When mystery shopper Shannon Jacoby meets billionaire Declan McCormick with her hand down a toilet in the men’s room of one of his stores, it’s love at first flush in this hilarious new romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Julia Kent.
This book had lots of laugh-out-loud humour with a unique story line.
Throw in a handsome billionaire with steamy looks and bod to match and what you get is some real hands on action.
5 stars if read in full story form of parts 1-5.
5 stars
I purchased 2 parts of this book and received a free copy of the complete novel b Shopping for a Billionaire Boxset parts 1-5: Shannon and Declan part 1 by Julia Kent and this review was given freely.
I can’t remember when I laughed so often or so hard. Vivid over the top descriptions and pithy humor mix with a whole lot of Murphy’s Law, an unfiltered family. outspoken friends and some touching scenes. Twenty four year old Secret Shopper and Consolidated Evalu-shop, Incorporated’s Marketing Coordinator Shannon Jacoby has an embarrassing but memorable first meeting with billionaire heir and VP of Anterdec Industries ,Declan McCormick while rating the men’s room of one of his coffee and Bagel shops. Contains a sad and seriousness undertone in the form of anaphylactic bee and wasp sting allergies.
4 stars
I purchased a copy of the short steamy novel Christmas Shopping for a Billionaire :Shopping for a Billionaire book 5 Shannon and Declan part 2 and received a free copy in the Shopping for the Billionaire boxset 1-5 by Julia Kent and this review was given freely.
Short and steamy with multiple wardrobe malfunctions, a stereotypical self absorbed tyrannical mother, the body issues that can occur when young children wait in line for Santa, and Shannon’s unfiltered no boundaries observed family and friends all are entwined in this romantic comedy featuring Shannon and Declan helping Greg out in the mall’s Winter Wonderland on Christmas Eve.
Novella not a book
Not standalones… book 1 morphs into book 2 and so on. Lighthearted, fun and hilarious. This group of characters/families are definitely not boring, the storytelling sometimes leans a little ADHD with all that’s going on, glad my mind works that way too!
Shannon the protagonist is being courted by a Billionaire. Courted is a British word for dating that implies a sense of chivalry, romance, and the essential perks of luxurious dates. Shannon is a mystery shopper, work she finds fun and admirable. She takes her mom and sister on shops like for lunch or the spa. The company she works for reimburses her for expenses except gas for her rundown car. The shops aren’t always pretty or fun. Occasionally, a client will assign a behavioral shop whereby Shannon needs to evaluate Customer Service and the staff rather than a product placement or trying out the next taco joint.
Her family is eccentric – wild estrogen of four women in one room! Shannon has her own apartment but the family gatherings of gossip and gal time most often occur in the kitchen or Shannon’s bedroom. Boundaries begone.
Steve is the ex-boyfriend and Declan is the scrumptious angel food cake with strawberries sweet and manly. Declan is a billionaire client who she does not know yet at work. Shannon met Declan for the first time in the bathroom crazed over dropping her phone in the toilet while attempting to pee and communicate with a friend over dating advice. Shannon was on a mystery shopping assignment. She got flustered by seeing her ex and everything went haywire. So Declan finds her in the men’s bathroom and what appeared to be gross actually read like an awkward way to meet a guy.
Comedic parallels of how life does not always go your way. How dating and love suck. And you have to keep getting back up to be happy again.
If at this point you read the first book and are not sure if you like Julia Kent, I encourage you to move on to a different book series by the same author. Shopping for a Billionaire series might not particularly feel natural to what you like. You may not like the Shannon’s character, being insecure when it comes to men, and not at ease to stand up to her family but her whimsical positive outlook makes for a fun relatable character especially if you have a sister.
I’ve read books past this first book and Shannon is surely a learning curve for the author.
Imagine you, the reader learning a skill and doing it for the first time, nothing will be perfect so give this book and author a chance! Thank you.
I read this first book on Google Play. Additional books and a boxed set Shopping for a Billionaire on Amazon Kindle because the price was better than Google at the time.
Laugh out loud funny! But beware- it ends on a cliffhanger!
Shopping for a Billionaire #1 by Julia Kent is a contemporary, romantic comedy serial told in first person, single POV. As part one in a four-part serial, it does not contain a full story and it ends with a cliffhanger of sorts.
The story was light and fun with some humorous moments. The witty banter and comedic situations made for an entertaining read. I’m not a fan of serials and probably wouldn’t have completed the story if I hadn’t received the first two parts for free. I purchased parts three and four for $2.99 each. So all together, I got the complete story, books 1-4, 650 pages total, for $5.98.
I was interested enough to read all four parts to find out how it ended but didn’t see the need to spread it out over four books. I feel the story would have been better served as a two-part duet. Overall, I’d give the series (books 1-4) three stars.
Great read!
This book, and the series so far, is fantastic!! The characters, especially Shannon, are so fun to read and literally make me laugh out loud! The dialogue between Shannon and her family is so relatable and truly hysterical!! I am in love with this series! It’s a must read!!
I’d give this one a billion gold stars!!
If you’re looking for a romance with snappy dialogue, witty characters and love billionaires, then you can’t go wrong reading this one!
Julia Kent is a read I always return to. Amazingly funny and compelling at the same time.
I just loved these characters
How do you find a billionaire to date? In the men’s room! Shannon is a mystery shopper and lands her hand in the toilet to retrieve her phone when she meets Declan! Fun story! Julia Kent writes a fun story!
I laughed so hard and so long my spouse had to check on me to make sure I was okay. And when I read a couple of passages to him, then he was laughing, too. Ms. Kent’s “way with words” is refreshing and funny and very engaging.
Who knew secret shopping could be so entertaining…
I haven’t read this in years but I remeber it as hilarious and my re-read reinforced that! Shannon and Declan meet in a men’s room…toilet water may be involved. Between her job, friends, family, and ex…there are plenty of funny moments. Plus she & Declan have sizzling chemistry!
This is a laugh-out-loud, fast paced, tightly written book. Anyone who has experienced “I can’t believe that happened” moments in their life will definitely identify with the main character. Couldn’t read fast enough, and when I came to the end, knew without a doubt I was going to purchase more of Julia Kent’s books.
Must be the first in a string of “shortie” books. This 1 day story doesn’t go much of anywhere. Save the two hours to get into a good book instead.
So much fun to read!
I’m working my way through the series & really enjoying it!
One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE series!! These are truly funny!! Filled with laughter and tears!! Love, love, love these books!!
