She wants to bang a werewolf, not become one.Sophie Burroughs is determined to be a witch. Her grandmother was a witch. All the other supes say she smells like a witch, but she can’t cast a spell to save her life.Sprouting fur is so not on her to-do list. But when a smokin’ hot werewolf bites her and then accuses her of crimes against his pack, she has until the next full moon to prove him wrong … until the next full moon to prove him wrong and stop his magic from transforming her into a wolf.
A romp in the sack would be a nice bonus, too.
Trace Thibodeaux didn’t mean to bite Sophie. The red wolves have been cursed, she’s the prime suspect, and if he wants to keep his rank in the pack, he has to end her magic by any means necessary.
But that doesn’t include sheathing his sword in a witch’s scabbard.
He’s gotten into bed with the enemy before, and that’s a mistake he’ll never make again.
Or will he?
If you like funny heroines and smoldering shifters, you’ll love this steamy paranormal romantic comedy.

This story follows Sophie, Jane’s friend, from License to Bite. It reads as a complete standalone, but if you love connecting stories, totally read the first book first. Sophie and Trace were cute together and I loved their story. There’s laughter, romance and magic abound all tangled up in a short and sweet mystery. I’m loving these stories as they are such comfort reads to me. I highly recommend this series.
Shift Happens is the second book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Final Rating: 5 Stars
This werewolf shifter book is # 2 in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. Trace and with descendant Sophie have an instant attraction that is unstoppable. Unfortunately complicated by an accidental bite and a spell gone awry, Trace has been sent to investigate Sophie’s role and to head off a war between the werewolves and the witches. Their attraction to each other is intense. There is plenty of humor as many mystical beings come together to find solutions. I found this book very amusing and I really enjoyed it.
This is such a cute story. Sophie wants to be like her grandmother, a witch, so bad. Her magic just isn’t there. We met Sophie in License to Bite. She wanted a werewolf all her own and instead got a werewolf bite. Trace’s pack is searching for the witch that has cursed their pack making them lose control of their animals and is sure it’s Sophie. When another episode hits and he loses control of his wolf, Sophie gets more than she wanted from her wolf. Each one of these books is such fun to read. I laughed through the whole thing. If you like a light, funny read and paranormal characters you can’t go wrong with this book. This whole series will have you laughing the whole way. I requested an advanced reader copy and am under no obligation to leave this review.
Sophie Burroughs moved to New Orleans to be near her best friend, Jane, who was recently turned into a vampire. Sophie’s grandmother was a witch, and, all of her life, Sophie has also wanted to be one. But she has no magic despite smelling like a witch according to the supes she knows. While at a party, Sophie was accidentally bitten by a werewolf and now has until the next full moon to figure out how to stop the transformation.
Trace Thibodeaux is the werewolf who bit Sophie and he feels bad but he can’t do anything about it right now. Trace is on a mission. His best friend is missing and the red wolf pack is being forced to shift. Trace needs to find the witch responsible before there’s a war and he thinks that Sophie’s his gal.
I really enjoyed this book which flowed seamlessly from the first one. This book’s well-written with well-developed characters whom you’ll getting to know. I loved the various relationships and the chemistry between Sophie and Trace. I was hooked from the beginning and kept entranced until the end. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.
Sophie is a witch, or so she’s been told. But of course, it’s just her luck she can’t perform the usual witch-like duties such as cast spells. However, after seeking help to figure out how to release her powers, she knows what she has to do. She has to find a werewolf and goes on the hunt. What she ends up with though is a bite…..
Trace is living with the fact his friend has disappeared as well as the fact his pack seems to be cursed. He searches for the witch that he suspects is behind it all. If he can find her and force her to reverse the spell, all can be better. What he gets though is something totally different….
They’re fated to cross paths but for reasons, they didn’t suspect. I laughed so hard through the book and loved the sass that is thrown about. I thought it was awesome how the powerful connections were shown not only between the two of them but their families. Overall its a funny, sassy, steamy read!
Shift Happens is the 2nd book in the New Orleans Nocturnes saga by Carrie Pulkinen. This romantic comedy is a fantastic read. At the end of book 1 Sophie is bitten by what she thinks is a big dog, for the professional dog walker this is a new experience for her as animals normally love her. Elsewhere in the French Quarter the werewolf pack are convinced that a witch is out to get them, they have lost one of their own and they are unable to control their shifts. As Sophie smells like a witch, and she is unregistered with the local coven, they immediately think it is her. Queue the giant handsome werewolf detective, Trace is determined to find the culprit and his friend no matter what it takes even if includes an unauthorised biting. I really enjoyed this novel, its fun and fast paced and I love the way that the author is linking them together. Looking forward to starting book 3.
Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 2) by Carrie Pulkinen
Stars-4
This was a wonderful addition to this series. I loved the humor and romance that Carrie Pulkinen writes! Sophie and Trace were great together. They had great chemistry and banter. This story could be read as a standalone, but I think that it would be best read in order. Also, I am very excited for the third story!
The second installment in the New Orleans trilogy is amazing! Following from the end of events of the first book, the story follows Sophie who is a witch and her seriously hunky werewolf Trace. The plot is incredibly well written, well paced and the world is vivid in its description. The characters are witty, funny, sweet, romantic and steamy. The interactions between all the characters, though especially Sophie and Trace are amazing. This has been expertly written and I can’t wait to read the next one. This is definitely at the top of my paranormal romance favourites!
Shift Happens is the second book in Carrie Pulkinen’s New Orleans Nocturnes series. I couldn’t wait to read this book after reading the first in the series and I wasn’t disappointed. You will find yourself fall in love with the heroine of this story Sophie. She’s part of a witch line but is having troubling accessing her powers. To add to that stress, she is bitten by a wolf and then is accused of crimes against the wolfs pack. Then you have Trace the hot alpha type wolf who bit Sophie, he’s just trying to find out who cursed his pack. Will Sophie clear her name before the next full moon? Can they keep their hands to themselves even with the attraction? I loved this book and can genuinely say I was laughing out loud quite a bit, just an amazing book. You wont be disappointed in this book!
Sophie Burroughs is a tough as nails dog walker. She built her dog walking business in Texas then moved to the Big Easy with her best friend. She came there trying to find her witchiness, but unfortunately her powers didn’t seem to want to work. Enter the hotter than hades shifter, Trace, and the sparks begin to fly. Her life takes a big turn, thanks to Trace, but is it as bad as she wanted to believe? If you want a fun read, with lots of steam and sexiness, then this is the book for you. I loved the whole story and the characters are great.
This is book 2 in the New Orleans Nocturnes series, Make sure to read that one first!!
This book was just as hilarious at the first and i finished it just as fast! This could honestly be it’s own book, but it fits perfectly with it’s successor! I absolutely adore this series and can’t wait to get my hands on the next book! I look forward to seeing where Sophie’s story continues! Definitely worth the read!
Shift Happens is book two of the New Orleans Nocturnes. It can definitely be read as a stand alone story, but in my opinion it’s more enjoyable if you have read book one. I like the familiarity of knowing the characters and already having the scene set for me.
Book two follows Sophie. Sophie is desperate to release her inner witch. It runs in her family, and she’s been told more than once that she has the power too.
By day Sophie is a dog walker, she loves animals and she daydreams about having a hunky werewolf boyfriend. What she didn’t dream about was being bitten by one and then accused of crimes she didn’t commit.
Wolf shifter Trace bites Sophie, she’s the main suspect when a member of his pack goes missing and he needs to keep tabs on her.
The chemistry between Sophie and Trace grows, and when they finally hook up it’s all pretty hot! But they still have a mystery to solve and a pack member to hunt down.
Shift Happens is a funny, steamy, paranormal romance. It’s much more light hearted than similar stories in this genre making it an enjoyable and easy read.
Shift Happens: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy is the second book in the New Orleans Nocturnes series by Carrie Pulkinen. Sophie Burroughs desperately wants to be a witch like her grandmother was. She tries so hard to cast spells but just can’t. Sophie jokes with her friend that maybe she should try a spell naked, which I found hilarious. All other supes swears she smells like a witch, but it just doesn’t seem to be happening for her. When Trace Thibodeaux, a werewolf, bites Sophie she has to prove her innocence against his pack to save herself from becoming a werewolf. Trace is trying to prove that Sophie is the one who cursed his pack, but romance starts to get in the way. This book was full of humor and romance, just the perfect blend to make a wonderful story.
Carrie Pulkinen has done it again! I thought Book one in the New Orleans Nocturnes Licence to Bite was a brilliant book, but Shift Happens, well… I really really enjoyed this one!
While these books can be read as stand-alone but believe me when I say that would be a huge mistake!
This book is brilliant from the very beginning, it has humour, romance, sexiness, werewolves, magic & witches. It has drama, action, passion & mystery! Seriously there are too many good things to say about this book without having to tell you the whole captivating story and giving it all away!
I loved that we were transported into this world of New Orleans, I felt like I was learning along with Sophie about the paranormal world she finds herself in. I loved that Jane was still a major part of Sophie’s life even after what has gone on with her life, but both of them still make sure they are there for each other!
Now Sophie’s chemistry with Trace is beyond a doubt undeniable from the very beginning and I loved watching it grow, even when everything could be put on the line for Trace he still continued to follow his heart and with that, it helped Sophie make probably the biggest decision of her life! These characters were real (even for being supernatural) they had real and raw emotions and knew what they wanted and wasn’t afraid to go after it!
I can’t wait to see how their story continues but after meeting Crimson in this read I also can’t wait to follow her story.
I highly recommend this read and Book #1 you will definitely not regret it!
This is book 2 in the New Orleans Nocturnes series. This follows Janes best friend Sophie.
Sophie is a witch, or so she is lead to believe however she has no magical powers. One night at a party she is bite by what she thinks is a dog. However things arent as they seem.
Trace is part of a werewolf pack and he has been given the task to find the witch responsible for his missing pack member and for causing the rest of the pack to shift at random moments.
All evidence points to a unregistered witch and that leads him to Sophie. However things get complicated not only by the fact he bit her but also by the fact of their strong connection.
Can they work together to solve this mystery? Can they be together or will accusations force them apart.
Its a great adventure from the first page.
Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 2) by Carrie Pulkinen
4 of 5 Stars
Another fun paranormal romantic comedy in Carrie Pulkinen’s ‘New Orleans Nocturnes’ series. It can be read as a standalone story although some of the characters are mentioned in previous books. The blurb states, “If you like funny heroines and smoldering shifters, you’ll love this fast, steamy romantic comedy” and I was not disappointed as that is exactly what I got. Sophie Burroughs is determined to be a witch like her Grandmother was but cannot actually cast a spell. What she didn’t want was to become a werewolf but having been bitten by a very handsome one she has until the next full moon to stop becoming one herself. To make things more complicated the sexy werewolf who bit her is also accusing her of crimes against his pack which she also has until the full moon to prove she’s innocent of the crime. Meanwhile Werewolf Trace Thibodeaux didn’t mean to bite Sophie but she is the prime suspect for putting a curse on his pack. He is determined to stop the curse and the witch who cast the spell, but didn’t factor in the sassy witch who he’s bitten and the steamy chemistry between them, but can he literally get into bed with the enemy. This novel has a very funny romantic storyline which flows nicely and has some fascinating characters and lots of steamy chemistry between the main characters Sophie and Trace. I look forward to book three in the series.
Carrie Pulkinen has another winner with Shift Happens. It was a fun romp throughout the book. Watching Sophia realize her potential as a witch and find love with a werewolf was great. Carrie Pulkinen has created a vibrant universe with this series and I for one enjoyed my time in it. This book was funny and suspenseful, it kept my attention. I look forward to exploring more books from Carrie Pulkinen and this series in particular.
Shift Happens ( New Orleans Nocturnes #2) by Carrie Pulkinen
4 Stars!!!!
This was just another great journey into the supernatural world of New Orleans. I was warped into the adventure and I just could not put this book down. I really like how the books just really flow from one to the other and continue the story seamlessly.
The electrifying chemistry between Sophie and Trace is just so addicting. I just love how there is an air of forbidden but then as the saying goes truth will out and all things fall into place. I love how the characters really come to life and how I felt as though I was there in the story. I really related to Sophie as we are all searching for a place to belong and fit in. I really cannot wait to read more from this author and series as one of my absolute favourite genres is supernatural romance.
I give Shift Happens (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 2) by Carrie Pulkinen, 5 stars.
What I like so much about this series is it’s unpredictability. Sure it’s a paranormal romance with humor and some suspense involved and there has been plenty fof that. But the author throws in things that you don’t see in this genre and makes you stop and think. This is exciting to me. Not to mention how good the book is in and of itself. The characters are well done and you really feel for each of them. You root for them the whole time. You think the story is headed in one direction, but then it makes a quick left and you are stunned, but have to see where it leads.
It is fun, quirky, and sexy all in one. If you like your paranormal romance with fun, sexiness and hot characters, this book is for you. It can be read as a standalone in my opinion, but I recommend book one too since it is so good.

5-Stars
Shift Happens: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 2) by Carrie Pulkinen was a romantic and fun read. I didn’t plan on finishing this book in one sitting but it happened. I literally couldn’t stop reading. I was caught up in everything going on with Trace and Sophie. This was a great romantic comedy with an occasional steamy scene. I loved the characters and how the different supernatural beings interacted. This is easily becoming my favorite series by this author. I can’t wait to read what comes next.
