix, and boy was it worth it! The chemistry between Drew and Marina was off the charts and their sneaky little encounters on the ice, and off, had me swooning nonstop! I really loved this pairing, they both had competitive spirits, and it was fun to watch them go head to head, and bring out the best in one another, and bring out some serious sizzle here and there too! If you like sports romance stories, then I highly suggest you check this one out, within it’s pages you will find a heartfelt story line riddled with drama, passion, raw emotion, and of course the good stuff… heat!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
Marina and Drew were truly like fire and ice. Going from one extreme to the next while they tried avoid the inevitable. The story was full of emotion, passion, self-discovery, setting boundaries, and family. I enjoyed watching their relationship grow and change as well as watching them both find their own confidence in their decisions. A great addition to the series!
I love the Game On Series and Drew Delacort’s character is definitely a testament as to why this series is so special.
Drew’s heart is not really into hockey. He is one of the top players on the Sockeyes, who are having a great year and making a playoff run, however, he personally is not finding enjoyment in playing anymore and not really playing for himself either. He truly is a sweet man who carries some heavy weight around; specifically the death of his brother and a father who is a former NHL star who pushes relentlessly for him to be like him and his dead brother. Something he has lost his passion for.
Enter Marina Sanders. The team hires her as a skating coach. She was a prominent figure skater a few years back but because of some poor choices and bad decisions she fell from grace. The Sockeye’s are hoping she will breathe new life into the team. Well she certainly breathes new life and passion into Drew and vice versa!! They have amazing chemistry but because of her past and the fact that players and coaches are not supposed to fraternize, they try to stay away from each other except for in a professional capacity. That doesn’t work for too long because they are drawn to each other.
I love Drew and Marina together and I think they are perfect for each other. They both have goals though that will not necessarily work in their favor. Will the team finally grasp the elusive Stanley Cup? Will Drew and Marina be able to figure out away to align their goals and lives to grasp the elusive happily ever after they both deserve so much?
This is such an awesome story and I really felt so happy and content at the end.
Jami Davenport lights the lamp with SHOT ON GOAL, the eleventh book in the Game On in Seattle series. Hockey star Drew Delacorte and former Olympic figure skater Marina Sanders are broken souls. This is their story about what caused their troubles and what is in store for their future. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult audiences.
I adore Drew and Marina. They have a complicated past. They are both broken and get what the other is going through. They are both very human. They have made mistakes and must live with the consequences.
I appreciated that Marina was given an opportunity with the Sockeyes. She is a tough individual with a lot of talent. Drew and his parents are living with the ghost of Drew’s dead brother David. Drew is being smothered by his parents and no longer enjoys life until Marina makes him smile again.
I like that the story was realistic. The characters face a lot of difficult decisions and make hard choices. Things don’t always turn out how they want. This novel is an excellent example of how one mistake can impact your life. Unexpected things happen. I like how the story was resolved. Furthermore, I love that the Sockeye’s make it to the Stanley Cup Finals. There are some great hockey scenes. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
When reading Jami Davenport’s Sockeye Series you can’t help thinking that this team is real and you can’t help feel you want to see this team reach the pinnacle of success.
Drew Delacorte is a player with The Sockeyes not feeling like a man on the brink of playing on a team that can win the Cup. He is a man at a crossroads playing not for himself but for his overbearing parents and his deceased brother but when the team hires a disgraced former figure skater to there staff he can’t help feel that Marina Sanders can be his cure for it all.
Marina Sanders a disgraced Olympic Figure Skating champion has come back to the states with the hope of correcting her wrongs and moving forward with her life given the opportunity to work for the Sockeyes is her first step. Meeting Drew Delacorte wasn’t suppose to happen but he has and it makes things complicated in a good kind of way.
Drew & Marina can’t help feeling the feelings they have the chemistry is off the charts whenever they are near each other but can they overcome all the obstacles to be together or do they go there separate ways. All you hope as you turn each page that these two people can find a way to get not only what they want out of their careers but also to find that HEA.
She’s a disgraced Olympic medalist fighting for any career in figure skating. He’s a talented hockey player, but doesn’t love the game as much as he should. Both were at the top of their games when one career was ruined by scandal and the other’s was being torn apart by his father’s manipulations and guilt trips.
Marina and Drew may come from opposite sides of the ice but when they get together, things get hot enough to combust. Will their fire meld their souls back together and heal them both or will it cause both of their futures to go up in flames?
I really enjoyed how different Marina and Drew were in some ways and then so in tune in others. Both had amazing talent in their respective sports. Drew is willing to let his chance go because he’s not in love with playing hockey. Marina would do anything to get her career back because she loves skating and competing more than anything else. Yet, they fit together so well. Both have baggage concerning their pasts and both have suffered the loss of someone close to them that still affects them. They are so drawn to one another, but both know their being together jeopardizes their future.
I loved that this book was about second chances. Not at a relationship, but at finding what makes you happy in life. Yes, this couple was hot hot hot, but they were amazing friends, both willing to sacrifice their chance at love so the other could achieve their goals and dreams to be happy in the life they are leading.
Hockey fans will love the build up of following the Sockeyes on their quest for the cup and romantics will adore Drew and Marina together. 4 stars
This was an easy-to-read book that just kept you reading.
I enjoyed the background of Marina and Drew. I loved that they were both skaters, just different types.
I really could have done without Drew’s dad; did not like him at all. Can’t believe that any mother would act like Cassandra did though.
Loved all of the epilogues from the different viewpoints.
I voluntarily read and ARC.
5 STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review
I loved every second of Marina and Drew’s story. These two where explosive on and off the ice. I’ve read several of Jamie Davenport’s stories and I’ve missed a few here and there, but I had no problem following along.
It’s hard to move on from scandal, but I think Marina handles it well. While she may not be perfect her fall from grace even hard, she worked and overcame. I loved that about her. Drew is just ready to throw in the towel and move on. But once meeting Marina he finds his passion again.
I love a great hockey story and this is just that. Please check out this great story.
A Road Well Worth Reading!
I think that this is my favorite story my Ms. Davenport to date. The story of how Drew and Marina find their way to each other is a tough one. Each character has their flaws and there is no easy route to them being together and I think that is what I liked about it the most. No one is without flaws and problems in the real world and seeing these two work things thru made them seem more like real people rather than just two characters in a story. Drew is not sure what he wants in his future and Marina knows what she wants but doesn’t think she can ever achieve it. They have both made mistakes in their lives and have to learn to forgive themselves before they can open up to other people. It’s not a clear path for either of them and the wonderfully written story makes the trip well worth the read. You also get to see other characters you have come to know, and others you can’t wait to get to know better. Ms. Davenport excels in storytelling, especially in the world of sports and families and how they all come together. I can’t wait to see what new stories she has to share with us in the future.
4 pucks
I enjoyed the majority of this book, Drew and Marina were easy to fall in love with. This story was full of action and emotion, and definitely kept me on my toes.
I was pleasantly surprised with the way the book played out for these two and I’m very glad I had the opportunity to read this book.
*ARC received in exchange for an honest review*
Drew is loosing himself in hockey. Mirana is a disgraced figure skater. These characters are learning to find themselves. The trials they must overcome. I found myself ugly crying at one point and I could not put the book down.
Drew and Marina’s story is a GWG for sure. Loved how they worked, separately and together, to find their happiness. An entertaining read that left me smiling.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
Being the best does not mean that you lose yourself in the shuffle. It means staying true to the person you are, not the person others want you to be. Davenport lays it all on the line with Shot on Goal. In the midst of the bright lights of fame and the expectations of others, Marina and Drew just want to be happy. At their lowest, through identity crisis and the scandal of the spotlight, each has to tackle painful truths. Is this the life they really want or could there be something more fulfilling waiting on the horizon? Shot on Goal is an experience in soul searching. It’s painful, insightful and uplifting. Realistic entertainment.
3.5 star read for me.
I normally enjoy Jami Davenport’s books and characters. This one left me wanting.
I found Drew and Marina too immature for my taste and their lack of professionalism when she, in particular, had already ruined one career on impulsive behavior left a lot to be desired.
It is always a joy to be back with the Seattle Sockeyes and the guys we’ve come to know and like or love. This one just didn’t resonate with me.
I voluntarily requested and reviewed an advance reader copy.
Holy Amazeballs!!! What a flippin amazing book!!! I love the Sockeyes Series, but I think this one just shot to the TOP of my favorite list. Such a wonderful story of coming back from the bottom of the hole. Full of emotions that bring you joy, happiness, sadness and fear. Wonderful characters, Marina was the best match for Drew, they helped each other get through the tough time of feeling like nothing in life was worth it. Brought each other back to loving the lives they lived.
5 Amazing Hockey Pucks!!
Two people who couldn’t have more in common than Drew and Marina. Both lost more than people in their lives, they lost themselves. What a better way to help each oether to find that part again than through each other and hockey!
This story just gave me a great case of the feels!
Delectably irresistible! With the highly sought after return of the Seattle Sockeyes hockey team, Jami Davenport captivates her audience with a wounded hero sure to snag their hearts! Drew is at the end of his rope and fading fast, but the love of a woman just might be the nudge he needs to start living for himself again. The characters each have a riveting back story that quickly nabs the reader’s attention, and the sports fans in the crowd will be pulling for the Sockeyes to make the most of their Stanley Cup Final appearance! Really great story with just the right mix of romance, sports and emotions to leave this reader smiling!
Figure skater Marina Sanders was once America’s sweetheart, winning a bronze medal as a teen mere days after both of her parents were killed in a car accident. She unfortunately didn’t hold up for long under the pressure of having her support system gone and made a few bad decisions that led to her downfall. Now a few years have passed and she’s returning to the US in hopes of rebuilding her life again. What are the odds that before she even starts her new job, she’ll run into a touch of her past?
Hockey star Drew Delacorte has gained the moniker of best young player in the league, been touted the future of the Seattle Sockeyes hockey organization … yet he feels nothing when he plays anymore. He’s going through the motions and feeling more dread every day that he laces up his skates. Being the built-in successor to the hockey empire once held by his father has gotten old really fast, as has his father’s constant critiquing and criticism. He’s really starting to wonder if he ever enjoyed playing the game at all at this point. Will meeting Marina and getting a fresh take on a skating passion revitalize his attitude, or will the additional stress of having her in his life be the final nail he needs?
Wow what a book. I have read all of this authors sports Romance books and this is absolutely my favorite. It has the right amount of actions, drama and romance. The characters are superb. I sense spin off series from this book. If I remember right the PI business was mentioned previously. Jami has an incredible skill when it comes to intertwining characters of different backgrounds and different phases in life. The characters Drew and Marina are beautiful characters looking for a direction in which to follow. Jami’s style of writing makes you see and feel these characters.
I truly loved this series… It was a long process to get to know all of the characters, but I really did love these two. Drew was much more than he’d Ever seemed to be. Marina had a huge set of obstacles to tackle to determine where she needed to be. These two were messed up from the beginning. Could they make the right side for them? Could they overcome everything to be happy?
I voluntarily reviewed this book from the author. I would read every book in this series again and again. It’s definitely worth the read.
