Kensey Lyons has never had ‘normal’. Instead, she has a mother who lives in her head, a stepfather who’s on death row, and the stigma that comes with being the child of an extramarital affair. Writing has always been her escape. Knowing the reception her books receive will be tainted by her personal life, Kensey secretly writes under a penname when she’s not working part-time at her godmother’s … godmother’s bar. Her world might not be exciting, but she likes it exactly as it is.
When she meets alarmingly compelling businessman Blake Mercier, the snap of attraction is instant. She doesn’t like it. Doesn’t want to be drawn to this man who is blatantly dangerous, carries dark secrets, and lives life by his own rules. Neither of them make a great first impression on the other, so she’s more than surprised when he begins to pursue her with a single-minded focus that is unsettling, thrilling, and infuriating. Her gut tells her to keep her distance, but Blake won’t let her run. Won’t give her space.
There’s another person who won’t give her space. Someone who has discovered the secret of her penname and who seems intent on taunting her. And as Kensey struggles to identify her persecutor, Blake is by her side, determined to keep her safe … because Blake Mercier always holds tight to what’s his. Always.

The first time I read this book it hooked me from the beginning, and the second, I just knew it’d become part of my re-read collection. Suzanne nails it time and time again! What a female lead, what an alpha male and her side characters are amazing. If you haven’t read it already, I would definitely suggest adding it to your TBR list
Shiver was a great story. Suspenseful with a kickass heroine. Wonderful plot. Over the top alpha possessive H, which I absolutely loved.
I love this author. Love the fact that she mostly writes PNR, which is my got to genre, but she can write a great contemporary suspenseful romance.
Now what didn’t I like about this book, is the fact that the book was clearly based in America, Florida to be specific.
The writer is from England and it showed in this book. Normally you can’t tell through the book. There were clear english references bleeding through the dialogue.
I don’t care if the writer is from Timbuktu if the characters are born and raised in America or wherever please use the dialogue from said country.

I can not believe I did not read this book until now because it was amazing!! I loved Kensey and Blake so much. To be honest, it took me awhile to truly love Blake in the beginning. I am not much of a fan of the “no-strings attached” arrangements, but something about Blake kept me wanting to know more about him. He was definitely the OTT, possessive and protective, alpha that I love, but you can also see he has a past that haunts him. Kensey was an amazing heroine. She had a heart-breaking upbringing, but remained so strong. Her mother had married a convicted serial killer while he was in prison so the bullying and attitude toward Kensey was constant. This has caused her to build a wall around herself.
The first meet between Kensey and Blake was not the best, but they both felt the strong and combustible attraction. Kensey was not so forgiving but Blake was determined to have her. The lengths that Blake goes to to convince Kensey to give them a chance was off the charts hot. Blake definitely has a way with words! There were so many extreme obstacles, internal and external, against them but the chemistry, connection and eventual love between them was too strong to keep them apart.
There were also so many fascinating twists and turns in this story that it kept me glued to my kindle. The suspense of who the “bad guys” were definitely kept me on pins and needles. This was a phenomenal read and I highly recommend it.

I think I would have loved this story if not for the similarities between this story and the Dark in You Series. Although in a different world Blake sounded like Knox and MacKenzie has much in common with Harper.
